My current work in progress:

1. Woodfords, designed by Elizabeth Doherty, knit from Madelinetosh Merino Light in the "paper" colorway on U.S. size 3, 5, and 7 needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Thank You!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful comments and emails about Socks From the Toe Up. I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that you like the book so much!

It’s been kind of hard to concentrate on anything for the past couple of days . . . I don’t think that will come as any surprise to you.

I did manage a few rows on the Sprucey Lucy sock . . .

Charity Auction for Heifer International

A couple of days ago, I got an email from Elizabeth:

I’m a member of “FluffFactory” – an online group of artisans – mostly moms involved in making items for children and babies. We host 2 charity events each year. This event we have chosen to donate auction proceeds to Heifer International. The auctions are at the end of the month.

It’s early yet – only a few items are previewing but as the time grows near there will be MANY wonderful items for sale, including hand dyed yarns and other knit-related items.

Here’s a link to our website – I hope you will consider helping us out.

Thanks!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to meet two non-knitting friends who invited me out to celebrate my book!

Lucy sez:

“I don’t care that I wasn’t invited. I didn’t wanna go anyway.”

  1. I love that little bag! I can never have enough small bags to fit inside bigger ones. It’s my attempt at organization.
    Enjoy your dinner.

  2. Hi Wendy! I pre-ordered your book and wasn’t expecting it to arrive until this weekend – but I was pleasantly surprised to find it waiting for me this afternoon.

Thank you so much – this book is wonderful! If I wasn’t already knitting your ‘Nanner Socks’ pattern I would have cast on something new from your book!

    Thanks,
    Olivia

  5. Wendy, we should be the ones thanking you! You rock!!!

  6. OMG, catspaw prints – must obtain one.

  7. What a darling bag! Must have! Enjoy your night on the town! Lucy may pout, but she’ll get over it! My (your) book should be waiting for me at home after I get outta work! luv.m.

  8. Oh Wendy, what a great book! Mine came today and I’ve done a quick look-through. I love it. Not a pattern there I won’t knit. Patterns are all beautiful and the tips and instructions sections are things that I’ve printed out and have in a notebook that I drag out. Your book is a much more convenient method of keeping-up with these things. Thanks for writing it for us and thanks to L-B for keeping you on track.

  9. Wendy – I also pre-ordered your book from Amazon and was thrilled to find it had arrived in this afternoon’s mail. Toe-up socks are the only way I really enjoy making them, and the only way that really makes sense to me, so a huge THANK YOU for writing this book. It is truly wonderful!

  11. I got a copy of the book at lunch today. It was everything I’d hoped for!!! I can honestly say this is a book where I want to make EVERY single pattern. And THANK YOU for including multiple sizes (and the appropriate charts for each – nicely done!). While I know I can adjust sizes, it’s frustrating to look at a sock book and realize that I would have to adjust almost everything in it to make the socks fit my feet (a recent book that I would love fits that bill – I haven’t bought it because of the sizing issue). I’ve been holding off on learning toe-up socks in anticipation of your book and it was a worthwhile wait :-)

  12. I am stilling waiting for my book to arrive. I pre-order it from Crafters Choice.

I love that little bag. It is so cute.

    Give Lucy a hug.

  13. Collette says:

Have a great time! I can’t wait to get my book–Friday! Well, I guess the husband will just be hanging with the toddler until I can put it down. Good thing it’ll be the weekend! ;-)

  14. Enjoy your dinner!!! Would you believe they tried to deliver my book today and left a note for redelivery? Asshats! I’ll be out of town tomorrow!

Oh well – at least I have something special to look forward to!

  15. Got the book today and can’t wait to cast on! What a lovely collection of patterns. Thanks for all your hard work!

  16. Wendy – On tonight’s CBS News broadcast they did a story on the Susan Boyle “You Tube ” video that you mentioned on your blog yesterday. It was announced that she would be featured on the Early Show tomorrow singing from her kitchen! Apparently she is the youngest of nine children who devoted her life caring for her aging/ailing parents. She had learning issues as a child and was bullied by her schoolmates, according to the reporter. She sings karaoke at her local pub and the barkeep there said she wasn’t at all surprised by Susan’s performance. The video has had more than 6 million hits so far.

  17. Wendy, I don’t knit socks (I don’t even wear socks) but really enjoyed your first book and I love your blog. So I ordered your new book. I may never knit a single sock from it, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading it and thinking about knitting socks from the toe up. I’m really looking forward to its arrival tomorrow.

I had preordered your book from Amazon as soon as it was first mentioned. Have been anxiously waiting. Hurray…It came today. I have only had time to look thru it so far. But I must tell you. It is beautiful and the photos make me want to make each sock in the book and I probably will. Thank you for all the trouble you went to in order to share your ideas with us.

  19. my pre-ordered copy arrived today! it looks fabulous. I can’t wait to finish the stupid baby shower present I’m working on so I can try some new techniques.

    nicely done!

  20. Hey Wendy, I just picked up the book this evening after work. I’ve only skimmed a little bit at the beginning (I have a sock I’m working on and I don’t want to stop!) but I like what I see so far. I LOVE that there are flaps for page holding. A LOT. I sort of have a crush on the flaps.

Going to try to get to see you on the 18th. Try sometimes doesn’t work, though.

  21. Today I received your book. It is beautiful. I have been knitting socks from top down and with the instructions and the excellent technical drawings I am readay to begin from the toe up. There are so many I wish to try.

  22. Hi Wendy,
Your book arrived today from Amazon. It is wonderful !!! Congratulations.

    Shelley

  23. Just received your new book Wendy. Its wonderful! I started knitting socks about 1.5 years ago, prefer toe up for the same reasons you do – I hate to graft. I also hate to pick up stitches around the heel. I have been starting my toes using DPN’s (That has always been the hardest part) but plan to try the techniques in your book using two circulars. Thank you again. its beautiful! Keep writing.

  24. celebrate, celebrate…go Wendy. I received my book today..only wish it was signed by you!!! Got my reading material for tonight!!

  25. Cathy Goldman says:

I pre-ordered your book from Amazon and received it yesterday! Bravo….can’t wait to start from the toe up….but which one…hmmm guess I’ll just have to start from the begging and work my way through the book. Congratulations…..cg

  26. You have non-knitting friends??!?!! Why aren’t they converted?

  27. I won’t be able to make it to the Loopy Ewe for your class/book signing. I’m hoping to see another book trip to the midwest, but if not is there any other way that I can get a copy signed? If I shipped a book to you and included the return package/postage?

  28. Awwwww. Maybe you can bring Lucy a kitty-bag from dinner. Love that bag!

  29. That bag is super cute. :)

  31. Hi Wendy, I received your new book yesterday. It was a belated b-day gift and receiving it yesterday was a real treat! My day was rough and looking through your beautiful book (great photos!!) lifted my spirits and filled me with inspiration. I’m looking forward to mastering toe-up socks with your help. They’ve always been a challenge for me.

I’m looking forward to meeting you in person and taking one of your classes at The Loopy Ewe’s Spring Fling next week. Can’t. Wait.

  32. My copy of Socks from the Toe Up JUST came in!! I am so excited!!! I am going to Knit Happens on Saturday to meet you and just may have to buy a new skein of sock yarn just for one of your patterns!!! Thanks for an awesome book!!

  40. Yap away, Wendy. You’ve written a book filled with useful information and beautiful designs — no small feat. So many details, esp. in the pictures and how-to material, so much to keep track of for so long. It should keep you grinning and smiling for weeks to come.

  41. Thank you Wendy for posting the paw print bag! I’m glad you like it and was happy to receive many orders via your post :-). And I am enjoying your new book very much!
