Off With Their Heads!

Those of you who have seen me in person may have noticed my obscenely long fingernails. I let them grow about 8 years ago and have kept them long ever since then. Mainly because I’m too lazy to file ‘em down. They are very strong and rarely break.

However, they have gotten on my last available nerve. I can’t type decently. I can’t button buttons. I can knit, but that’s about the only thing I can do.

So last night I chopped those bad boys off. All off. I can feel my fingertips again. Wheeeeeeee!!!!!!!

A photo, in remembrance.

You know I’m really grasping for blog-fodder when I post about my fingernails.

The tips of my fingers feel weird. Numb and sorta tingly. I guess because nothing has touched them in years with those claws protruding.

Stash Room

Yes, I have a Stash Room. A Room devoted to Stash. You wanna make something of it? Huh? HUH?

Those who see it seldom live to tell the tale.

But L-B has seen it. So has Kristine.

I also have stash in other parts of my condo as well. Taking up more than half the linen closet. Stuffed in part of my livingroom wall unit. And in the master bedroom, in the Sock Yarn Cabinet of Shame.

Lucy really doesn’t care.

AbFab

Yah, more knitting on AbFab.

abfab081004 Off With Their Heads!

I’m half done. Ten of twenty squares. There are four different squares done five times each. This one:

And this one:

I’m not that crazy about the squares throw, but I expect it’ll look better when completed. Besides, I’ve got at least two more AbFabs I’m gonna make, so I can do those in different patterns.

No work today. Going to the dentist (boo!), then to Knit Happens (yay!)

Comments

  1. I hear you anbout the fingernails. Ask Jen…we’ll be in chatting in IM, and all of a sudden, she’ll beg me to file down my nails, I look up and see that there is on the average of one typo per entry. And let me tell you, it’s hell in blogland when I do that. My nails are strong too, break resistant, and take forever to file, only to grow back 2 weeks later. I wish my hair was like that!

  2. I would pay money to take a tour of your stash!

  3. Hey Wendy-With the leaving for college of my youngest I have turned the kid’s den into my knitting/stash room and can’t believe I didn’t have one before. I love walking into a whole room of yarn and needles. Am now decorating with enough knitty stuff to scare away family members. They are most afraid of my sheep mask from MSW that is on my glass head from Pier I. Jane

  4. Your AbFab is really nice, I love the colors that you chose!

I too would pay money to tour your stash… perhaps you can take a picture of the room for us to ogle over?

    Thanks for a great blog!

  5. I have done a couple of the AbFabs and I really like the stripes pattern the best. The yarn is so beautiful that I find the simple pattern really showcases the yarn. It’s boring to knit but it looks good.

  6. Picture requests!

1- the new nails. I don’t know why. I just expected a picture.

2- the sock yarn cabinet. As much as I’d like to see the stash, it’s a big request. I’ll settle for something small- thus the sock yarn cabinet.

    Please?

  7. I have the weakest nails ever. They never grow…but if they did, I’d probably keep then a little over the tip anyway! :)

  8. Good morning Wendy….

I second the request for a picture of your sock yarn stash.

Good luck at the dentist, I am visiting my peridontist early tomorrow and then will stop at a LYS for solace.

  9. I hope the dentist tells you your teeth are lovely. *snicker*

You know, I realize I am about to make some enemies here, but I don’t think you should post a picture of your stash room, or the Sock Yarn Cabinet (of Shame? Shame for the Stash? Blasphemer!). I think not seeing it adds a layer of mystery–no matter what our collective imaginations could come up with, it’s probably nowhere near the reality of your stash. At this point, your stash of yarn has reached mythic proportions. It’s enough to know that you have a Room, and that…THE ROOM IS NOT ENOUGH.

Now, a picture of your Spongebob collection…is an entirely different thing.

  10. Hey Wendy, just wait until you try and wash your hair with your new short nails – a totally different experience!

Good luck at the dentist – I’m going to mine today too!

  11. I agree with Em — there is a level of mystery about the stash room. But, oh, I really want to see it.

I only have a stash bucket. It’s mostly acrylic *blush*. But one day, when I grow up, I will have a stash room too! Oh yes!

I know I say this every time, but Lucy is so freakin’ adorable.

  12. Kristine and I lived to tell the tale, but I dream about that room! ;-) Scary thing is, if we combined our stashes,we’d have our own shop!

  13. Didn’t you mention one time that you have a boot room? A boot room and a stash room…man, you are livin’ the life!! :-)

  14. Stashes are funny. My sister has what I would call a fabulous knitting room — it’s a huge room with a fireplace, two over-sized leather chairs, and a wall of the small bins you see in yarn stores. It looks like a classy yarn shop. It is stuffed with the most wonderful, expensive yarns money can buy — she buys every yarn imaginable. A knitting friend of hers came over to visit and was taken to “the sacred stash.” Her comment? “Where do you keep your yarn?” My sister said, you’re looking at it! She replied, “Oh, I thought you would have a stash. My yarn room is filled with large bins stacked floor to ceiling around the entire room.” I guess stashes are relative!

  15. Always get a nice chuckle when I read your blog…also, I’m wondering if when you next take a picture of AbFab, you could put something in the picture that would show it’s scale? Ruler, shoe, Lucy, etc.? :)

  16. LOL – I, too have a room for what I lovingly call STASHZILLA…and it’s accompanied by my sewing/costuming fabric stash as well. I think they breed… ;-)

  17. Stash pictures! We must have Stash Pictures!!!! Any of your stash, all of your stash. With Lucy prominently featured. I’m also curiuos if yours is the “yarn-shop” style stash whereyou can get at everything right away or if it’s in bins where you have to dig.

I could probably skip on seeing your new nails, but I also can’t believe you kept them that long for such a long period of time. Of course mine break on their own if I don’t file them down regularly.

  18. I just cut off my nails recently. I am STILL not used to feeling my fingertips. They may need to be long again.

AND my dream has come true this week–I had a guest room closet lined with shelves for my stash. Everything that was dumped into that closet is now beautifully arranged on the shelves. Of course, the stuff under the bed is still waiting for a home but only so many shelves fit in the closet….I would love to see a picture of your stash room.

  19. How can you mention stash without a guided stash tour? Bob would love to be our guide, you know he would! :)

I had the same experience with fingernails/fingertips when I cut mine down several years ago. My fingers tingled like they had been injured or cut themselves. Very odd sensation.

  20. We must all worship at the altar of the stash. Can I please be your stalker?

  21. Lady you could KNIT with those nails!! Who needs needles?

I hope you find a happy-medium length, I know what you mean about not likin’ the shorties.
