My current work in progress:

1. Drachenfels, designed by Melanie Berg, knit from Madelintosh Pashmina in the Black Walnut, Seasalt, and Mineral colorways on a 4 mm (U.S. size 6) needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Two Heads Are Better Than One

Last week I did an interview with Deb for her Knitting Scholar site — check it out here. Thanks, Deb!

I finished a stealth project I’ve been working on so embarked on something new: a sock. I know. Shocking, isn’t it?

But this sock is special because the design is the result of a collaboration between another knitter/sock designer (Hi Sharon!) and me.

It all started when Sharon did the sock pattern for the March offering of The Loopy Ewe sock club. She consulted with me a bit on the design and we had a lot of fun emailing back and forth. So we decided to collaborate on a sock pattern. We’ve spent a few weeks emailing the charts back and forth and each of us making tweaks and changes to them. Finally this past week we have the pattern the way we like it. So here my start of “Sunflower Socks.”

I’m using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Butterscotch on 2mm needles.

I actually started out using Socks That Rock lightweight in 24 Karat. But the sucker striped, and I did not like how it looked. It obscures the pattern way too much. Here’s a look at it:

Teddy had to get in on the act and model the new sock:

And Lucy is primping in hopes that Spring will be here soon!

  10. The new website look is nice – good job. I love the sock and you were right to change the yarn. The STR is lovely but needs a different vehicle. Hi Teddy!

  11. Nice sock! And Teddy looks cute modeling it.

But now the Lucy pics at the top don’t change?

  12. Two questions, is the sunflower sock pattern going to be available in some form to us peasants? The free pattern from your book, will be in your book right? I love the color of the sunflower socks. I have been collecting golden orange sock yarn lately. The new look is great, especially the photos of Lucy at the top.

  13. LOVE the new website look – and your interview was great! I have to admit that your blog and the Yarn Harlot are the only two I’ve read on a daily basis. I even check in the days you don’t post, just in case….hey, it takes about 15 seconds. I can spare that. The Knitting Scholar may now become a 3rd regular read, although I’m beginning to need more shelves for my knitting books! Arrrgghh!

In any case, the sock is beautiful – I really like that pattern and yarn together.

  14. Love

  15. Love the new site..Nice clean lines …I’m not sure what happened above…love the new sock pattern too…

  16. Love the Sunflower sock AND the redesigned website.

  17. Wowzer! What a great new look :)

You were absolutely right about the yarn for the Sunflower Socks – this is one patterned sock I will actually look forward to knitting – and I’ll get some LL Butterscotch because I can’t see it done in anything else.

  21. Madeline says:

    Great blog layout!

  22. Hi Wendy, Love the look of your site, great job. The sock is fabulous.Love the Lorna’s Lace colorway. Perfect for the sock. It does remind me of a sunflower.

  23. Great interview! And I agree that the solid is a much better choice for such a lovely pattern. Great work!

  24. I love the new look of your blog, Wendy. I agree, the Lorna’s Laces looks so much prettier. Great pattern, too!

  31. Wendy Wicket says:

    LOVE the new look!

  32. Ooh, what a surprise to click through!

Awesome sock; perhaps it will usher spring to the North too. (Though sunflowers are the epitome of summer to me; I love ‘em.) Yes, STR is a striper for almost all their colors. But I heard rumors there may be true solids/semisolids coming out in the future.

I finally made it to Radiant Knits at the Mpls. American Swedish Institute today. And knit in the sunshine in the little sunroom on the second floor with other knitters, after seeing the exhibit. And saw your smiling face at the back of the Radiant Knits book! ;-)
I picked up a mini-kit (OK, maybe two) to knit sometime while I decide which Bohus sweater and when….not for some time, methinks. But sometime.

Nice new look! (Although I, too, miss the rotating pictures of Miss Lucy. Can’t have everything.) And really nice new sock! You’ve found the perfect yarn for it, I think. Someone better warn them over at Lorna’s Laces to start dyeing lots of Butterscotch.

  37. Danielle from SW MO says:

I like the new look as well but like many above I miss the big rotating pic of Lucy!! She is such a pretty girl and needs a BIG pic to show off in :-)

Cant wait for the new pttern and book to become available!

  38. Love the new socks. They look so summery, which is needed on a grey, cloudy day like today. Also, I really like the new blog design.

Wow – love the new site and the new sock. Amazing what a difference a yarn can make, the StR definitely didn’t look right with the striping, even though it was kind of subtle.

  41. Love the new blog design and the new sock. Thanks for the beautiful sock pattern from your upcoming book.

I like the solid yellow yarn better than the stripey one. I did read your interview with the Knitting Scholar and enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait until your new book arrives at my doorstep!

Very kewl, updated blog. Love the new look.

  43. Hey there! Wow, wow, wow! Love your new “design”. Both the blog and socks! The bolg reminds me of your book! Good job! Have a good day!

  46. I like the new look. It’s clean looking just in time for spring! For me, yellow is one of those funny colors that I can only wear for things like socks. Pretty much any bright color works on the toes, but I’m never sure about it anywhere else.

The new socks look really nice. I look forward to seeing them fully worked up.
