My current work in progress:

1. Drachenfels, designed by Melanie Berg, knit from Madelintosh Pashmina in the Black Walnut, Seasalt, and Mineral colorways on a 4 mm (U.S. size 6) needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

The Seaside Shawlette

The pattern for the Seaside Shawlette is now available for sale on Ravelry, here.

SeasideMannequi0131110 201x240 The Seaside Shawlette

This shawlette can be knit from one 100-gram skein of sock yarn and when blocked measures approximately 56” across the top (wingspan) and 25” down the center back.

SeasideCloseup013110 240x160 The Seaside Shawlette

This pattern is perfect for a beginner knitter who wants to knit lace. The pattern is written in great detail and spells out everything you need to know. The lace is charted in 4 relatively simple charts that are easy to follow.

SesideTied013110 240x225 The Seaside Shawlette

It is knit from fingering rather than laceweight yarn, which is much easier for a lace newbie to execute. The stitches used are knit and purl, and a few simple lace techniques – yarnover, knit 2 together, and ssk, and sl1 k2tog, psso (which are explained in the pattern).

And now I’m working on another shawlette, this one yet to be named.

WIP020210 240x160 The Seaside Shawlette

The yarn is Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in the “Oak B” colorway, on a U.S. size 6 needle.

Lucy is working on her nap technique.

  1. BEEautiful!

Thanks for providing the pic of the start of the next-I wondered how this is done, and see by the circ’s it’s on 2 circs?

I’d love to take on a challenge like this!

  2. It’s hard to tell that’s even a cat! :)

  5. The pic of the new shawlette looks like a giant leaf. very pretty.

  6. Love the shawl! It’s gorgeous. After I knit the Argus, I may go for this one.

Anyway, I give Lucy’s technique a 9.5. I’m not sure she’s quite at 10 yet. Give her a few more training sessions and I think she’ll be there…

  7. I studied the colour on Loopy Ewe and had figure out Oak A or B . That means my monitor must be pretty close to the correct. I just loved that colour. AH!! Lucy is a cutie as always. All my kitties have been paracticing their sleep habits since it is pretty chilly here.

  8. My mum was admiring a lace shawl in a gift shop a few weeks ago and I knew then I should make her one for her birthday (May). This one looks gorgeous and I’m sure she’d love it … and for a 100gram ball it looks great.

  9. I love the Oak B color. There is always a magical transformation when you block
your shawlettes; right now, this looks sort of like a trilobite! (smile here). I am looking forward to the metamorphosis. Lucy is adorable.

  10. Lucy’s very good at it! I just friended you on Ravelry, btw.

  11. That is a very lovely shawl. Would it be difficult to make it a little bigger (say 60-65″ across the top)?

  12. I love to see kittehs standing on their heads when they nap…

  13. Great, I’ve been looking for a starter shawl, I’ll check out the Seaside shawlette. The new shawl looks like a banana leaf to me. I’m curious what it will look like all stretched out.

  14. I am soooo tempted to try your shawlette even though I have never succeeded with lace.

As a beginning spinner, I wondered if you still spin?
