Random Things

Random Thing 1

Check out this purse organizer.

I purchased this from Purse Pleaser. This is the best organizer that I’ve come across — at least for my purposes. It comes in three different sizes and is sort of like those acrylic cosmetic organizers with all the compartments. One of the cool things about it is that it is adjustable. I like also that it is sturdy and has a flat base. It doesn’t flop over like the fabric organizers do.

I recently incorporated my small wallet, credit card case, and checkbook into one big-*ss wallet.

While this wallet does not fit in any of the compartments of the purse organizer, there is plenty of room in my purse to slip it along-side the organizer in my purse. (The wallet is made by Lodis, by the way, and is the best multi-function wallet I’ve ever had. It manages to hold a whole boatload of stuff while maintaining a slim profile.)

Random Thing 2

Mia commented about the Cleite shawl pattern:

. . . before I go and buy the pattern.. can you rate the difficulty level? And the other all important question, is it ONLY chart instructions?

I would say the difficulty level is advanced beginner or intermediate. This is not a tough pattern, and it is very clearly written. And for those of you who do not like charts, it is also written out line by line! What’s not to like?

While I think it is a fairly easy-to-knit pattern, I am not finding it boring. It’s quite an enjoyable knit, and the resulting lace is so pretty that adds to the enjoyment!

Slowly she grows, millimeter by millimeter . . .

Random Thing 3

While Lucy would like you to think that she is missing her cardboard box and would like you to pity her, don’t believe her. She spent a blissful half-hour playing in the box and then suddenly turned against it and for the next 24 hours pretended it did not exist. After 24 hours, I threw it away. She does not seem to have noticed.

And here we have . . .

  1. With each millimeter, I like that shawl more.

  2. Ida took the words right out of my mouth!

  3. That is one beautiful shawl! Any part of Lucy is beautiful too! luv.m.

  4. I love that you share your random stuff with us… it’s almost like going out to coffee with a friend who says “Hey, look at my new wallet – it’s a big **s wallet, but it holds my stuff”. I also enjoy the totebag organizer. I have a personal joke with my friends that I am my own 2 year-old. I have my regular adult wallet, cell phone, etc. and then I have my activity bag that holds knitting, a book, sudoku puzzles, and sometimes even a snack… it harks back to the diaper bag things that I used to carry around, but less organized. Have a great weekend!

I would like to kiss those kitty lips!

steven says: “mrow, so would I!”

  6. I was wondering what pattern you were using (must have missed that). Thanks! Especially thanks for mentioning that it is charted AND written out. I don’t know how you keep your eyes from going swimmy looking at charts.

  7. New toy syndrome. My girls stay interested in something new (1) as long as it’s visible but they can’t get it or (2) until they’ve been able to play with it for about 5 minutes, after which they’re bored.

I recently did a reorganize thing with the purse and carry around stuff. Not quite like yours, but like you, happy with the changes. I hope you continue to find yours useful and annoyance free.

  8. The boys get fixated on their toys but the girls…as soon as they have a 5 min play with it they too are satisfied. I guess Kitties are people too arent they HEHE :-)
The Shawl is looking very lovely

  9. honestly I don’t see the kitty lips.. but I believe you.. It must be my monitor. Lovely shawl, I’m seriously considering buying the pattern… cause you know, I don’t have enough patterns or projects in the wings :-)

  10. Thanks for the links. Love the shawl it is very pretty. Hope that you have a great weekend. Take care

  11. I don’t know if you did it on purpose, but the remark about your shawl growing made me immediately think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCbXl-BR-9U.
Few things are better on a sluggish afternoon than Lucy getting a pie in the face :-)

Oh, and the shawl is loverly. I am looking for an easy shawl pattern right now, so I might just have to give this one a looksee.

  12. Love the kitty lips picture. I agree with Ida on the shawl.

  13. Awwww, kitty lips! All I see in my house today is a furry back, because *someone* is angry about the visit to the V. E. T. and won’t look at me. Heh. I’m currently knitting with some baby camel and it’s *divine*, I’m wondering if it would work as a shawl. Seems a bit too thick – will have to investigate!

  14. Thanks Wendy! I knew I liked that shawl as soon as I saw it, and it’s written out line by line ya say?? I think it shall be mine. I have some fine handspun I’ve been holding on to for quite a while – it’s been waiting to claim a project and I think I’ve finally found it!

  15. That is a really cool purse organizer! I was momentarily really excited (because I really like organization), but then I remembered that my purse rarely stays upright for any length of time.

I really like the purse organizer and Lucy steals the show again.

  17. CAT LIPS!
I love ‘em. Lucy’s are adorable.
We have a black cat and a calico and the black cat has no kitty lips. (obviously he does, they just don’t stand out.) My parents had a blue point birman who passed this year who was the beginning of my obsession with cat lips. Hers stood out like Lucy’s if you got to see the underside of her face. Just so cute!

In contrast to lorien (5:35pm), my eyes go ‘swimmy’ reading written-out lace patterns! Cheers to Ms. Felton for providing *both* options! I love how Cleite looks both traditional *and* contemporary–another great combo! Is it “purl back” I hope? I still need plain return rows.

Great purse organiser! Hmm…wonder what could I use instead (graduate of the MacGyver school of purse modification)…

Oh, and Lucy lips? Mmmwhah! Big kiss.

Hope y’all have a fine weekend. Stay cool.

Thanks for the Lodis link! I need to replace my big-*ss wallet and yours looks very stylish indeed…

  22. Liz/Anyone else, if you can give/direct me to hints of following charts, I’d apprecitate it, since some of the most wonderful patterns are charted and I just have to close my eyes and turn the page. I guess my problem is with short term memory. I see something that looks like a flying seagull on a chart and have to look up what it means, then have to look up what the abbreviation means. Then I have to hold a chart about 4 inches from my nose to see if a cable is 4, 6, or 8 stitches. You guys who can read charts with no problem have my admiration!

  23. Very handsome shawl!
Idea for blog fodder – how about an oldies tour? It would be interesting to look at some of the projects you’ve done over the years, what you think of them now, would you want to make them (or something similar) again, etc.

  24. Not a comment on the post, but on the Lucy picture. I have a “No outfit is complete without cat hair” pillow, too! With 5 (!) cats at my house, that is so true…..

Kitties are so fickle. Love one day, not-so-much Love the next….. I think that’s what makes them so endearing.

  29. I  all things Lodis. Got a fabulous clutch wallet in orange croco on eBay a year or so ago – it’s awesome. I’ll have to check out the purse organizers, though I think part of my problem is that I just carry too much stuff? ;)

  30. I just ordered a Purse Pleaser . . . I hope I’m pleased.
