Tuesday sock talk

izzy oct28 Tuesday sock talk

Izzy’s ready for some sock talk!

I’m currently working on two pairs of socks — one in Regia Ringel, one in Regia Stretch, both sock weight yarns. Here’s a photo of the two of them:

The Regia Stretch is on the left, the regular Regia on the right. This is the first time I’ve used the Regia Stretch.

So how do they differ?

I’m knitting both using US size 0 (2mm) needles and the Stretch is a little finer — I’m getting almost 9 stitches to the inch. On the same needles with the regular Regia it’s closer to 8 stitches to the inch. The Stretch has a silkier feeling to it, rather than the more wooly feel of the regular Regia. It’s not unpleasant — as a matter of fact, I rather like it. It’ll work up into a slightly thinner sock.

And of course stretchier.

That’s about it for exciting knitting news. Busy busy day at work yesterday and more than likely another busy one today.

Thanks for all the nice things y’all said about Valtos. Glad you like it!

Oh, one more thing. I have been told by my source that the Fudgie the Whale and the Santa Claus ice cream cake are one and the same. I’m told that they turn the tail up on top to make a hat and simply decorate it differently.

Does anyone else feel as used as I do?

Comments

  1. Wendy, thanks for explaining how the two Regia yarns knit up for you. It would be interesting to see which yarn wears better. Izzy might even have a few thoughts ;-)

  2. I have heard that about Fudgie! BTW, I did not mention yesterday that Valtos is beautiful. Thanks for the Regia comparison. I have been meaning to check the stretch yarn out. Have a good day.

  3. Ruby, I’m sure Izzy has an opinion on it — she has an opinion on everything!

  4. Good to hear you like the Regia Stretch. I really want to try it now so my socks will cling a little more.

  5. Lindsey-Brooke says:

The Valtos looks great on you,Wendy! I like the stitch definition of the Hebridean yarn. I’ve got such a backlog of sock knitting that I only take quick glances at your socks for fear of succombing to a major Regia purchase, but I love your color choices! Looking forward to following your Fulmar knitting!

  6. I don’t think I posted it yesterday, but I love the Valtos, too. While you are knitting Fulmar, I plan on knitting Kinsale. What color number is the Regia Stretch? I like the color a lot.

  7. Ah, a question I can answer! The Regia Stretch color is 85. I think — the print on the labelis over-inked so it could say 65. My photo is decptive btw — the color is lighter in real life. I’ll try to get a more accurate photo to post.
