Wacky Wednesday

Early morning sky in DC:

sky092805 Wacky Wednesday

Today was One of Those Days.

There was a Very Important Powwow at the office today. Yesterday as I was formulating my excuse for why I would not be able to attend the Very Important Powwow, the Big Boss phoned me and said “Please plan to attend the Very Important Powwow tomorrow with me and the Really Big Boss.”

Curses, foiled again.

As I was sitting in the Very Important Powwow, trying to look as meek and insignificant as possible, it crossed my mind to wonder how the Extraordinarily Important People present would react if I whipped out a camera and starting taking photos for my blog.

Ah, the power of the blog!

So. Yeah, I was going to head over to Knit Happens apres work for Late Night, but the extreme wackiness of this Wednesday caused extreme fatigue and precluded me from doing so.

Skye

I’m close to completing the back.

Lucy Fur

Yes! The Zoom Groom! That’s what the purple grooming thingie is called. The King of All Remote Controls gave it to Miss Lucy for Christmas last year, and she loves it.

Alisa asked:
What do you do to get all of her fur out of your projects? I’m currently knitting the Feather and Fans shawl from Gathering of Lace for my mother and my Oliver’s fur is all over it and in it… Usually I just ignore the fur when I’m working with thicker yarns, but it really shows up in the lace. He may be a shorthair, but he sheds a lot.

Lucy actually doesn’t shed all that much. Sure, a stray cat hair or two usually work their way into my knitting, but nothing to cause any concern. Unless I were knitting for someone who is dramatically allergic to cats. Then we’d have big problems.

After you brush me, may I have some greenies?

Comments

  1. Ah yes, Greenies, a.k.a. Kitty Crack. What do they put in those?? L’ello loves them too. Don’t try to pet him right after you give him some, ‘cuz he thinks there still might be some in your hand and he’ll try to get them…ow! Then he feels bad for scratching mom and I have to give him another greenie. :-)

  2. That “Lucy face” is just incredible – so dignified and poised!! I have 3 Siamese and they are just the best!! My Jacob, a Snowshoe Siamese, would instantly fall for Lucy. I say just let the cat fir be………..

  3. *chuckles* Lucy really is addicted to those Greenies, isn’t she? I wonder if my feline babies will like them as much, too. I ordered the free packet . . .

I sometimes have trouble with animal hair working its way into my stuff, but most of the time, I can spot it quickly and just pull the offending hair out. (There’s something to be said for pale hair on dark yarns.)

  4. It’s just as well. You would have shoved me over the edge and I would have walked out with Ballerina #4

  5. Wow … I love Lucy’s pic today. She looks so adorable … you should give her more greenies!

  6. where do you work in d.c? i’m at the watergate, and i know that stupid crane is in my skyline too

  7. I’ve heard that about Ragdolls! A person I used to know had two– beautiful and non-sheddy. My long-haired lady also doesn’t shed very much, she’s a Maine Coon mix. Knowing her fur, it’s her lack of a major undercoat. My Bombay mix is another story. She’s shorthaired, but sheds SO much.

I sent in for a free sample of Greenies!

And I love your new sweater. The color is beautiful.

  8. Dang — you are a fast knitter! The back of Skye finished already… are you sure you weren’t knitting during Very Important Meeting?!? The color is beautiful — I can’t wait to see the finished product.

  9. I’ve enjoyed the blog for quite a while, and am always fascinated by how fast you knit and how beautiful the work is. I’ve also noticed that you have been taking pictures of the sky lately…you must get to work early to be able to watch the sunrise! Lucy is so cute…please give her a few greenies for me :)

  10. My Sassy is very good at that same look. Like Lucy, she knows I can’t resist. If I don’t respond in what she considers a timely manner, the look becomes, ” Give me the #%^8 treats!” We are still waiting for our free Greenies to come.

  11. I also succimbed to the greenies offer – Perry the Bi-Polar deserves a few (more) treats in her life. How do you knit so rapidly? Maid service? Are your meals all delivered? I have a hard time squeezing in an hour some days.

  12. damn! succumbed, not succimbed!!!

  13. Of course!! The Zoom Groom. As a professional petstylist how could I forget the magic of the Zoom Groom? Thank you, Wendy! Lucy’s coat always looks so luxurious. I’ll have to try that trick on my three Am. Shorthairs. =)

  14. I’m lovin’ Skye. I think I need to try some of that yarn. Heaven knows some days I need some calmer ;)
Lucy needs more greenies. No-one deserves them more.

  15. Lucy, we didn’t know about kitty greenies. Are they shaped like toothbrushes like our greenies?

    Your Doggie Pals,
    Sophia & Bosco

PS ~ if you roll around on the yarn you might be able to leave more fur behind. We don’t shed much so we know the frustration of not being able to leave behind a great deal of fur.

  18. I’m a firm believer that animal hair in my knitting is “added value”. I make sure everyone knows that I am nice enough not to charge them extra for the honor of having a keepsake from my dogs.

  19. Joan in Reno says:

If that witchcraft love spell thingie is true (knitting some of your hair into a gift for your beloved will bind him to you), everyone I knit for must be devoted to my cats because all of my knits are liberally sprinkled with assorted cat hair. No wonder I am so fond of them!

  20. I have a best friend that is deathly allergic to cats. Her airway literally shuts down if she comes into contact with any amount of cats unbeknownst previously to her. While she was a paramedic, she walked into a cathouse. They had to send another ambulance, because the one she came in had to rush her off to the hospital. She has medication to take before coming in my home.

Any way, it’s not the cat hair people are allergic to, but the dander. The skin, saliva or urine/poop particles. I figure that besides being allergic, she’s a nurse and paramedic so she should know. That and the fact we sat together in nursing school with me covered head to toe in cat hair and she never had so much as a sniffle.

  21. Can you imagine, you sitting there with super boss and more super dooper boss and screeching out, “I’m so blogging this!” haha! ;)
Love the shadow on the building~ The sun this time of year is so pretty!
    Give Lucy 2 greenies, please!

  22. I found some Greenies at the PetCo near me, and I figured I would try them (well, not me, the cats!). My cats don’t normally like crunchy treats, but THESE! Gobbled them up! I couldn’t believe it!
