Knitcircus

Have y’all seen the online magazine Knitcircus?

Knitcircus 10 spring 10 3 Page 01 186x240 Knitcircus

From their website:

Knitcircus is an independent online magazine; we publish quarterly and knit every day. Knitcircus features knitting and sewing patterns, interviews, articles, and reviews, with an eco- and socially-responsible bent. Check out the interviews, reviews, articles, recipes and pattern previews for free! If you like what you see, the pattern collection is available for purchase while that issue’s live.

I happen to mention it today because I have an article in the current issue, titled “Birth of a Sock” wherein I describe my design process and how a pattern ends up in a book.

The magazine itself is free, so you can read the articles and preview the patterns. As mentioned in the description above, you can then purchase the pattern collection for each issue online. (The pattern collection is very reasonable priced, by the way: 16 patterns for $7.50 — a great deal!)

Here are photos of some of the designs in the Summer 2010 Collection:

Want to win a pattern collection or a one-year subscription? πŸ™‚

Jaala, the editor of Knitcircus, has very generously offered ten copies of the Summer 2010 Pattern Collection and two full one-year subscriptions for a giveaway here. So that’s 12 winners in all.

To enter for a chance to win, leave a comment on this blog post by noon on Monday, May 24, 2010. The great and mighty Random Number Generator will pick the winners and I’ll announce them in Monday’s blog post.

In my knitting news, I have to report that I spent more time killing zombies last night (curse you, Plants vs. Zombies!) than I did knitting, so my progress is woefully little.

I first heard about Knitcircus earlier this year, and I love the magazine! I haven’t sprung for a subscription yet, but it’s on my “list of magazines to subscribe to once one of my current knitting mag subscriptions is over.”

  2. I want one I want one..waving hands. It would be great to win either the subscription or the patterns.. What a generous giveaway..

  3. I love Knitcircus! I would love the subscription. And my crazy Jack Russell Lucy says she wants to chase your kitty Lucy, but just to play with her. πŸ˜‰

Thanks for mentioning and linking Knitcircus. Very interesting!

  5. Please add me in. I read the magazine, but hey, free patterns….

  6. This is a great online magazine. The cost of the patterns is really reasonable.

  7. It’s always nice to hear about a new online source of patterns! I like their model, too… being able to read the magazine before deciding to buy the patterns really helps to, er, decide to buy the patterns. Otherwise you’re just going on pictures on Ravelry, and I don’t often find that a convincing reason to buy.

  8. pick me! pick me! Another knitting e-zine!! Yay!! I need another place to spend time on the computer instead of knitting! πŸ˜‰

  9. This offer is great. I’m keeping my fingers crossed which is difficult while knitting.

  11. JL Bach says:

My life is definitely a circus – so Knitcircus will fit right in.

  12. My kids LOVE plants vs. zombies. It’s an addictive game. In other news, I am SO IMPRESSED at how quickly you knit. Your progress puts mine to shame.

  13. Oh, I love the sweater progress!!! It’s looking lovely!

  41. Carolyn says:

I’ve already succumbed to iFish Pond…now I’m wondering whether Plants vs. Zombies will be the inevitable next step and completely deprive me of my knitting time!

  42. HeatherB says:

Argh – I accidentally hit reset instead of submit, so I’m writing again…I fear it won’t be as witty as the first one. πŸ™ Anyhoo – I’m surprised yet pleased that you’re enjoying Plants vs. Zombies. I’ve been killing zombies for quite some time and it can get intense! I’ve played through at least six times (probably more) and played all of the survival and mini-games. Don’t you love Crazy Dave…. because he’s craaaazy! It doesn’t get old – even when you tire of it, you can come back a few months later and it will be just as fun as it was in the beginning.

Those baby socks are so sweet and I love the shawl! Thanks for sharing the name of the magazine site.

  75. I’d love to have a copy of the Knitcircus patterns. Between sites like this and ebooks we’re getting a little closer to that paperless future that was predicted so long ago. Most of us will still print paper copies to carry with our knitting, but only the patterns we are working on instead of buying a paper magazine full of patterns.

  76. Nice looking projects. I had not heard of Knitcircus before.
