My current work in progress:

1. Strandwanderer, designed by Lea Viktoria, knit from Wollmeise Merino "Pure" in the "Zenzi" colorway on a 3.25 mm (U.S. size 3) needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Re-Entry

I left my home this morning and there was no limo waiting outside for me. Huh? I took the subway to work. Yes, I have resumed my secret identity: a mild-mannered civil servant.

Oh well. What’s a girl to do? Just continue knitting.

I did actually finish something this past weekend, though I learned that signing books and knitting are two activities that sort of don’t mix.

Here are the Spirit Trail socks:

As previously mentioned, I used Spirit-Trail 100% superwash wool yarn and my generic toe-up pattern. I did a simple lace rib on the leg of the socks that goes like this:

Row 1: (k2, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k1) around.
Rows 2 – 4: knit

So, I started another sock. I couldn’t resist the Claudia Handpainted yarn that I bought on Saturday, so that’s what I started.

The colorway is “Donna’s Favorite” and I am quite entranced by the way it is knitting up.

My Other Travel Knitting

You might remember that I posted a photo of my wool/mohair handspun last week and indicated that it was going with me on my trip last weekend as well.

Charity Project Alert!

Rebekah at Knit-Knack is doing a charity project for her local Humane Society: The Basil and Abner Critter Charity Drive. She’s collecting animal toys and blankets, etc. Check out her blog for details! There are prizes . . .

Clockwise from the top, that’s Bakerina’s Apricot Hazelnut Jam (YUM!), Bakerina’s Light Apple Butter (YUM!), and Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter (Um, yeah . . . YUM!).

I’ve Got a Small Problem

I wanna watch tv, but Lucy’s hogging the remote.

  1. Oooh. Beautiful sock yarn, and that dinner looks really good!

Is Lucy the type of cat who doesn’t mind having her belly rubbed? Cause the way she’s hogging that remote looks like a trap to me….

  2. What? No limo? Was the subway at least going in the right direction??

Your FBS looks beautiful, but I think we’ve established I like the whole blue-green thing, right?

  3. You mean she’s HUGGING the remote…

  4. Lucy’s just paperweighing the remote for you. Wouldn’t want it to fly off or anything.

Not that I have any experience with this and my catchen, you understand. Nope.

And doubly so because of your whirlwind weekend away! They can’t trust anything anymore.

I love the browns and blues! Gorgeous. And I like how that sock you just finished is simple but has a spice of fun in it. I’ll have to do that one.

By the way, I have looked online and in my books to no avail, and maybe you know the answer to this? I had to do a cable caston with my bias lace scarf, and I want a castoff that will look more like the cable caston. What castoff would I use? I don’t want to ruin the beautiful scarf with an inept castoff. Thank you for your help!

  6. Crap, stupid Benkei the Sidekick. Sorry about the double post.

  7. Do you think the KOARC tought her the remote is HER toy this weekend when he was minding her? Judging from the way things are with my own “Remote Controller” I wouldn’t be surprized…

  8. taught not tought
I’m going to blush for a year now….

  9. Oh, another great pair of socks! I’m so on board with Rebekah’s project…

  10. The subway??? Heavens. I’ll be looking for your photo on the Celebrities on Public Transportation website tomorrow.

  11. Is that a habit Lucy picked up from her daddy?? Mmmm…I give your dinner two thumbs up!

  12. I REALLY love that you’re going through a sock phase the same time as me. Seriously. I’m getting so much inspiration from your posts, even though you get to be more productive because of your built-in knitting commute time.

  13. Hey, Rossana’s on to something, all that quality time with Dad….Princess Of Remote Control? (PORC?)No, that won’t do.
    Welcome home!

  14. I love the Spirit Trail socks and the new Claudia sock is gorgeous (I’m knitting with some right now too).

    Amazing progress on the FBS!

    Welcome home!

  15. Thanks for mentioning our drive, I hope it goes over well.

I think Lucy wants you to turn on Animal Planet. Abner doesn’t hug remotes, he eats them. So far 7 and counting.

  16. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, all of it. ‘Specially the chocolateypeanutbuttery thing. MMMmmmmmmm….

  17. Lovely finished socks and new ones too. The FBS is lovely in that gorgeous handspun. I think Lucy simply takes after her dad. Daddy’s little girl.

  18. Great looking socks!

  19. Mmmmmmm. I love Bakerina’s jams. Bakerina is pretty cool, too.

Everyone needs a nice fuzzy remote-warmer. How could that possibly be a problem?

Is it me, or could this turn out to be the Summer of Socks? I’ve started much more ambitious projects, but the socks are still captivating me with their portability and simplicity. Margene seems to have come down with the same disease.

  20. When you leave Lucy home with KOARC you had to expect she would pick up a bad habit or two. Now all that’ll be on TV is the animal planet.

Thanks for sharing the pattern for the sock. Think I’ll have to try that one.

  21. I love the top part of your sock. Thank you for sharing the pattern. The rest of it is great too! I swore: no more socks but started one up last week. Guess who is making an afternoon visit to the yarn shop for more sock yarn? They sneak up on you and they’re just so portable. I also swore not to start up anymore projects but…

Alas, cat fur doesn’t spin. At least 30 years ago when I tried it wouldn’t. I have a steady pile of fur next to my spot on the couch. If only I could find a use for it. So soft and lovely. Comb whomever whenever they come to stretch out over my legs. I’ve become an expert on reading and typing on my laptop off to the side.

  22. Oh Wendy,
LOVE your socks! Thank You for the pattern…
The Meezer’s best bud, The Princess, hugs remotes, too, but gets overzealous and turns the TV off, on, ups the volume, mutes it, then gets terribly confused b/c the TV is on the other side of the room and doing all these strange things…(sigh)
    (((hugs)))

  23. To answer Frarochvia’s question- a stretchy BO would look better then a normal bind off in comparison, though a sewn bind off or italian bind off (http://www.lanagrossa.com/service/stricktipps/stricktipp_italienischabketten.html) might match better, though might not be stretchy enough.

  24. those socks (and the new one) look yummy. Shame about hte lack of limos… and I hope Lucy gives you the remote back.

  25. You have the same dishes as I inherited from my great-grandmother! I had them shipped to me recently and several broke, so I am trying to replace some in order to keep passing them down. Do you remember where you got yours?
