My current work in progress:

1. Mighty Mini, designed by Rachel Henry, knit from Socks That Rock Worthy in the "Tanzanite" and "The Green That Sings" colorways on a 3.0 mm needle.

My New Wheel

My new wheel is scheduled to be delivered on Thursday. It is a Lendrum double treadle complete folding wheel. I purchased it from Bountiful. The extremely nice lady I talked to on the phone told me she had several in stock, so if you’re looking for this wheel, there you have it.

So Lenny the Lendrum should be delivered on Thursday. Starting Friday, I am off from work until January 10. Ahhhhhhhhh . . .

I foresee lots of spinning.

Speaking of spinning, my current spinning project:

Staid grey wool.

It occurs to me that I ought to slop the gifts into the gift bags (yup, bought the gift bags ages ago) before the wheel gets here, otherwise there may be serious problems with getting that done.

And the fake tree was delivered today. I really ought to put it together tonight.

Stash Enhancement

I made an unscheduled surprise trip to Knit Happens this past Sunday. I saw the Kaalund mohair yarn in person (in yarn?) that Kristine blogged about last week on the shop blog. It is indeed glorious. And some of it asked nicely to come home with me.

What could I do? It said “please take me home.”

I am a sucker for nice polite yarn. I also forgot to take a photo of said nice polite yarn. Doh!

I bought one skein each of “Toucan” and “Forest Floor.” There’s a color chart here.

Poor Deprived Kitty

Some of you commented on yesterday’s photo of Lucy and the sad lack of kitty toys shown. I believe there were only four catnip mice visible in the photo. And only one of those mice was knitted from cashmere! Poor Lucy!

Hair Update

Several of you have left comments asking about the state of my hair. Some of you have emailed me with similar questions.

Nope, I’ve not had it cut yet. See?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go cough up a lung.

Comments

  1. The hair is very nice, as is the Lucy picture.

I have a question as a non-spinner*. Why do you need two wheels? I can certainly understand wanting to have two beautiful wheels in one’s home, but I was wondering if there was a practical reason for owning more than one.

    * I am only marginally a non-spinner, as I dreamed about spinning last night! Funny thing is that before I started cello lessons, I had an extremely vivid dream in which I was play a cello beautifully. I think this means something…

  2. Yet another Melissa says:

Because I am a thoughtful, caring person, and I know how difficult it can be to have to decide between two luscious colors, let me rush to your assistance. Please start with “Forest Floor” Kaalund. I’m dying to see how the colors turn out once their knit up. And happy holidays to you, Lucy, Lenny, and Katarina.

  3. You’ve got the spinning bug really badly ! Fab !
    Feel better soon.

  4. Who needs lungs anyway? I’m more concerned with the constant state of deprivation which is poor Lucy’s lot in life. Oh the humanity.

  5. You’ve come around to my wheel. Nice work.

Now, of course, you need the custom-made padded carry bag…..
    ;-)

  6. I think your hair looks nice, now that’s it’s grown out some. Still can’t hold a candle to Lucy’s fluffiness, though! Poor deprived kitty.

  7. You know, that tree box looks pretty festive as is. Will anybody care if it’s assembled, so long as great gifts show up at its base? I think not.

  8. CONGRATS!!!!! On your new wheel, and great choice!!!!
I absolutely LOVE my lendrum, at first I wasn’t sure about switching from a double drive to scotch tension, but on the lendrum its a piece of cake. The buck stops here I know I won’t ever have to try out other wheels again.
Have a Merry Christmas to you and Lucy, and have fun with your new Wheel.

  9. Congrats on your Lendrum, I’ve seen them up close and they seem very nice. You’ll like Scotch tension, it so simple – I’m a total convert, no fiddling till you get a happy medium, you just make sure the flyer turns and then work with the break band. I’m in pursuit of my second wheel, a Kromski Mazurka so I’ll have something portable.

  10. Answer to the reason why you need two spinning wheels: Because.

Great Hair. Great Mohair. Great Spinning. U Rock.

  11. “Answer to the reason why you need two spinning wheels: Because.”

Okay, I can accept that. ;-)

  12. As a constant lurker, thanks for the hair update. I was picturing you with a buzz cut with Lucy’s name carved into the back. Happy holidays!

  13. Have fun with your new wheel. I have a single treadle Lendrum on order through my favorite wheel lady. We do not know when it will appear, so it will be a total surprise. I hope it is soon though. Coughing up a lung… you might want to check out Mucinex at http://www.mucinex.com/ it really works! NAYY

  14. I was recently gifted with a Lendrum folding wheel a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It was supposed to be a Christmas present but my husband just couldn’t wait (aren’t I glad he couldn’t!) I hope you like your new wheel as much as I like mine!

  15. hair is looking great, I forsee a Wendyspins.net coming up- equipped with a store :)

and yes I am sure Lucy has an impoverished life of desperation and other untoward things… hahahahahaha

  16. Oh – I’m so jealous. I’m good with the “because” answer to why you need two. I know I need two and I only have one. I’m up in the air over the Lendrum or the Schacht. I’m waiting for some time to go try them both. Everyone really seems to love the Lendrum, so that is definitely swaying me. I can’t wait to read what you think.

  17. Why a second wheel indeed! I started with a used Ashford traditional, then purchased a double treadle Lendrum for portability. I love it! Last year my Christmas gift was a Lennox 30 inch saxony – a beautiful parlor wheel. Watch out, with 2 in the house, I think they might multiply. Hope you feel much better soon. Keep up the beautiful spinning and knitting and have a great Christmas!

  18. Good morning,
    First time commentor, long-time reader.
    I’m also a yarnaholic. It’s a family defective gene.
Since you’ve started spinning and showing us your lovely yarns, I’ve been obsessing about growing my stash. I’ve been lurking on ebay and elann’s bargain site for weeks trying to find acceptable stash loaders.
I’m dying here! Are you going to post your wares? I’m in torment!
Thanks for letting me unload about this, it’s been weighting me down for awhile.
    I don’t know that I need to stop hoarding fine yarns, I don’t think that’s a problem. I can stop anytime I want to… ;)

  19. As to your Tree in a Box, please preview this website before you set up the tree.

However, don’t show it to Lucy — she may get ideas ….

Of course, if you’ve already seen this site, please ignore me.

  20. AH, you have chosen wisely!
Lois at Bountiful is wonderful to deal with. Two of my three wheels have come from her, and when the time comes to loom-up the old workroom, I’ll visit with her again.
I hope to visit her in person someday.
    Enjoy!

  21. I hope the “lack of toys” commenters were being sarcastic, LOL…

And I KNEW it! You got a traveling wheel so you could bring it to WORK with you! A-HA!

Oh, and I think the hair looks good long…but ultimately it’s YOUR hair ;-)

  22. I’m just posting, because I’ve sold trees exactly like that at work.

Which tree is it? 7.5 Larch? Or Frasier?
