My current work in progress:

1. Mighty Mini, designed by Rachel Henry, knit from Socks That Rock Worthy in the "Tanzanite" and "The Green That Sings" colorways on a 3.0 mm needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Weekend Fun

Yup, it was a fun weekend!

I took a quick trip to Manhattan to visit Formerly Blogless Margaret — took the train up on Saturday morning and back last night.

Despite a horrific weather report, we had a lovely almost rain-free Saturday afternoon, made lovelier by lunch at The Peanut Butter Company, and then a visit to Purl. I got to see the wall of Koigu and a lot of other lovely yarns, including some amazing Alchemy stuff — some colorways I hadn’t seen before.

After Purl, we went uptown to Knitty City, where we had a nice leisurely time browsing the yarns and hanging out and knitting.

My haul from the weekend:

yarn103006 Weekend Fun

Clockwise from top left, that is Austermann Step sock yarn, Handmaiden Sea Silk, Handmaiden cashmere, Alchemy Haiku and a tin of Blue Sky dpns.

After the yarn crawl, these two little charmers entertained me. Meet Formerly Blogless Margaret’s kitties!

Kiki:

kiki103006 Weekend Fun

And Coco:

coco103006 Weekend Fun

These beautiful kitties are Siberians. Kiki is 2 years old and Coco is 12 weeks old.

Coco was a huge help in the knitting process!

coco103006a Weekend Fun

Look at that sweet, sleepy face!

coco103006b Weekend Fun

So the rest of the weekend was spent talking, knitting, going out to dinner, and watching movies. I did offer to take Coco home with me, because I know Lucy would love to have her as a baby sister. You know, because I am thoughtful like that.

But I came home alone. Lucy is sleeping off her disappointment.

lucy103006 Weekend Fun

So there was a lot of knitting time this weekend. Guess what I finished?

denim103006 Weekend Fun

Yup, the denim sweater is done! Alert the media!

And here are some “in the mirror” shots with the flash off, so the color is off — the actual color is much closer to the first pic.

denim103006a Weekend Fun

I finished the knitting on the train home yesterday, and painstakingly mattress stitched the whole thing together today. I did not enjoy knitting this — the denim yarn was like string. Was it worth it?

denim103006b Weekend Fun

So totally worth it. It’s exactly what I wanted and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

I’m feeling lucky. I think I need to go buy a lottery ticket.

Comments

  1. As much of a lady that Lucy is, I still think she would pound the daylights out of that kitten.

  2. The denim sweater is gorgeous!
Lucy might not want to share her Daddy…or her Mommie either…
    (((hugs)))

  3. I like the denim sweater … the best for everyday wear! Great fit too!!

  4. Denim sweater is great!
Can’t wait to hear how you like the Step. I have my first Step sock almost done. The yarn has a nice sheep-y smell, I think. I’m wanting to believe the Aloe and Jojoba Oil will make my feet soft! lol!

  5. Thank you for bringing back the picture in the bathroom mirror feature. I’ve missed it on a couple of your completed projects.

The sweater and the short hair are both becoming; howver, I’m not sure if the sweater is denim blue or Lucy’s Eyes Blue.

  6. I cannot have another cat. I cannot have another cat. I do not want another cat. I do not want another cat. (I’m lying until I believe it… it could work…) Kitty cuteness.. all around. Yarn goodness.

Please let us know what you think of the Blue Sky DPNs….. I am intrigued by them. Though- as my first (yes, first) set of Celtic Swan DPNs just arrived, and the second set (in sterling) are being made….. I’ll have to put them on my Christmas list if they are worthy;)

  7. Thank you for bringing back the picture in the bathroom mirror feature. I have missed it on a couple of your recently finished projects.

The sweater and the short hair are both becoming; however, I am not sure if the sweater is denim blue of Lucy’s Eyes Blue.

  8. The sweater looks supremely comfortable. Sounds like a lovely weekend.

  9. First, Lucy is the cutest. Second, the denim sweater is a very pretty blue. How can you knit so fast and have such perfect stitches? I have not tried knitting with cotton, denim or silk yet, but I do look forward to trying them out. And, I do have to try to learn to knit socks still, so much homework, but the fun kind!

  10. Ha ha…I was stalking you and I didn’t know it! I dropped into Knitty City yesterday for circular #1s – I’m knitting your toe-up socks (my first sock attempt ever), but with Cat Bordhi’s two-circular technique.

But somehow a few skeins of the Handmaiden Sea Silk made it home with me too. I couldn’t resist the colorway that was all the shades of my Lucy cat.

    Margaret’s kitties are gorgeous!

  11. I would love to know the colorway of the Alchemy Haiku – it looks like gorgeous shades of dark brown, and I love that yarn. Thanks for sharing your haul!

  12. OOOOHHHHH – I bought the same color Sea Silk (Lily Pond) at Stitches Midwest! It’s still in the fondle stage. (Mainly because I have no time to contemplate knitting it. I have a work commute of 6 feet – tough to get any knitting done.) Do you have any interesting plans for yours?? I’m leaning towards Kiri for mine, but that could change the next time I see a sparkly thing…

  13. Looks like a great weekend! The denim sweater is fab! Looks perfect on you too, but i’m partial to a roomy/comfy sweater. Just don’t get to wear them enough here. I look forward to the new sock based on your haul! {{Lucy}}

  14. anne marie in philly says:

I heard you shout “hello!” as you passed thru philly!

luv the denim sweater and the puss pix.

    anne marie in philly

  15. I absolutely adore the sweater!! I’ve been putting off knitting with denim yarn because I understand it’s no fun, but the end result is stunning!! I must bite the bullet!

  16. I would love to hear what you think of the Blue Sky needles – I saw them at Purl and thought they were gorgeous, but I tend to break wooden needles in small sizes, and those aren’t cheap! LOVE their concept, though. Love the Alchemy – that is so extremely addictive!

  17. The yarn that you got is wonderful and I just love the Peanut Butter Company! Purl is the only yarn store in NYC that I’ve been to so far and I love it.

  18. Wow Kiki looks just like my mom and dad’s cat Scruffy. Scruffy is a boneless cat, or so my dad says because he can move in the most unusual wayas.

Glad you had a fabulous time.

  19. Ohh that Lily Pond Sea Silk is scrummy…what colorway is the cashmere? I love their Cashmere-silk 2 ply laceweight too…denim sweater turned out great…looks like a sweater you could just wear to death…

  20. Oooh….a sweater with denim yarn. Sounds and looks perfect. Maybe that should be the first thing I knit for myself after I get out from under the Christmas-present pile. You don’t sound crazy about the yarn — is it more trouble than Lion Brand Homespun?

  21. The denim sweater looks like the perfect comfy weekend sweater. I may have to dig out my stash of denim yarn now.

  22. The sweater looks so snuggly, I love it!

  23. The sweater looks so snuggly, I love it!

  24. The sweater looks so snuggly, I love it!

  25. I love that sweater! It looks like the perfect after work thing to relax in (I have a way with words don’t I?) Its nice to see it on you – it looks great!

  26. Congrats on the denim sweater! It came out great. :)

Nice yarn haul too. If I may ask, which shop had the sea silk?

  27. The sweater is lovely, awesome and inspiring. Where did you buy the pattern if I might ask? I have a bit of yarn I would like to try out w/ it myself.

  28. Lucy must be thinking … Mom went away for the weekend & spent time with other kitties and now they are on the blog and not her. For sure she wouldn’t want to share the blog (never mind her home) with other kitties. Kiki and Coco are beautiful.

Your trip sounds like it was fun. I went to Purl for the 1st time last spring. It was great… still have lots of Koigu for socks that I purchased at Purl.

    Sherry (Twyla Twinkle Berry’s Mom)

  29. I was startled to see Coco’s picture as she looks very much like my Ome. Lovely kitties all. Also, I love the denim sweater. You did a beautiful job in spite of the yarns antisocial tendencies.

  30. Is there a picture of the things you bought in NY? I’m assuming there’s supposed to be one because you say clockwise… But I don’t see the photo. I see all the others just fine. What’s up with that? I love the denim sweater. It’s a perfect alternative to a sweatshirt — looking so much nicer than that! What’s next?

  31. YAY!!!

FOs, kitties, kitties and more kitties, stash.

Worth the wait. Except that I forgot I was going to be waiting and got a little worried this a.m. I am all better now.

Enjoy the comfi-ness, and the knowing you don’t have to do that again!!!

  32. I definitely think Lucy would have fun with a little sister. That Coco is a cutie!

Love the sweater. It looks like the perfect “always comfortable, tend to grab it all the time when looking for something to wear” kind of sweater. If I knit as fast as you, I’d put it on my “to knit” list. sigh.

  33. Oh! Cool Halloween avatar! Love Lucy as the ghost-kitty!

  34. The sweater is great!! It looks very comfy! Those two kitties are so cute!! I’m sure it was hard not taking Coco home with you!! Lucy is adorable as usual.

  35. The denim is great. I’m still looking at mine and can’t make up my mind what pattern to use. Did you do your own or use a pattern and if so, which one? I love going whre there is a new kitten, mine are so big, I think that I am in the spirit of kitten right now, will address that tomorrow.

  36. Ooh, is Purl or Knitty City selling the seasilk?

  37. ahem – so I was outed!!! ;-)

    (a) the cats are NOT for the taking …and I DOUBT that Lucy could destroy ms Coco – she’s one pretty tough cookie!
    (b) Siberians are TRULY HYPOALLERGENIC for anyone who has allergy issues keeping them from getting kitties
    (c) we did have a sensational time, and the sea silk is sold at http://www.knittycity.com -just e-mail Pearl at pearlchin@aol.com if you want any of it (please mention my name if you want some extra added attention)
    - and
    (d) it was the best weekend I could have asked for in a long time … and Froggy also approved!
    (e) I guess I’ll have to do another blog entry – oh well …

  38. How wonderful, to end up with exactly what you wanted! Looks great!

  39. Well, putting aside that comment about my sweet denim feeling like string (okay, it does feel like string, but is that a PROBLEM?), what a nice sweater! We can have a p.j. party in our comfy denims.

I got to the Sea Silk afore ye but I see there was still some left. As a sock knitter, how are the needles? I like the tin and am wondering about the needles for sock-knitting giftees.

Congrats, speedy denim sistah! xox Kay

  42. Princess in Denim Sweater! You say ‘it feels like string’ as if that’s a problem or something. You are going to love it like your most favorite p.j.s. I am wearing mine right now (I am all about accelerating the fade).

Glad you enjoyed your stealth visit! I got to the Sea Silk just days before you; I’m glad there was still some left. xox Kay

  43. I love your sweater, Wendy — it looks so snuggly and comfortable. And I love the idea of knitting it with denim. Perhaps I’ll do something similar for my very first sweater. I need to get me a copy of Sweater Wizard, though. I already have Sock Wizard.

I’m so envious of your NYC yarn crawl, and that you got to fondle some Handmaiden! Nice haul! :-)

  44. I’m not stalking you. My connection is working r.e.a.l. s.l.o.w. Sorry! Delete excess verbiage! xoxo Kay

  45. M-U-S-T………G-E-T………S-E-A………S-I-L-K!!!

  46. Nice haul. Beautiful sweater. Cute kitten. In a hurry, must run.

  47. The sweater is great! Does it feel like comfy denim after being washed?

How did you resist stealing Coco??!

  48. Love the denim sweater!

  49. Denim sweater looks totally confy and nice on you!! I like that kind of simple garment but true, it is boring to knit…anyway, conglats and I LOVE your sweater especially on you!

  50. The sweater is lovely!! Someday I’ll acomplish a sweater. (fingers crossed)

    and KITTY!!!!!! :)

  51. Very sharp and comfy looking sweater, worth every minute of string knitting :)

  52. That denim sweater looks so comfortable and cosy. Thumbs up!

  53. Ann Carpenteer says:

How did you ever get home without slipping that darling kitten into your knitting bag? I just know she would have been quiet as a mouse until you got to DC! She is a doll but not QUITE as cute as a Lucy. Like I said before, I have a weakness for pointed cats since I used to breed them. I love their talky nature. Oh yes, the sweater is lovely too.
    Ann in Dallas, Texas

  54. Yoour Denim Sweater looks great, makes all the boring knitting worthwhile when you love it in the end. Very cute kitty photos too.

  55. Sweet little kitties! The sweater looks amazing by the way, very comfy.

I’m amazed at your restraint! I think I would have passed out at the sight of all that yarn…

  56. Denim Sweater shows how much experienced knitter you are! I could not imazine myself knitting by such a small gauge until I see your sweater today. I think I want to challenge now, but maybe after taking CIA exam next May….

By the way,I got the Lucy calendar today! It was more handy than I thought so that I am going to bring it to my office to make people smile and laugh, especially with the September photo.

  57. Hey, how’d that lottery thing work for you?

The sweater looks so scrumptiously comfortable … a perfect sweater in my mind. Cute kitty shots too!

We had a great weekend too, and I bought a teeny bit of yarn.

    ~firefly

  58. Wendy, it’s all great. Love the yarn (esp. the seasilk colorway). Love the kitties. (Are Siberians related at all to Maine Coons?) Love the sweater. And finally, LOVE the holiday avatar! Happy Halloween!

  59. Aw, go ahead and get another kitty — check out stumblingoverchaos.com to see how her big, big kitty took to the new one.

String-like or not, I may HAVE to knit me a denim sweater. It’s just like making, um, 37 warshcloths, right?

  60. I want the pattern. I can never find sweaters that are long enough on my ‘womanly’ long waisted frame. Could you share your source?

  61. I can’t wait to see your comments on Step. I just started my third pair. I am not thrilled with the colors, but the texture makes up for it. I wish they made dark solids, though; my husband would like them better. BTW, I bought Step an a NYC shop (Point, on Bedford in Greenwich Village) for $9.50, about 1/2 what I’ve paid for it at a Florida LYS. Happy Halloween!

  62. My kitty Puma does not tolerate any other cats near her (or near to me). She thinks this is her house, and only her house, and no other cats are allowed. Selfish little minx. I’m sure Lucy is not so self-centered! Your sweater is gorgeous.

  63. With her paws over her face, Lucy looks like she’s sleeping off a hangover.
    The sweater is great.
I’m an inch into a pair of Step socks for my DH. I’m drinking the kool-aid on the Aloe keeping his feet soft, but haven’t noticed it helping my fingers. Puppies will probably love them, but the puppies are freaky about yarn and lotion.

  64. i like the sweater
and i will take coco too if you know someone doesnt want to keep him. he is too cute.
    and lucy looks very distraught

  65. i know cats that are even more helpful then Coco. they play with the yarn as you cast on or knit, though so far the ones i have known to do that grow out of it.

  66. i know cats that are even more helpful then Coco. they play with the yarn as you cast on or knit, though so far the ones i have known to do that grow out of it.

  67. Is there supposed to be a photo of your yarn haul? I’d love to see the Sea Silk colors. Is the photo something that my browser ActiveX settings might block?

  68. Cyndy White says:

My mother’s maiden name is Peacock and I am trying to locate a crochet patter to make a scarf and a shawl and an afghan. Can someone PLEASE provide the Peacock Feathers Crochet patterns? I have diligently looked and looked and looked and looked all over the net for a free pattern and am at a total loss. I see beautiful pictures of the lovely works of others but no patterns. Please if someone would be so kind to email me the pattern I will be greatly appreciative. Thank you, Cyndy

  69. do you think that the love of kitties and the love of knitting go hand in hand???
