Now We Are Eight

Eight years ago today, I starting blogging my knitting. While it seems like a million years ago, it also feels like it was just yesterday.

In honor of this auspicious occasion, if you leave me a comment and mention which of one my patterns available for sale in my Ravelry shop you might like to win, I will, throughout the weekend, arbitrarily and completely at my whim, send free copies of patterns to randomly selected commenters. Be sure you leave a valid email addy in your comment (email addresses are not displayed on the blog once the comment is published). Alternatively, if you tell me your Ravelry username in your comment, I can send the pdf as a gift through Ravelry.

This is for people who leave comments. Please do not email me. Please do not use the “Contact me” form from the link at the top of the page. To leave a comment, you must visit my actual blog (not respond to the entry emailed to you, should you be subscribed to my blog via email). Once at, if you scroll down to the bottom of the post, you will see a link that looks something like this:

responses040110 Now We Are Eight

Click on the link that reads “x Responses” and it will open up the single page for the post. You will then need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see the form that you need to fill out to comment.

(All this “how to leave a comment” instruction might seem a little over the top, but every time I have a contest that requires the leaving of comments I get many, many emails from people who don’t know how to leave a comment.)

Here is the state of the project I showed you yesterday.

wip040110 240x160 Now We Are Eight

Ooh, a lace edging.

The yarn is Tilli Tomas Demi Plie. The color is “Natural.” I picked this up a couple of years ago when someone was having a great sale (kpixie, perhaps?) along with a pile of it in the Parchment colorway, which became a Hanging Garden Stole (a birthday gift for my sister-in-law — last year I think).

This yarn is 100% silk and has 290 yards to 50 grams, so it’s sort of a heavy laceweight. I love this yarn.

Oh, what is that an edging for?

You’ll see. It’s either going to look fabulous or be a monumental fail.

Have a great weekend! I hope to see a bunch of you at fibre space tomorrow.

Congratulations! I only started reading knitting blogs early last year, but yours is one of my favourites! I wish I’d known about it 8 years ago 🙂

If I had to pick a pattern – it’s quite difficult as I love all of your work – it would be the Order to Chaos Shawl. I thought it was breathtaking when you finished it, and it got me interested in making shawls!

  4. Wow – 8 years!
congrats on your success. It’s inspiring!
I am MASalter on ravelry and I have totally fallen for your Wrought Iron Socks. I don’t know if it’s the blue of the yarn, the swirls of the “wrought iron” but I have totally fallen head over heels for them. (I know there’s a pun in there somewhere; heels and socks. Oh well!)

    Congrats again

  5. Happy Blogiversary! I have so many favorites, but would love the Seaside Shawl or the Sandvik Faroese Shawl.

Here’s to many more years of successful blogging!

  6. MaryLou says:

Wendy, I would love to win a copy of the Lady Bertram Shawlette. I check your blog daily for updates on your beautiful projects and also to glean a bit of advice from Lucy (who is second only to my cat Darla for wise and witty if sometimes cynical feline observations). My Ravelry username is marylouc.

  7. I’m a little late today, so I missed the patterns — but as there are now 301 comments, the chances were pretty slim, anyway!

I’ve had my eye on your Sandvik Faroese Shawl pattern for quite a while, so that’s the one I’d pick.

Sarah (that’s my name on Ravelry, too)

  9. I have thoroughly enjoyed your writings and your patterns. I have used several of your sock patterns and have knit one of your shawlettes that will go to a little lady who recently lost her husband of 70? years. (They were both over 95!)

I will see you tomorrow at Fibre Space. I now have all of your books and all will be signed.

My favorite Ravelry patterns are: Farolasy, Sandivic Shawlette, and Lady Beram Shawlette.
