Greetings From Sock Yarn Central

Just time for a quickie blog post because we are drowning in sock yarn!

Just kidding — the remainder of the sock yarn is all nicely packaged up and ready to be mailed. This is thanks to Phyl, who came over this evening and helped get it ready for mailing!

Lucy was so excited to have a new person to play with!

So. The rest of the sock yarn is ready to go. If you get a package in the mail from me in the near future, you’ll know you won some.

By the way — Dave? Dude, you are so getting sock yarn. But don’t worry — I promise not to deliver it in person.

After we got the sock yarn packaged up, Phyl pulled out her socks-in-progress to show me why she feels my toe-up sock pattern is broken:

It is hard to argue with evidence like that, isn’t it?

Hey, Guess What?

Saturday is my blog’s fourth birthday. Alert the media.

  6. GOod heavens, is that all sock yarn that’s being given away? You are a generous woman. Seeing that shot of all the yarn makes me feel much better about my comparatively meager sock yarn stash.

  12. Hmmm, looks like a sizable dent has been made in your stash cupboard. What are you going to fill the space with?

  13. WOW!!!! I’m so going to show the picture of your sock yarn so she stops yapping about how much yarn I have. hehehe

And yes, really, that is a LOT of sock yarn–glad you had some help (grin).

  16. Wow, look at all those soft, chubby balls just waiting to be snuggled and loved by their new owners! It warms the heart, I tell you. (Now if only so many people were willing and able to adopt animals… *sigh*)

Thanks for running the contest. Of course I hope I get sock yarn, but if not, it’s still spread love around and that’s never a bad thing.

  17. Wowzee that’s a lot of sock yarn! You should have lots of space available now! What to do what to do. Now I don’t feel so bad about my SIX skeins of sock yarn with one on the way! I’ve been a sock knitting spree so maybe I’ll use mine up this year! Happy 4th blog bday! I reserved your book through Amazon yesterday. Looking forward to seeing all the patterns. More stuff to get in the way of my socks no?

  18. 2002 was an excellent blogly vintage. Time sure flies, doesn’t it?

  19. Mind having an early champagne toast to your blog birthday? Or you prefer margarita?

  20. Happy Blogiversary!

  21. Wow, I’m going to go have some quiet time to get myself to stop coveting. That is amazing, and you are very, very generous.

  22. I’ve never seen so much sock yarn. *yearns* You’re so generous!

But I’m changing the topic because I think I have pretty much zero chance for sock yarn after seeing those photos yesterday.

I just wanted to tell you how cool it is that you’re going to be on KUCI! It makes me feel like I’ve got a degree from a college of *distinction*, now that you’re going to be on their radio station. :D

    (And congrats on the blogivesary!)

  23. Happy Blogiversary Wendy!!!

  25. That is one hunka-hunka-sockin’ Opal. Now that the pressure is off and the shelves are cleared, you can buy more yarn, right? Happy Blogiversary. I’ve enjoyed your posts for a long time, and hope that you keep on writing and publishing and knitting so well.

  26. That is a lot of sock yarn. I’m very jealous! Happy anniversary!! Congrats, and I hope it’s not broken I plan on casting the pattern on this weekend with my last ball of domestic sock yarn **sniff, so sad** Should it bother me how excited I got by the idea of “toe-up” socks?

  27. Happy Blogiversary!
The sock yarn stash is beautiful! Would be nice to see it all knit up into socks and to have a follow-up picture.

    Happy blog anniversary.

  40. Rachel H says:

Dude. I’ve been in Yarn Shops with less sock yarn than what’s in that photo. And that’s only the stuff you’re sending to new homes? I think I might faint if I saw the whole thing.

    Happy Blogiversary!

  41. Celebrate good times come on! WOW – Happy 4th! And many thanks for everything you share with your loyal readers! Question: what is your secret to storing the rest of your stash? Love to Lucy!

  42. Sweet fancy Moses, Wendy! That’s a LOT of sock yarn! How good of you to send it out, back into the yarn-lovin’ world.

Hooray on 4 years of knitterly contributions! May you have many more.

  43. How can you have that much sock yarn and not want to roll in it???? Wish I would have entered the contest now….*sigh*

  44. Now that’s a sock yarn stash worthy of a knitter of your calibre, Wendy. Are you sure you want to part with all that?

I got a package in the mail last night. Sometime over the weekend, I’m going to post a picture and a review and “nyeah, nyeah, nyeah I got it before you did,” on my blog. :-) Thanks.

  45. HAPPY Blogiversary! Wendy, no one deserves a “Whooping and Hollering” celebration more than you for a great 4 years!!!
The Meezer and I extend many many happy returns of the day for you and Lucy…we’ll keep reading for at least another 4!
    (((Hugs)))

  46. That’s more sock yarn than our LYS has! You must have one homeric stash.

  47. That sock yarn picture made me laugh. What a sight! You’re so nice to be sharing all that too.

    Happy blog-birthday!

  48. Happy blogday to you
    Happy blogday to you,
You are the goddess of all that’s yarn-ly,
    Happy blogday to you!

Hey, wouldn’t it have been really kewl if they’d released your book on the 4th anny of the blog? Dern those production schedules, anyhow.

  49. Happy Bloggy Day Wendy! What are you going to do to celebrate? Margarita’s in Disneyland;-)

  50. Happy blog birthday! That doesn’t look like a toe-up sock….more like a middle-to-each end sock!

  51. Hi Wendy,
Thought I’d let you know that *I* don’t think your sock pattern is broken. I’m knitting my first pair of toe-up socks with it (my third pair of socks EVER) and it’s working quite nicely. Pictures are on my blog, if you’re interested.

  52. Happy blogversary! Four years, that’s awesome!

That’s a lot of sock yarn! You’ve got the beginnings of a little shop going on. My goodness!

  53. What…on…earth? What did she do to that sock?

    Happy blogiversary!

  54. Brigitte says:

Hey Wendy, here’s to 4 more years! Congratulations, you’re my favorite morning read!

Now that’s sock yarn. I agree with Rachel H. (hey, get back to work you! :0 ), I’d probably faint too if I saw all your yarn/sock yarn. Or drool most unbecomingly…

  55. I just want to say that I think this is so incredibly nice of you and a great way of reaching out to your fellow knitting community. I’m looking at some of these yarns (I spy Lorna’s Laces!) and you could have done well on eBay – I think it’s so lovely that you decided to “pay it forward” instead.

  56. Wow! that is alot of sock yarn, and I thought I had alot! I don’t see any Toasty Toes in that pile. I’ve just discovered it and LOVE it. (check out the picture on the above URL.) Happy blogg-birthday. 4 years is a long in blog history!

  57. Happy 4th anniversary! Thanks for keepin on keepin on. We’re inspired by your knits!

  58. I think that it’s Phyl that’s broken, not the pattern. How many needles does she have going on there?

  59. Wow. You said you had a fair whack of sock yarn to give away, but somehow I am stunned by that picture. :) Happy Blogiversary!

  60. Happy blog birthday! Here’s to four more years! I’m trying to delurk more… btw, you’ve inspired me to try a toe-up sock, despite Phyl’s issues.

  61. Wow, and that’s only the yarn you’re getting rid of?!?

Perhaps something was lost in translation of the sock pattern? ;)

    Happy blogiversary!

  62. Joan Cole says:

I forgot to ask you where is Zauberflote and Torino. I read about them earlier but can’t find them.

  63. Happy Blogiversary! You know there are somewhere around 897 people anxiously waiting at the mailbox to see if they won. :)

  64. Wow on the sock yarn! I think I’m going to show this picture to dh to prove my stash isn’t so bad afterall ROFL!!!
    Yeah for four years too!

  65. I am in awe of the sock stash! And to think, that’s just part of your stash. I feel much better about my little hamper full of yarn now. Its a baby stash.

  66. Castiron says:

    Happy Blogiversary!

So, do you happen to recall the maker and colorway of the Washington Redskins-colored yarn at the bottom of the top picture? Because I now feel morally obligated to track some down and make socks for my parents….

  67. That is a fantastic picture of Lucy! :-D

  68. JOY and feliciations on your anniversary…..we shall all sip the appropriate drink with the appropriate straw configuration…….and count the days til our “Wendy Knits” arrives…..as of midnight: 25 days til publication…….infinite joy looming……..

  69. Oh, my. That’s a LOT OF YARN. I’m seriously impressed…I don’t think I’d have anywhere in my home to store even that much yarn!

Bryan says thank you for showing his pictures online – he’s such an attention hog, I swear.

  70. Thanks, Wendy for your your blog! I am delurking just to congratulate you.

  71. Ooh ooh ooh!!! Happy blogbirthday!!!! Yay Wendy!

  72. Happy Blogiversary! You are so generously entertaining the world everyday without asking for anything in return. May God bless you and Lucy.

  73. Lisa in Suwanee says:

No April Foolin’: Happy 4th Blog-anniversorus!

  74. Wow, happy 4th blogiversary Wendy! You didn’t begin it as an April Fools’ joke, by any chance?

  75. OMG! that’s like a yarn store ya got there! woohoo for the lucky recipients!

  76. Wendy, you totally rock. Thanks very much for letting me have some fun. A tip of the ol’ margarita in your direction on this momentous occasion!!

  77. happy blogaversary, my knitting goddess :-)

  78. MamaLana says:

Happy Blog Birthday, Wendy. Hey, I agree with Phyl. My toes up socks look just like hers. My . . .um . . . toes down? . . . socks look great, except for the Kitchener^&%$#$#%@!#$ stitch. I send Lucy a smooch on her cute belly.
    –MamaLana

  79. My gosh is that a lot of gorgeous yarn – and all my colors! I sure hope my entry was chosen!
Happy blog b-day to you – April Fools Day (it would have been my dad’s 84th bday….we used to have such fun on his special day playing pranks on him)

  80. Ok now, why is it I have such a hard time finding yarn like Phyl’s. Nice subtle colors. Things I could actually wear on the street that wouldn’t clash with all my clothes? Don’t get me wrong, I have several pair of lovely Very Vivids in VERY bright colors which I love for padding around the house or, better yet, for annoying my somewhat stodgy kid sister. (Yeah, I’ll still be torturing her when we’re in our nineties.) But where are all the quiet colors hiding, huh?

  81. That’s a lot of sock yarn, no wonder Phyl-Phyl got into a bit of a tangle. A.x

  82. Happy blog-birthday to you,
    Happy blog-birthday to you,
Happy blog-birthday Dear Wendyknits (and Lucy),
    Happy blog-birthday to you!!!

Hey Phyl- my attempt at socks on 2 circs went something like that. I’m gonna stick with my trusty dpns from now on!
