New Sock!

Here is what I-395 looked like during rush hour this morning:

395 012009 240x160 New Sock!

This is a main route into Washington DC and it is usually packed at the time I took the photo. But there was no access to DC from Virginia today for private cars, so you can see the effect it had on the morning rush.

Thanks for all the lovely comments on the Hanging Garden Stole. Since I set it aside and didn’t work on it for over a month over the holidays, it’s particularly nice to have it completed.

Lookie here!

I started a new sock. You haven’t seen me knit a sock for a couple of months, so its about time, eh? This is knit from Tempted Yarn’s “Good Grrl” sock yarn in the “Iris” colorway. Isn’t it a lovely color? It’s such a lovely spring-like color, something I can appreciate in the depths of winter. I think I’ll call the sock design “Sign of Spring.”

  1. I love that colorway. And the design looks pretty as well. I’m thinking a nice spring green!

  2. All right–a new sock! I’m loving it already.

I’m trying to finish my Daily Sweater and a prayer shawl that were laid aside for Christmas knitting. Both have been OTN too long to suit me so I’m not going to start a new sock until one of them is finished. I’ll be casting on my first pencil pouch today so will use those as “portable” project.

  4. Great looking sock and I love the color…very crocus looking color…just peeking out of the snow…gives me hope..with way over 100 inches of snow so far spring is on everyones mind…

  5. Gee, I like the color – especially its name. Nice patterning too.

  6. It’s now 4:56 Eastern time. Your clock on the comments is off?!?

  7. There’s the Wendy I remember; knitting a sock. I’ve enjoyed seeing your stoles and sweaters, but I miss the socks. Will anxiously await to see how it patterns out . What a great color to work on during these dreary winter days.

  8. Beautiful shawl.

I like the sock too- it’s a good color for the dreary days.

The empty highway was impressive too!

  9. Kock it off. You are going to give me a complex. That is one awesome sock color and pattern.

    LOVE the empty highway.

  10. I am hitting the dyepots to make up some more ‘Iris’. Love the sock and can’t tell you how great it is to see a yarn that was at one point in my dinning/yarn room now on turning into a beautiful sock. Thanks again Wendy you are the best!!

  11. Wow. Why can’t 395 be that empty when I’m up there? Some one must have forgotten my importance ;-)

That sock is lovely! (And not just because it is purple)

I have NEVER seen I-395 that empty!

seriously, I cried during the oath. my boss shut down our office, and all 7 of us went to a nearby restaurant for lunch and to watch CNN HD TV. the photography was impressive, since I used to live in DC and have walked the national mall many times. aretha franklin still has good pipes (rock on, sistah!). barack’s speech was inspiring.

now comes the hard part – transforming america from a laughingstock into a leader again. I don’t envy our new president’s job.

  13. What a pretty start to your new sock. Are you going to make this pattern available eventually?

  14. Sign of Spring! What a wonderful thought!

  17. I love the new sock and the color. Makes me think of crocuses, especially when I live in very snowy western Michigan.

  18. Stephanie says:

I am surprised no one was using it for biking or skateboarding!!!

  19. It is just perfect for a January project-right color and pattern!

  20. A friend and I are planning on attending the festivities in Minneapolis this Saturday – maybe we’ll see you there. We may need to drive back to Iowa Saturday, but if we spend the night, we’ll be going to a “polka bar.” I haven’t been to this polka bar, but my husband went last summer, and had so much fun that he has decided to learn to play the accordian! Want to go?

  21. i can’t believe how clear 395 was this morning! unreal :)

  22. super awesome! that color is lovely! (this coming from the purple lover, what else?) Lucy is adorable! (as always!) What is that she’s sleeping on? Did her bed come in? Is that what that is? hehe.

I’m going to have to spend my money on that yarn now, you know.

  24. An empty 395 is sorta creepy. Like the world has ended or something. Fortunately, I think it’s just a new beginning.

  25. Oooh, nice sock! How odd not to see traffic! Of course, when we run out of oil, it may be typical, but for now, how odd!

  26. OOOH I really like the look of the new sock!! The colour is great. I am actually ready for Spring as it is 14 degrees in Kentucky right now!! Lucy is a sweety as always!

  27. Ooooh – prettty! Am going to try my very first socks soon, using your toe-up gusset heel pattern – keep your fingers crossed for me!

  28. 395 looks so peaceful. ;) I think the only other time I have seen it like that was at 5am on a Sunday.

  29. Splendid sock start!

  30. So happy to see the socks.

  31. That is a glorious color! It makes me think of crocus, which I have seen already this year but only in pots at the grocery store. Crocus in pots are just not the same as snowbuds in spring.
