My current work in progress:

1. Mighty Mini, designed by Rachel Henry, knit from Socks That Rock Worthy in the "Tanzanite" and "The Green That Sings" colorways on a 3.0 mm needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

I Don’t Usually Do This Sort of Thing . . .

But my creativity is at low ebb ad I don’t have much to blog about. Also, I’m exhausted from the day-long hissy fit I threw yesterday with our IT people. I do believe that the hissy fit qualifies as both Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength for Festivus. Kind of like a two-fer.

Cindy tagged me for the Peeps I Want To Know More About meme.

1. What was I doing ten years ago?

  1. Hee! Gryphon (of Sanguine Gryphon) got me with that one… my answers are here!

CraftyGryphons last blog post..It’s not all about the socks. Really.

  2. Just wanted to comment on you being from Worcester, my old neck of the woods. I went to high school and college in MA and now live in Arlington. My sister lived in Worcester while she went to UMass med school and still lives nearby.
Love your posts, I read them all the time. I aspire to sock knitting, but am still working my way there. When I do start (and I have sock yarn, wolmeise I got in a swap) I want to do toe up. It seems like the most logical way to go.

  8. I peeked into Ravelry this morning, saw two ladies in the Wendy group chattering about the update, flew in to TLE, opened my account (never purchased there before but now that I actually am knitting SOCKS! gotta’ get some of my favorite Wendy patterns) and scored three :) Life can be good.

10 years ago I was working in the engineering & h/r depts at a now-closed paper mill and was thinking of leaving the husband (did in 1999 but came back 1/2000 – he’s much better now thank you).

We visited friends in Falls Church VA one Easter weekend. We went on the train from Hartford CT, it was exceptionally hot for Easter , the a/c on the train down was broken, the a/c in their new condo was without compressor and the ride back was stalled with two breakdowns. Memorable and my only trip to that part of the country…

Back to the double eyelet rib sock! It’s just so darn much fun! I don’t know why they’re so much better now but can only link it to mastering Judy’s magic cast on and finding you had heels that are not short row. Someday I will figure out wrapping short rows, in the meantime…

  9. I really love how those socks are coming out. Really cool! Like the Koolhaas hat, but in a sock!

  10. Ordered my Costa pattern today and can’t wait ’til twisty bits is available. Hmmm, I guess that sounds a bit pushy and naggy. Sorry! :-)

  21. 10 years ago – My youngest of four sons was 15 and the oldest was 22. I was the principal of a small Catholic elementary school in Columbus, Ohio trying to earn enough money to pay everyone’s tuition and still have enough money left over for groceries. I was still in my forties and did not need to color my hair nearly as often as I do nowadays. My hobbies were quilting and cross stitching – no knitting and tinking for me.

Department store clerk; chamber maid for a Travelodge motel; middle school teacher; director of a teacher resource center; babysitter; 4th & 5th grade teacher; principal

    Snacks I enjoy:
Popcorn lightly salted with plenty of butter; crackers and cheese or peanut butter; guilty secret snack….handfuls of chocolate chips straight from the bag

Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Buy original art to enjoy in my home; live in a house that looked out onto the ocean; travel to wherever I wanted ,whenever the notion struck me, and take along any of my friends or family who might want to join me; pay for the education of all my grandchildren; fund research for cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, and heart disease; go to concerts and theater performances; grant one wish (that money could buy) for every person I know; get my bum liposuctioned, my tummy tucked, by varicose veins stripped, my nose bobbed, my liver spots bleached, my teeth whitened, my boobs reduced, and all stray hairs permanently removed.

  29. I really enjoy your site and your projects. I am now finishing my projects before starting new ones thanks to your good example!

I have a question re sock knitting. I’ve made a few pairs now, but have not worn them yet. All of them have been made with luscious sock yarn which is 100% merino. I’ve never heard you mention using reinforcement yarn at the heel or toe. Wendy, what has been your experience with the longevity of the heels of socks made of 100% merino? No, I certainly won’t wear them for heavy duty stuff, but I was just curious what your experience has been!

    thanks!
