A New Week

I am pleased to welcome a new week because last week was not a stellar one. After what I suspect was a case of salmonella, intense heat and humidity, work and computer issues, power outages and fires in DC, and a cable outage for me at home, I’m hoping for a calmer week ahead!

What I did this weekend:

I Plurked:

plurk061508 240x186 A New Week

I started a new sock:

lucyandnanners061508 240x160 A New Week

This is the first Nanner sock, a pattern I designed for my Plurk-buds and me. You kinda sorta have to be on Plurk to understand the significance of nanners (bananas), so I won’t bore you with the story here. But it is an easy lace pattern that I’m knitting in Dream in Color Smooshy sock yarn in the Butter Peeps colorway on 2mm needles.

Because it is easy lace, I do not need Golden Boy to keep track of my rows, so he is resting quietly.

I was startled by a Freddy Krueger-like character last night:

scary061508 240x199 A New Week

And that pretty much sums things up!

Lucy sez:

lucy061508 240x192 A New Week

“Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!”

Comments

  1. What’s even scarier are the eyes looking over Freddy’s shoulder!

  2. He’s more Jason or Michael Myers than Freddie.
Love those nanner socks. Now I really wish I could have found Smooshy like that

  3. Oh my. I generally like Sponge Bob, but he’s kind of creeping me out now.
I also hope your new week is boring with nothing but calm seas ahead (and knitting).
    Go nanners!

  4. It’s be interesting to see the completed socks; they look a fair amount like Pomatomus, which I loved in theory and hated off my own needles. And thought, the whole time, that if I’d just made them toe-up perhaps they’d have been that much better…

I LOVE those new socks. I’m anxious for that pattern to be available!

Here’s to a much better week ahead. Dealing with even one of those issues would be awful–the heat and humidity alone would get me!

What a lovely photo of Lucy and her Daddy. Happy Father’s Day to the KOARC!

  8. That pattern is very similar to Pomatomus. Love the color though.

Yes, I can see the bananas. And when you said bananas, I thought, butter peeps! I’m eager to see how they turn out. And I foresee more yarn in my future!

  10. Oh I adore the nanner sock! They really do look like nanners. Bee-yoo-tee-ful.

    Plurk on my friend!

  11. Those of you who think this sock looks like Pomatomus — go look at the Pomatomus pattern again — the only similarity is that the pattern slants. Mine are a much, much simpler pattern and different stitches.

  12. Could you please send me the pattern? Thanks!!!!!

  13. I hope you have a better week. We had the code red/code orange thing going here due to wildfire in eastern part of state. Smoke so thick here that it looked like fog. My boss will be back tomorrow which means I’ll get to do my work this week instead of answering the phone which I hate. Hope you’re feeling better. I loved the picture of Lucy with “Daddy’s” hand.

  14. Oh, I do hope your week is quieter! I hate those weeks.

I second (or fifteenth) the love of the nanner socks. Might the pattern at some point become available for non-Plurkers? (she asked wistfully)

    DianeSs last blog post..????!!!!

  15. yes, please I’d love the NOT pomotamus sock pattern too. And thanks for turning us on to Plurk, yee cowz I did not need yet another fun time sink!

  16. Well, since I broke free of the dail up this weekend with a Broadband air card I guess I’ll have to spend a bit of time on Plurk so I can score those neat socks. I’m still plugging away on those double eyelet ribs I started about a month ago – been taking some time away from the needles and reading for a change. Now, with the broadband (average download 672 Mbs yeeeehawww!) I guess I’ll be able to plurk with the big girls AND take down pod casts and audio books to listen to while knitting :)
I know that’s not much to those of you with real broadband, but I was average 50mbs with dial up so this is a major improvement :)

Ian has too much time on his hands to come up with outfits like that :)

WHAT is the KOARC going to think of next? tee hee! :-)

steven says: “hope you spent hours sitting on daddy’s lap like I did, lucy! daddy says that is the best present he could ever hope to receive!”

meredith says: “I just meowed my head off and daddy gave me treats all day!”

  18. I LOVE the Nanner sock. If you knit one Nanner toe up and the other top down, will they be mirror images of each other? Just asking. I have symmetry issues…

  19. “Delivery” – I didn’t order anything.
“Errr….. CandyGram” – No thank you.

“Ummm… Land Shark” — Oh, well then, C’mon in!

For some reason – this photo of KOARC makes me think of the old SNL skit.

I’m with ya regarding last week. Could it have anything to do with it ending on Friday the 13th? I’m not superstitious, but geez, what a crap week! Here’s hoping to a better week for all of us!

  21. I like the sock! Sorry about your bad week hopefully its all behind you now.

  22. Happy Fathers Day to the KOARC!! Did you take good care of your daddy Miss Lucy?
Sannybug, Charlie, Bligh and KooKoo all say we wish daddy had been here instead of working on the Funeral Home this weekend :-(
I too thought the sock looked like Pomatomus untill I had a second closer look at them, they look like they would be much easier to do and even like little bananas LOL :-)

  23. Did Lucy give her Daddy a can of Wildside Salmon? :-) The new socks are very a-peeling. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Wish me luck-I have to whip up a sweater this week for a baby shower! I’m doing EZ’s February baby sweater in Mission Falls cotton. I was going to use Dream in Color, but the family lives in AZ and I thought the cotton might be a cooler choice. Glad to hear you are on the mend!

  24. I like the nanner socks. Can I get a pattern? I’m one of your friends on plurk.

  25. Love the nanners! Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to have you post the pattern here? I’m having enough trouble keeping up with Ravelry! That Butter Peeps is really nice, I have some Dusky Aurora maybe I’ll have to start on.

  26. Denise in Kent, WA says:

I still think that “Plurk” sounds like something the cat does after eating too fast, but I’m glad you’re having fun with it. Hope this week goes much better for you! :)

  27. Well, my karma continues to go up. I hope I get a dancing nanner soon! I’m a bit worried, though, since I won’t be home all evening. Guess I’ll have to try harder tomorrow! Is it too late to get a pattern? Or does that come once you reach dancing banana stage?!
