My current work in progress:

1. Mighty Mini, designed by Rachel Henry, knit from Socks That Rock Worthy in the "Tanzanite" and "The Green That Sings" colorways on a 3.0 mm needle.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Let It Snow

We’ve got another “major snow event” blowing through here tonight and tomorrow, so once again the federal government is closed and I am at home. Snow is supposed to start . . . well . . . any minute now.

Things had better be all clear by next Monday, because I’m doing a mini-trunk show at fibre space in Alexandria, Virginia.

And here’s a good reason to stop by — they will be having a big Presidents Day sale! Here is the info, shamelessly lifted from their newsletter:

We are delighted to announce our first big President’s Day Sale!

Monday, February 15th
10 am – 7 pm
We are making room for new Spring and Summer yarns by putting many of our favorite winter fibres on sale. Discounts will be from 10% – 40%. Find sale prices on Kathmandu Tweed, Blue Sky Alpaca Bulky, Berroco Cuzco, Malabrigo Chunky, Shokay Yak and much much more. All single patterns will be 30%-40% off.

And here is the bit about me. icon smile Let It Snow

Knitwear designer Wendy Johnson will also be at the shop on President’s Day from noon – 2 pm along with a mini trunk show of her three newest shawlette designs! Meet Wendy, purchase her patterns and ask questions about the projects. Her new three designs can be worked up in only one skein of sock yarn.

Fibrespace will have copies of my one-skein shawlette patterns for sale (Argus, Seaside, and Miss Woodhouse), and I’ll be there with the original shawls for you to see, fondle, and try on. I’ll be happy to answer questions about the designs, offer my opinion (whether or not I am asked) on your yarn selections for each design, and just generally hang out to knit and chat.

Oh, and I’m betting I’ll do some shopping too.

Speaking of fibre space, the other night I signed up for fibre space’s new new Fibre Girl club. You can read about it from that link.

And I’m just sayin’ that I may or may not be providing a pattern for one of the club offerings somewhere along the way . . .

Current Knitting

I’m making good progress on the second Manly Aran sock.

The red lacy thing from yesterday’s blog? I’ll show you that tomorrow. That is, assuming I have electricity to power up the ‘puter and access the internet. We are supposed to have blizzard-force winds tonight and tomorrow, so if you don’t hear from me, you’ll know why.

Lucy is on snow watch.

  1. Bless her heart, Miss Lucy does take her job seriously! Is she ready to throw you out yet or have you been keeping in her good graces with Wild Salmon Treats?

I wish I was going to be around to come down to FibreSpace and harass one of my most favorite designers evah!!!!(hows that for sucking up?)

  3. Looks like you’re getting hit by what swept through Colorado a few days ago. Knitting makes it tolerable. Good luck!
.-= Susan´s last blog ..This is just wrong. =-.

  4. Stay safe! Here in RI the snow is also coming and of course we’re out of food. The grocery stores are mobbed right now, so I’ll wait until later to see if I can get something. Meanwhile, I’m still working on my first sock. I’m the slowest knitter in the world. *sigh*
    .-= Claudia´s last blog ..Finished =-.

  5. Snowing here in Central PA. Coming down fast and furiously. No wind yet. Hope we don’t get any. Our DC office is to be closed tomorrow because of the snow and if the state get slammed — as it is supposed to — then I hope we are closed too. Be safe.

  6. I am hoping to get to Fibre Space & see you and your lovely shawls on Monday. Our roads are still a bit of a mess, I look forward to safe driving once we shovel out of this next storm. Did you see that Knit Picks has “Toe-Up Socks for Every Body” as an upcoming release? See you soon!

  7. Ooh, I may be able to make it!! My husband and I are going to Annapolis for the weekend and I was hoping to go to Fibre Space on the way home; now we’ll have to make it there by 2!!

  8. I wish I could come down to fibrespace. I just started a project with the yarn I got there over Christmas.

    Good luck with the blizzard!

  9. Enjoy your snow day! #1 Son, who lives in NYC, forwarded me an email sent to all the students in the med school, warning them about their own snow event. #1′s comment: “8-13 inches of snow? Ohhhhhhhhh noooooooooo! That sounds just terrible.” We of the Great Frozen Tundra like to laugh at the rest of the world when it panics over a few inches of snow.

  12. Whoa. That’s a whole lotta snow goin’ on! Hopefully no lost power and you and Lucy will stay cozy. It’s raining here in SoCal, but it’s supposed to clear up by Wednesday in the p.m.

Love the manly socks and the lovely shawlettes! Stay safe and have a great trip to Fibre Space. luv.m.

  13. Julie in VA says:

Wendy I plan to come down to Fiberspace on Monday to see you if they finally get our roads clear. The snow are started again!! My back hurts just thinking about it. Enjoy another day off.

  14. Janice Donley says:

    Hello Wendy,
I just recently discovered your blog and have been enjoying the birth of your shawlettes. I’m sitting here outside of Pittsburgh anticipating and experiencing the same storm you speak of. Just hoping the weather forecasters are not as far off as they were last weekend. They predicted 6-8″ and we got 24″, so hope there 6-8″ is accurate this time. Though you might like to see the painting my daughter just posted to her blog titled, “Peace in the Storm.” It gives us something to think about when we worry about all the repercussions of snow and wind.
I keep my peace in the storm by working on my bulky winter sweater that I will finish up quickly if this weather keeps up. Then I can give one of your shawlettes a try.

  15. We got a small taste of the weather you will have. Lets just say make sure you have batteries for you flash light or like me lighted reading glasses. Thant way if you do have a power failure you can at least still read and knit. The wind here in Kentucky is freezing and very gusty putting our wind chill down to 9 degrees and the worst has not come through yet. Lucy will probably be under her sheepskin if your power go out.
I wish I lived closer. I would love to come and see your shawls and try them on. They are just gorgeous. Stay warm and sfe.

  16. enjoy these snow days for now…in 6 months you will be cursing the heat wave! smile

We would love a little snow this year, feels more like spring and has since the new year … in the 50′s, all the trees and animals are quite confused.

  17. Is your heat on?

  18. Hi Wendy, I purchased Miss Woodhouse via ravelry, I stopped by the grocery store after work to get food for myself, the pets are well stocked with their provisions, bring on the snow!! latest word is we’re not going to get much in Upstate NY.:-(

  19. Denise in Kent, WA says:

Am I the only one who finds it oddly hysterical that Fiberspace is having a “make room for the Spring and Summer yarns” sale? Given the back to back storms, you must be feeling like summer will never arrive. Stay warm!

  20. I’m glad Lucy knows how lucky she is not to have to live outside. I’m not sure that realization has made it through to all of mine.
.-= Ida´s last blog ..Mittens, Mittens, Everywhere Mittens =-.

  21. Stay in and stay warm and don’t blow away. Hoping everybody’s power stays on. We’re expecting the winds too. I’m hoping this will be the end of winter yuk. I’m ready for spring and I’m supposed to go to shearing day at local sheep farm Saturday.
