My current work in progress:

1. Thistle and Heather Socks (my own design), knit from MacKintosh Iona in the "Maude" colorway, on 2mm needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Love. It.

I finished my Midnight Lace Stole yesterday. Did I mention I love it?

It’s so pretty!

Gwendolyn is enjoying wearing it.

Midnight Lace Stole by Sivia Harding, knit in Handmaiden Sea Silk in the “woodland” colorway. My stole took 2.75 skeins of Sea Silk — pattern calls for 3 skeins, so it’s pretty much spot-on.

Sea Silk is sort of a heavy laceweight and is perfect for this design. It adds a bit of weight to the stole, and the drape of the silk is just fabulous. I feel like a 1930s movie star wrapped in this stole. Pity I don’t look like one.

Meanwhile, Lucy would like to show you what I’m knitting now:

Details tomorrow!

I take it you still don’t have the heat on – Gwendolyn is wearing Lismore under the stole. She and Lucy may stage a coup – better be careful ;)

    Modeling like that deserves SALMON!
Did you knit straight from the skein or do some intermixing to avoid pooling etc? Love the edging.

  15. TheSockKnitter

Sorry, I should have thought to ask this before – now that you’re all finished, would you knit another one with the beads, or was the beading painful?

    THANKS :)

the lace is beautiful. I just bought 1400 yards of a laceweight silk/wool blend yarn, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with it.

Now what is that beautiful, colorful concoction underneath the lace?

  23. Tracy

Absolutely LOVE the finished stole! Seasilk DOES have an exquisite drape – I’ll bet the stole is much more beautiful in person than the camera can catch :-)

  24. JoAnn

Gwendolyn is lucky to be wearing such beautiful knitwear. I love the colors in your stole.

  30. Mary the Digital Knitter

Wendy, you have got to quit knitting lace shawls that I then have to knit. My queue of projects is heavily influenced by your blog. I love the Sivia Harding patterns. Let me turn this around a little and suggest her Diamond Fantasy shawl to you. I’ve made two of them now, which you can see here and here if you are on Ravelry. Otherwise you can look on my blog. These go surprisingly quickly once you get in the groove.

  34. Katherine

I love, love, LOVE that stole! However, I would call it a shawl, as it seems a little too big to be called a stole. It is inspiring me to get my Diamond Fantasy shawl out of the bag in which it is languishing so that I can have something beautiful. But I don’t have time this year. Maybe next fall, when things calm down a little.
    Kudos to you!

Beautiful! When I checked the Handmaiden site to look at the colors, I never would have expected the Woodland colorway to knit up to such a subtle mix, which I like very much. But then, I’ve never seen a skein in person.

If the stole looks that gorgeous on Gwendolyn, I can only imagine how stunning it makes you look! Ready for your close up? And I’m also guessing the new project is a cowl, which by the way looks quite good on Lucy but don’t tell her.

  41. Dr. Jackie

    Absolutely gorgeous!

The miniture knitter is wearing Alice Starmore’s “Katherine Howard” from “Tudor Roses.” I really need to finish that one some day. It’s 1/2 done in the original yarns and I pooped out on it. Anyway, instead of extra points, can you weasel an Ian McShane autograph from the movie folks for me? I always liked that guy. Hope he cleaned up his potty mouth from “Deadwood.” I wonder if he had a box… :)

  58. Daniele

    The stole is fantastic!

  59. Bets

Absolutley beautiful! I loved the color so much and the look of the yarn that I ordered some from The Loopy Ewe, it arrived. What size needles do you recommend using, I want to knit a shawl with the Handmaiden I got? Thank you for any help you can give. You are an inspiration!!!
