My current work in progress:

1. Woodfords, designed by Elizabeth Doherty, knit from Madelinetosh Merino Light in the "paper" colorway on U.S. size 3, 5, and 7 needles.

Heads Up! It’s New Shawl Tuesday!

Thanks for all the nice comments on my Agatha Shawl. I’m pretty pleased with it myself.

Last night I wound the first skein of my Dream in Color “Punky Fuschia” yarn and started a new shawl.

Here is my progress thus far:

I’m using a 3.75mm needle for this, and I am using an Addi Lace needle this time. It was within reach, you see. icon wink Heads Up! Its New Shawl Tuesday!

I worked up the pattern myself, based on the basic shaping of the Agatha shawl. I really like the more-than-a-triangle shape. It sits on my shoulders very nicely without threatening to slide off.

The lace pattern itself is sort of a diamond motif, with a bunch of crap in the middle of each diamond. I’m doing double yarn-overs in this pattern, which makes bigger holes, of course. (On the wrong side you purl 1, knit 1 over the 2 yarn-overs in order to maintain the two separate stitches.)

Lucy’s Toy

A couple of you asked what Lucy’s toy is called and where to get it.

The toy is readily available at most drug stores. It’s a Hartz “Birds of a Teather” toy. Here’s the product detail: http://www.hartz.com/Our%20Products/browse.asp?SkuDetail=3270002223&ActionID=2

Comments

  1. Wendy, I can tell already that this is going to be gorgeous!

  2. Ooh; this shawl looks great so far! I can’t wait to see it as it progresses!!

  3. anne marie in philly says:

steven says: “I like to curl up on my daddy’s legs!”

meredith says: “I am NOT a lap cat!”

we send our purrs to cousin lucy!

  4. Can’t wait to hear the name of the “Punky-Fuchsia-Diamonds-With-Crap-In-The-Middle-More-Than-Half-A-Square” Shawl!
Or are you going to solicit ideas for that one?
    ;-)

  5. i just ordered my first skein of dream in color yarn last night. i’m so excited to get it!

also, crap in the middle? love it.

  6. “a bunch of crap”

    Is that a technical term?

You are an enabler. My Agatha is about 350 yds in. I keep making the ill-advised attempt of knitting late at night and, therefore, have been ripping one row for every five I knit. Must put child to bed earlier to knit more!

  7. Oh ! A new shawl! Too lovely! And so is kitty! Both our cats are lap kitties – well, when they want to be! We call Yoda “the crusher” because he’s huge and loves to lie on legs. It doesn’t take too long before you have no feeling below your knees! :-) luv.m.

  8. “…diamonds with crap in the middle…” You made me smile; thanks.

  9. “with a bunch of crap in the middle…” HAHA! Love your way of thinking.

Beautiful shawls, as always – I really loved Agatha!

Great shot of Lucy today, in particular!

  10. I’m stealing a compliment from my girlfriend to give to you: “I wanna be you when I grow up!” Your shawls are just amazing and inspiring :-)

  11. How on earth do knit shawls so fast??? You rock! Cute pic of Lucy.

  12. Theresa in Italy says:

Is that the official name: Diamonds-With-a-Bunch-of-Crap-in-the-Middle Shawl? I like that. I like the shawl, too. And I really like that picture of Lucy. Pretty kitty.

  13. Sannybug Says: Hi Lucy, I too love to lie on my mommys lap….and put her legs to sleep bwahahahaha.
The rest of the critters say Sannybug is evil kitty, LOL.
The shawl is gonna be lovely I cant wait to see it finished! You gonna show us a closeup of the “Crap” in the diamonds?
    Have A Nice Day!

  14. Hi Wendy,
I am wondering if you ever met a cotton yarn you liked?

  15. I’m on my third shawl with similar shaping. It’s the only thing I’ve ever knit three times. I love the way it curves around as part of the design.

  16. My Buster loves to lie on my lap too, but he is a 65 lb. pit bull! He’s a chunk.

I love the shawl. I’m anxious to see the shawl with crap in the middle of the diamond.

  17. My gosh, the Agatha shawl is breathtaking (nice to get a peak at your sweet face yesterday too!) and the new shawl stitches look very, very pretty. You have an affinity for colors very similar to those my sister chooses. And, your face reminds me quite a lot of my sister, who I miss terribly (she is in California and I in NY).

Well, I better be off before I get too misty eyed.

Love your work, as always …

  18. Ann in CT says:

Hartz is wondering why sales of a certain cat toy have spiked again.
The Dream in Color people probably know.

  19. Beautiful start, I love the color. I’m making a skirt at the moment that’s similar in color. I’m very fond of the jewel tones at the moment.

  20. LOVE that color… you have inspired me to try my hand at knitting a lace shawl, well as soon as I finish the 2 pairs of socks in progress, the cardigan for grandaughter, the “tilted boxes scarf” — actually only 4 UFOs???? what’s wrong with me.. I’m going to cast on that shawl as soon as I get home!

  21. Marianne Y says:

I love your Agatha shawl! It is just gorgeous, and I love the Blue Lagoon colorway, too!

I have to agree somewhat, on the Daylight Savings Time. I have have a teenager, who has more than a full load at school with his 7 honors and advanced- level classes this semester). And, he plays in too many music organizations, among other things. Can we say he is over-committed? Couple that with not organizing his time well, to begin with, and we have a mom and a son who don’t get enough sleep on any night, much less DST switchover time! Sigh! So, I am exhausted, too!

But, the good part of DST is that we get an extra hour of daylight in the evenings, after school, so we don’t have to go out in the dark for evening meetings, etc. That is the silver lining in the DST story. (At least until you get to the point that my teenager decides that he wants to spend some time outside for a bit, to get some fresh air, or as an added distraction, before he starts his homework. :-)

  22. Nice buns, Rose!

Nice diamonds with crap in the middle, Wendy.

Sorry about the migraine. I have been having good luck with Migraten.
