My current work in progress:

1. Segel, designed by Lea Viktoria, knit from Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply Toes in the "Draco" gradient set on a 3.5 mm (U.S. size 4) needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Bird’s Eye

Not the brand of vegetables, the lace pattern.

I finally made it to the Bird’s Eye Lace portion of the Aestlight Shawl.

Aestlight010610 240x160 Birds Eye

I would have made more progress had I not done something stupid halfway through the first repeat. As I knit I realized that the holes in the pattern weren’t lining up properly, so I had to backtrack and see where I had messed up. I’d dropped the second yarnover on one of the motifs so I was off by one stitch. I managed to repair it without having to rip back, so all’s well that ends well!

I’m trying to time the completion of this shawl to coincide with the start of the Enchanted Wood Knit-Along. I’m too lazy to read the posts in the Ravelry group, but L-B tells me that the first clue will be emailed to us just after midnight this Saturday night.

I guess I could wind up some of my yarn in preparation. icon smile Birds Eye

But at the moment I’m too distracted to even think about such mundane tasks. Look what I got today:

Book010610 240x160 Birds Eye

On preview copy of my new book Toe-Up Socks For Everybody, which is coming out on March 23rd. I am very very excited but Lucy doesn’t seem to be too concerned about it, does she?

Bonus shot — the back cover!

Lucy seems a bit more interested — I guess she likes colorwork socks better than lace.

Comments

  1. I can’t wait to get this one! I’ve got a pair from your other book on the needles as we speak!

  2. Very cool. I really like your first sock book, though I’ll admit that I mostly use it for the basics and put what I want (or not) on the socks.

  3. Looks like another beautiful book! Will be happy when March 23rd comes around!

  4. love the knitting, and congrats on the new book!!

  5. Congratulations! It looks great. I think Lucy is worried about the space it takes up on her sheepskin.

  6. Can’t wait to get the new book..both of my granddaughters are in skating so then need some warm socks…I finished a first sock last night and I already have cat and dog hair on it….

  7. Congratulations, Wendy. Can’t wait to get my copy!!!

  8. Can’t wait to see your new book. I have it pre-ordered on Amazon. Plus that is my younger daughter’s birthday…a good day for a book release.

Can’t wait for your book to come out! I just ordered a copy of your first book a few days ago. Am eagerly anticipating its arrival! =) Blessings,
    Hannah, age 12

  10. Congratulations, Wendy. Please tell us all about this new book. How’s it different from the last sock book? Are you going to show pictures of the inside? I need temptation! Thanks!

  11. YAY! I love your last book so much and this one is coming out a mere three days before my birthday. Hello 29 and sock knitting! Any thought on a book of shawls?

Give Lucy a kiss on the tip of her nose for me please!

  12. looking forward to your new book coming out!!! Lucy is just huggable!!

  13. Seeing the book is sooo exciting!!!!!

Looking forward to March 23rd to get your new book. Congratulations!

  15. Wow Wendy a new book – you amaze me at the amount of knitting you get done while working full time, teaching (traveling) on weekends and who can believe writing another book! You go girl!

I think I spend too much time looking at blogs, looking at yarn, looking at books, and certainly not enough time with the needles in my hand. I’m hoping that
seeing all your accomplishments will nudge me some!

    Congratulations on this new book.

  16. Kathy M in SE VA says:

I pre-ordered your book from Amazon as a birthday present for myself. Woo-hoo!

  17. I have the new one on order, too. And 2 on the needles from the Toes Up book . . . diamonds for my husband, and Traditional Gansey for my granddaughter.

I watched the video that explains the Bird’s Eye and it looks like fun. I bought the pattern, but I need to finish the socks before I start another shawl.

  18. March?!?!? We have to wait until March!?!? :o). You’re first book is great and I’m really looking forward to your second. Congratulations!!

  19. Congrats on the new book Wendy! Does Lucy appear in it?

I learned to knit socks by using your generic toe-up instructions….am so appreciative! That was many prs of socks ago…

  20. Yay, new book! Congratulations!

I’m still having sock performance anxiety. I can’t quite get to them. Eek.

Anyway, um, HOW can you say something tantalizing like “managed to fix it without ripping back” and not fully explain?

I’m super excited about the new book! It’s already on my Amazon wish list!

  25. Well this is very cool! I’m casting on to make my first pair of socks and I’m hoping that 2010 will be the year of many socks for me. Your book just might be something in my future! :)

  26. I like the link to the first book’s cover with the orange sock. Congrats, but this doesn’t explain the covert knitting, does it? So there’s something in the wings, too?
How do you keep it all straight?

  27. Wendy, I’m glad you didn’t shame me by finishing the Aestlight before me. I had same problem with birds-eye and had to put it down, so as not to do something crazy. Put the sharp needles down now!

As to your new book , congratulations! I can’t wait for my copy, but I really think Lucy’s nose is out of joint since , once again, she is not featured, and we all know…
“it’s all about the kitty!” More toys will be in order.

  28. Have ordered it from Amazon – this new book was a very nice surprise.

  29. Can’t wait! I swore off buying more knitting books, but yours will be an exception.

  30. That’s cool your book come out on the 23rd that is my 24th birthday. I can’t wait to see it.

  35. Excited about the new book. I hope there will be pictures of Lucy in this one.

  36. OOoooo OOooooo oooooo ooo oo, sorry for the monkey but YAY!! I have been waiting f o r e v e r for this to finally come out wootywootwoot!

  37. Oh, oh, oh! Must have. Barnes and Noble, here I come. I love ‘Socks from the Toe Up’, and know I will love this, too.
Cheers for fixing your yarn over. There’s nothing as satisfying as a fix that avoids ripping back!

  38. I probably should give in and put my glasses on – at first glance I read “asstight” shawl, oops!
    Congrats on the new book!

  39. Glad to hear your new book is coming, right around my birthday. If I start dropping hints now my husband should catch one of them and buy me your book.
I think Lucy is wondering why she isn’t on the cover.

  40. OT: Do you still love your Droid? Have you had any problems with it? I have been keeping up with it when you talk about it. Have you discovered new things about it?

  41. OMG…look at that. I can’t wait for the book to come out! You’re a fabulous designer

    .-= Aimee´s last blog ..And so it begins… =-.

  44. I have a question about the Aestlight. When you finished the center triangle, did you put the stitches on yarn as the pattern suggests, or on another circular needle? I’m thinking a circular would be flexible enough and not be in the way. I only have 440 yds, so I have to make the smaller one.
.-= Cathie Jones´s last blog ..Second Sunday Jazz Clubs =-.

  45. What do you do with all the shawls you make? If it were me, I’d wear all of them…all at the same time! They’re just too pretty not to!!!!

  46. A new book already? I’m still digesting the first (wonderful) one!

  47. If you would have had some socks for cats Lucy might have been more interested. Or even better, socks for mice, with plenty of models!

    Congratulations on the book!

  48. I got my Enchanted Wood yarn and beads yesterday (I signed up really late and was prepared to start late, but they came through like champs). That is some beautiful yarn, the peacock colorway in Tinsel Toes. My participation is this KAL is all your fault and this is at least the third thing you’ve inspired me to do. The Angel Wings shawl in blues and some beautiful yarn from Etsy for another triangular shawl are the first two, although I think there’s another yarn purchase to your credit as well.

Your sock books make me wish I knitted socks, not shawls. How about a lace shawl book next?

  50. Now look what you’ve done… I was just checking which shawl pattern you were making on Ravelry, then I HAD to click the ‘buy pattern’ button, then I HAD to cast on in the only skein of malabrigo I have because I just couldn’t wait, and now I’m on the birds-eye lace too. How does this happen?!! ;-)
