My current work in progress:

1. Thistle and Heather Socks (my own design), knit from MacKintosh Iona in the "Maude" colorway, on 2mm needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Sunday

Lucy says thank you for all the birthday wishes! She had a wonderful day — she got a new toy and had poached chicken for dinner.

After dinner she arranged some of her old toys in a formation that no doubt means something to her.

And then she had a nice nap in her Daddy’s lap.

I spent most of the weekend working on a stealth project, but I did do a little work on the Garden Party shawl.

And I think I’ll start a pair of socks as well. Remember the story about the shoemaker’s children  who had to go barefoot?

Happy Birthday – Lucy. Tell your mommy she needs a new pair of socks, pronto!

I think Lucy was trying to send a message with her toys: Rose! Yes! ;-)
    Tell her, I hope so!

  3. Marji

I just finished my first sock. I’m so pleased you would think I had invented the process.

Certainly out of all the pairs of socks you made last summer ONE pair should find a home on your feet! :-)

Lucy looks like a happy kitty! My cats do the same thing – I find toys strewn all over the floor, on the bed, on our dining room table, in various configurations! Oftentimes Yoda falls asleep with his nose on a catnip sock, mouse, etc. ;-)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm a stealth project! Am looking forward 2 C’ing that !!
    Luv.m.

    Lucy,
I am sure your arrangement of your toys is a secret code we humans are too dim to understand, as I understand cats are the superior species.

Can’t wait to see some socks!

Every time I see a new picture of your shawl, I love the color of the yarn more than in the one before. :-)

    Hej Wendy!

Lucy´s probably trying to show you that she´d love a little friend
to share her toys with. ;-)

Just wondering… Does Lucy color-coordinate ALL her toys?

  11. Ellen

Just out of curiousity, why DOESN’T Lucy have a sibling? I always have 2 cats at a time – I Iike to think they enjoy each other, but the truth is that I enjoy having 2 around!

  12. Sarah

I personally think that Lucy’s toys are supposed to be a message…

A message that says, “So long… and thanks for all the fish.”

  13. Debi

Maybe Lucy’s toys are the kitty equivalent of crop circles :)

You must have a drawer FULL of socks without A/C Wendy! That hole is just pitiful!

Stealh project? Sounds more like you are a secret agent…jk. But, seriously. Will we even see your “stealth project”?

    Hi Wendy,

Your poor feet! At least you’ve go plenty of socks to keep them warm.

I need some help and advice please. I’m just attempting my first pair of socks and have encountered a problem at the heel stage – my arches are rather high and having turned the heel I can’t get my foot in. Now, I know I could increase the stitches for the leg slightly to get some more ease but please do you have any suggestions for increasing the room for my foot to get through? Would making the heel flap longer be a solution? Sorry to be thick as I’m sure there’s a solution out there somewhere and you seem to know everything about sock knitting! It’s a top down sock and I’ve stuck a photo on my blog.

Any advice would be most gratefully received. Thanks.

Has anyone seen the video on Animal Planet of the dog who arranges his toys in geometrical patterns– covering his whole backyard? Unfortunately the dog can’t tell us why….

None of my cats cared much for store-bought cat toys. My current feline companion loves wadded up paper, baggie ties (especially the long ones that come with electronics, the tear-open cardboard strips that are used to open priority mail boxes, and string pulled quickly across the floor. His new favorite is tissue paper, the kind you wrap gifts in. He likes to sit on it, lie down on it, whatever. Seems to love the crinkly sound it makes.

hehehe – thanks for sharing a picture of the holes in your toes. It makes us all feel a little more human. That was a great quote to tie it all together.

That toe poking through crackes me up, coming from you of all people! Well I am glad to know that I am not the only one who wears ratty socks when I have perfectly good ones available. :>) Belated warm wishes to Miss Lucy.

Aw Lucy, sounds like you were well taken care of on your day :) Sock Maker, warm thy feeties!

I’m sorry I missed wishing Lucy a happy birthday. She clearly had a wonderful day–lucky girl. I think she shows signs of brilliance at arranging her toys in such a color-coordinated manner–yellow/blue/yellow/blue/yellow, etc. And they say cats/dogs can’t see color. Pshaw!
