My current work in progress:

1. Drachenfels, designed by Melanie Berg, knit from Madelintosh Pashmina in the Black Walnut, Seasalt, and Mineral colorways on a 4 mm (U.S. size 6) needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Suspense

I’m fairly close to the finish of my current shawlette and I gotta tell you — the suspense is killing me.

Because I am far too lazy and impatient to do anything like actually swatch out the lace before starting work on it, I’ve been designing it on the fly. In fact, the last two charts of the pattern underwent a significant overhaul after I worked a couple of rows and just wasn’t feeling the love.

This is a more-than-a-triangle shawlette and I’m still planning to keep the yarn requirements down to one skein of sock yarn, so it will be wider but not as deep as the previous two I just completed.

I love the yarn — MadelineTosh Tosh Sock in the “Oak B” colorway. It may look brown in photos, but in real life it’s sort of a browny-olive-greeny mix. Very nice!

Comments

  1. I love the colour! I’m knitting Six-pack socks from Sanguine Gryphon Eidos in Tethrippon and it looks almost identical in real life to what your yarn looks like on my screen, does that make sense?

  2. Few things are as pretty as Lucy’s colorway!

I was admiring that yarn online the other day. It’s even prettier here.

  3. If I could find Lucy’s colorway, I’d use it for everything! The new shawlette is looking very interesting! I’m glad to find that I’m not the only one too lazy to do a swatch! This one may move ahead of the others on my to-do list.

I agree with Cathie – Lucy’s colorway is perfect. I also like the look of the new shawlette, it’s something I can see wearing. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

    I second lucy!

  6. Is anything as pretty as Lucy’s colorway? I think not :)

  7. Sorry, Madeline Tosh, I have to agree with Lucy on the colorway question ;^)

  9. Attention Indie Dyers: We _need_ a Lucy colorway! That would be a gorgeous yarn to knit with….and I feel sure she would appreciate the tribute as merely her due.

  10. You should design a shawl in Lucy’s colorway.

I think that would be lovely. Shades of brown, cream and blue? Perfect.

  11. Lucy, dear, no colorway is as pretty as yours! You are just a little dollbaby. Your mama’s new shawl is as always gorgeous. I am anxious to buy the pattern because I like the idea of less depth and more width. I am short so it might be just the perfect size for me. And using one skein of sock yarn…a win-win. Thanks Wendy! Hope you back is feeling better.

  12. Your shawlette is looking gorgeous. Do you have a name in mind?

  13. A “very Wendy” color I’d say! Love it….can’t wait to see the finished product.

  14. While that yarn is quite nice, Lucy is absolutely right!! (Didn’t STR have a “Lucy” colorway some time ago?)

  15. Kathy Sue says:

Doesn’t someone already do a Lucy colorway, Wendy? I know I have seen it in my online wandering. And yes, it was beautiful!! I am using a Dream in Color color called Strange Harvest which is a little darker than your shawl, but rich and mysterious like yours. I am doing a Norweigian pattern called Kellokukka–some kind of flower, but to me it looks like candles that you put on the Christmas tree! Hope the back is improving.

  16. Theresa in Italy says:

Oh goody! I love more-than-a-triangle shawls. Will be looking forward to this one. I have to agree with Lucy about her colorway, although that MadelineTosh is really lovely.

  17. I like Lucy’s colorway, too. The divine Miss K’s colorway is similar, as she is champagne mink (like chocolate point Siamese) Tonkinese colorway. Not floofy, but smoooth.

  18. You are soo beatiful, miss Lucy!!!!
Meow from Sissela Forrestcat to Ms Lucy!!!!

  19. Very pretty design, and I love the color … just my cup o’ tea!

Hope you and Lucy are staying warm and cozy this stormy weekend.

    Warm wishes,

  20. By jingo, you all are right: there already IS a Lucy colorway. It’s indeed “Socks that Rock”, here:
    Love, love, love!
