My current work in progress:

1. Zig-Zag Gansey, my own design, knit from Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in the "Blossom" colorway, on U.S. size 6 (4mm) needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

On the Edge

I have finished the body of my shawl.

I did an eyelet round all the way around after completing the last body chart.

At the end of the round, I cast on the stitches for the beginning of the edging, using a knitted cast-on.

And I started knitting the edging onto the shawl. Here are the first steps in a very long journey.

I think I know what I will be doing for the next few days. But I will cast on a new project tonight to take on my commute tomorrow, as this shawl is no longer terribly portable.

Lucy would like to nap, but feels the need to supervise me.

    Boy is your post timely!!

I’ve been trying to decide if it’d be easier to do a provisional cast on at the bottom of a cardigan and knit the border on later (in the same way that you are) or if I should knit the border to the specific length first and then start the cardi by picking up stitches along the side. Perhaps it really doesn’t matter which way and I’m driving myself crazy by trying to figure this out…!

    I love Lucy.

I’ve been lurking for some time now. I was so pleased to see how you cast on and started the edging for your unnamed lace project. I’m in a class where we’re learning lace and could not picture how we were going to cast on with stitches already on the circular needle and do the edging. Your picture was very timely. Thanks

Congradulations on your new book for next year! Can’t imagine where you find the time….

I love the edging, and prefer most knitted on edgings in general. It is nice having shorter rows for a while even if it feels like a million zillion of them. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished shawl!

I’m in the process of doing the edging for Girasole, and it does take a long time! Definitely now a good travel project now. That’s a pretty edging–hope to see finished pics soon!

I don’t suppose you’re raffling off the M&M’s? I’d love some chocolate right now. :-)

  20. CAT says:

The shawl is just lovely! It looks like ocean waves. The border is really pretty, but looks like it will take forever!
BTW, are you using Kollage square circulars?
