My current work in progress:

1. Bigger on the inside designed by Kate Atherley, knit from Madelinetosh tosh sock in the Cobalt colorway, on U.S. size 3 (3.25mm) needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Loose Ends

A day off work is great for tying up loose ends and for finishing stuff. Like Deirdre.

deirdre070306 Loose Ends

Deirdre is knitted from Rowan Calmer yarn in the Calmer colorway on US 6 (4mm) needles.

deirdre070306a Loose Ends

It’s my own design, pattern not yet available.

deirdre070306b Loose Ends

A day off work is good for finishing up a pair of socks, too.

falconseye070306 Loose Ends

These are toe-up socks, knitted from Socks That Rock sock yarn in the “Falcon’s Eye” colorway using my Generic Toe Up Sock Pattern on US 0 (2mm) needles.

A day off work is also good for just contemplating life:

Dierdre is stunning! I love the yarn you picked, too – Calmer is so soft and yummy.

Enjoy your day off and the holiday….

  2. susan says:

Deirdre is beautiful! I love the shaping. Happy 4th, enjoy your second day off!

  3. --Deb says:

Deirdre is just lovely. And Calmer? One of the very, very few cotton yarns I actually like….

  4. Jocele says:

Beautiful sweater. And beatiful color. I’m a sucker for anything blue.

  5. Val says:

Is that knitted-on I-cord on the neckline? Such a nice clean edge; I’ll have to try it next time I knit a pullover.

    Lovely sweater, lovely kitty.

  6. Leslie says:

I’m really hopeful that you’ll publish the pattern for Dierdre. She’s gorgeous.

  7. Rob says:

Add my voice to the wave of “Deirdre is lovely” comments.

  8. Sarah says:

You know. At first, I wasn’t too excited about Deirdre–I know that sounds like a terrible statement and I apologize for the sound of it but it was like “Nice cable” but I kept waiting excited for the fair isle instead. BUT. Now that she’s all assembled, my reaction is “WOW!!!!!!” I really hope that her pattern is available in a future book. She’s utterly lovely.

  9. Carin says:

Your Deirdre is a beautiful design, very nice.

  10. L-B says:

The lines of Deirdre are so beautiful! But, wait! A new addition? What’s the mannequin’s name?

  11. Kim says:

Dierdre is lovely!! I hope the pattern will soon be available for purchase- I already have Calmer in my stash!!

  12. Kathy says:

Deirdre is my favorite of all your sweaters you’ve knitted since I started reading you blog. I just love it.

  13. Frarochvia says:

Hee, I’m not the first to notice that mannequin but I’ll be the second! I’m shocked you didn’t introduce her and tell us her name! I like Deirdre a lot, now that it’s all put together… It seems to pull together, like ribbing does, but isn’t boring. Neat construction.

  14. pixie says:

I believe that color-way is actually called calmer, yes im a geek like that!

  15. Barbp says:

Beautiful sweater, great socks and a beautiful great Lucy!

  16. Tish says:

Deirdre is gorgeous. Lucy must be contemplating how she can get one of her own. :)

  17. Marilyn A says:

Dierdre is beautiful! I love the way the pattern subtley draws in like a loose ribbing. Do you find Calmer difficult to knit with? I tried a swatch and nearly went crazy trying to make the yarn slide. It even stuck to Addi Turbo’s, at least in my hands. I’m a tight knitter, so I may have to avoid Calmer, even though it is a beautiful yarn.

  18. Kelly says:

Dierdre looks beautiful. Looks a bit form-fitting but not too clingy, like it’s gliding smoothly along the curves; my favorite chracteristic in clothes. Um.., does that make sense?

I thought you were going for a *another* finished project when I read the third “A day off work…”!

    Enjoy your holidays!

  19. Priscilla says:

Congratulations on completing the gorgeous Dierdre! Like others, I have never seen this mannequin before. If you haven’t named her yet, you should consider having a naming contest! Have a happy fourth of July!

  20. Sunidesus says:

Deirdre is gorgeous! As are Lucy’s eyes. Such a pretty kitty :)

  21. Jacinta says:

If Deirdre is in your next book, it’ll be a must buy for me! A truly beautiful sweater and in Calmer too heavenly!!

  22. debbie says:

i love your str falcon’s eye socks! i, on the other hand have been having problems finding the ‘right’ pattern for this yarn – it’s the stripes – anyway, i think i’m going to go ahead and knit a shortie pair of jaywalkers – i think the pattern will compliment the striping effect. oh and btw, i love your book – it’s an easy read for me, your character shows through; i also think i have a collectors’ edition cause pages 117-148 are upside-down, which doesn’t bother me….

  23. Rachel says:

Dierdre is stunning; a classic that I could envision myself wearing for years through all the fads. Great design!

Waiting with excitment for the pattern. :)

  24. Karin says:

Deirdre turned out lovely. Makes my fingers itch to have a go myself.

  25. Fríða says:

cute socks as always. this sweater is truly gorgeous, such a classic design! hope you publish it soon, I would really like to try it out. and a happy anniversary to the United States!

  26. Patty says:

I love the way you photograph your sweaters, even in the book. Everybody should notice that you can REALLY see the lines and pattern and shaping. There is one designer, who I love, but her latest books/magazines barely show the garment! The poses are all slouchy. I want to see what I’m getting into!
So, thank you for letting us really see what you’ve done – it’s gorgeous.

  27. patty bolgiano says:

Will you be doing a book signing at Stitches East? It’s in November and it might help the woeful lack of stash you have…

    Patty

  28. Jinxsa says:

2 finished sweaters and a pair of socks (I will refrain from sobbing even tho I just ripped and entire hat back to the band again).

    Happy 4th!

  29. Sarah HB says:

    Wow, that is gorgeous!

And the socks turned out great.

  30. Carol says:

    Wendy,
Deidre is gorgeous! I agree, it would be a wonderful pattern for your next book. Like Patty, I’d love to know if you’ll be at Stitches East in Baltimore?

  31. Suzanne says:

Diedre is stunning. You are as talented with your designs as you are with all of the intricate knitting you do.

  32. margene says:

Diedre is fabulous! Hopefully you’ll make the pattern available soon as I can see her on me!:-)

  33. Knitnana says:

Wow! Diedre is gorgeous, but that photo of Lucy is just terrific…she’s such a beautiful girl!
(Will Diedre be available in a XL – 46 – by any chance?)
    (((hugs)))

  34. Loren says:

Your Diedre looks stunning, but you knew that!! I liked the mannequin that you displayed her on. Where did you purchase it? Beautiful knitting!!!!

  35. Michelle says:

Deirdre reminds me of an Adrienne Vittadini pattern- clean lines, simple shape, and absolutely gorgeous. Hope you’ll share/sell/publish/drop-in-leaflets-from-an-airplane-at the-beach the pattern soon!
