My current work in progress:

1. Thistle and Heather Socks (my own design), knit from MacKintosh Iona in the "Maude" colorway, on 2mm needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Free Peace

Sock070609

In a spurt of energy, I wrote up the pattern for “A Finer Peace Socks” that I finished last week. You can find it, in pdf format, here. The pattern is also linked to from the Free Patterns page.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, I’m working on both a stealth project and my new circular shawl.

The circular shawl is my own design. I’ve flung together a number of lace motifs and we’ll see what happens when it is off the needles and stretched out, because you can’t really tell much about it in its current state, can you?

Shawl070609

I have 4 skeins of the yarn — a total of 1840 yards. I am pretty darn sure that I won’t need all of it for the shawl I’m planning, but I’d rather have too much than too little.

This yarn is really great, and this colorway has just enough variegation to be entertaining, but not enough to obscure my lace pattern.

Can’t wait to see how your circular shawl comes out Wendy! Are you planning to sell the pattern when you’re finished and satisfied with the result?

I can’t wait to see the finished shawl. I just finished my first shawl, its called Flowers, vines and hearts…I love it…got the free pattern on elann.com and used the same yarn. I can see how a person can get hooked on lace..I loved it..

Lucy is incredibly fluffy. Could you explain a little about how you chose the lace motifs you’re using? I’ve only knit lace from patterns, but would love guidelines on how to pick and combine my own. Thanks so much.

Get well soon, Wendy. I just got your book and am just about to start my first toe-up socks. It’s a very attractive book, intelligently arranged, clear pictures. I congratulate you and your editor for avoiding the overuse of special fonts and text colors and colored blocks that render many current books unreadable.

Thanks for the pattern Wendy! I really liked the Peace pattern when you first presented it, but was a little disappointed that it was heavier weight. Now it’s perfect for my knitting!

Thanks for the sock pattern! And that is a lot of innate fluffiness to embrace, Lucy (although I think our resident four-legged family member might come close).
