Now We Are Eight

Eight years ago today, I starting blogging my knitting. While it seems like a million years ago, it also feels like it was just yesterday.

In honor of this auspicious occasion, if you leave me a comment and mention which of one my patterns available for sale in my Ravelry shop you might like to win, I will, throughout the weekend, arbitrarily and completely at my whim, send free copies of patterns to randomly selected commenters. Be sure you leave a valid email addy in your comment (email addresses are not displayed on the blog once the comment is published). Alternatively, if you tell me your Ravelry username in your comment, I can send the pdf as a gift through Ravelry.

This is for people who leave comments. Please do not email me. Please do not use the “Contact me” form from the link at the top of the page. To leave a comment, you must visit my actual blog (not respond to the entry emailed to you, should you be subscribed to my blog via email). Once at wendyknits.net, if you scroll down to the bottom of the post, you will see a link that looks something like this:

responses040110 Now We Are Eight

Click on the link that reads “x Responses” and it will open up the single page for the post. You will then need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see the form that you need to fill out to comment.

(All this “how to leave a comment” instruction might seem a little over the top, but every time I have a contest that requires the leaving of comments I get many, many emails from people who don’t know how to leave a comment.)

Onward.

Here is the state of the project I showed you yesterday.

wip040110 240x160 Now We Are Eight

Ooh, a lace edging.

The yarn is Tilli Tomas Demi Plie. The color is “Natural.” I picked this up a couple of years ago when someone was having a great sale (kpixie, perhaps?) along with a pile of it in the Parchment colorway, which became a Hanging Garden Stole (a birthday gift for my sister-in-law — last year I think).

This yarn is 100% silk and has 290 yards to 50 grams, so it’s sort of a heavy laceweight. I love this yarn.

Oh, what is that an edging for?

You’ll see. It’s either going to look fabulous or be a monumental fail.

Have a great weekend! I hope to see a bunch of you at fibre space tomorrow.

Lucy sez:

“I’m staying home. And I guess this means that Momma will be late coming home tomorrow. Hmmmph.”

  15. knittingdigits says:

Congratulations! I’m enjoying your sock books but a shawl/shawlette could be next. All of yours are lovely but I think the Miss Woodhouse Shawlette looks like the one I would be best able to tackle.

  20. cydney yerushalmi says:

I love all the shawls, but you did one in a heavier weight that was lovely and would be nice and warm in the frigid Florida winters we’ve been having. I don’t remember my ravelry name but it’s probably Cydneyjo. Can’t find the book with all my passwords in it.

  21. Corinne in CA says:

  23. Congratulations on Eight Years! I’ve loved your blog since I started knitting again in 2006. 25. Hey Wendy.
I haven’t been following you for 8 years, but WOW….I certainly admire your prolific knitting ability.
I have all of your sock books…love the toe-up socks. Now you’ve gotten me hooked on shawls, so I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE any of your shawl patterns. 26. Madeline says:

Congratulations! The Lady Bertram shawl is my favorite. Thank you!

  27. Wendy, I drool over all your shawlette patterns. Never done any lace work, but I would love love love to. I need a shawlette pattern that would be good for a very beginner lace knitter and one you don’t have to knit with yarn the size of spider webbing. ( I can’t even begin to hold that) . So, I will leave the pattern choice up to you, the professional. I love all your patterns and keep up that wonderful blog.
    My ravelry name is redheadyaya.

  28. Gave your 1st toe-up sock book to my daughter – so far she has finished 3 pair and is a lace convert. I’ve recently had my eye on the Argus Shawlette – thinking of making it for my sister. (I’m Rebw12 on Rav)

    Hi Wendy,

So you began your blog on April Fools’ Day in 2002 – a very good year but an ‘easy out’ if it hadn’t gone well. I can’t imagine having to come up with something new and exciting to talk about each and every day – especially since it would cut into my knitting time. πŸ˜‰ Happy 8th Anniversary! Love the Talisman Shawl pattern, and I could certainly use/need more luck or lucky charms in my life.

  49. Deborah Myers says:

    Wendy,

Congratulations on your trip of eight years. You are very talented and seem to be a very fast knitter. To be able to design and complete projects as difficult of some your larger shawls are comes from great ambition. I will be watching in your future times of designing to see what you come up with. Lucy says some really neat things, and she is cute to boot. I like the shawl at the top of the shawl list – Miss Woodhouse Shawlette. It would make a great Fichu. Thanks for what you do for all of us.

I’d love the Chevron shawlette and stole, because it’s the only one with a stole so far, I think, and I just bought the Argus pattern, which will do fine for a shawlette.

The Chevron shawlette is also beautiful, and it would be hard to choose whether to do that or the stole, if I didn’t have Argus waiting for me to find the perfect yarn.

Your creative mind is amazing, and your knitting skill and speed inspires me, when it doesn’t dumfound me.

    Knit on!
