My current work in progress:

Moth Cardigan, designed byAmy Christoffers, knit from Rowan SoftYak DK in the Plain colorway, using U.S. size 3 and 5 needles.

Going Sideways

Now that the Wispy Cardi is off the needles, I am devoting myself full-time to the to-be-named sideways shawl.

This was previously my commuter knitting, so it didn’t get any attention over the long weekend. But now I am more than halfway done with it.

This baby should be off the needles this weekend.

And look what arrived today.

My upcoming release, Toe-Up Socks in a Box!

I got two early advance copies . . . er . . . boxes.

I’m keeping one, of course, but I’ll give the other one away at random to a commenter. Would you like it? Leave a comment on this post by Sunday, September 12, 2010 at noon Eastern time. I’ll draw a winner then.

Don’t know how to leave a comment? Read this.

Lucy is screaming with excitement.

  14. Love the color of your sideways. And I am so happy that Lucy is excited about it as well. I have the same problem with my car knitting versus my house knitting. So I have gone to doing socks for car knitting and I am making good progress making some headway through my sock yarn stash now. Great to see your new “sock box”. Happy Knitting!

Socks in a Box would be wonderful–I travel a lot for my job, and I knit whilst on the plane. Usually I end up copying the pattern and folding it up to put in my project bag. πŸ™‚

Love the blog and the Lucy pictures! πŸ™‚

  38. Kate Lathrop says:

Dear Lucy – your charming, lady like pose make me snort coffee all over my monitor. I think your mom needs to pick my name out of the hat for her fun Socks in a Box to make up for the humiliation and pain πŸ™‚

  39. i would LOVE to receive a copy of toe-up socks in a box! πŸ™‚

  40. ohhh . . . sox in a box. It sounds like a Dr. Suess rhyme, and would make me just as happy.

    Thanks for offering it.

  41. That sideways shawl is so cute! And seems a lot easier to figure out the math for than a top down shawl. Or maybe the top-down is just intimidating me? ^_^; I’d love a box of sock (patterns) XD Looks like recipe cards, that’s so awesome!

  42. Would absolutely love to win sox in a box! πŸ™‚

  43. yes, yes, – -socks in a box – – I’m over here!!

  44. Looks like a nice kit, and I don’t have the newest book, yet, so I shall pray to the random number generator god.

  45. Michele Cashen says:

I would love, love, love to have your toe up box of socks. Thanks!

  46. I have been scared to try to knit socks, perhaps this will give me the courage I need to begin.

  47. Sock in a box! Rocks!
.-= Patty Madrigal´s last blog ..Flowers in the Garden =-.

  48. It would be great to learn a new technique (toe up) and your book/box seems like a good way to do it. I hope I win! Thanks for the opportunity.

  49. me please!

  50. What a great idea! Thank you.

  51. I knit all kinds of socks: for work, for hiking, for around the house!

I would love to have a BOX of SOCKS!

    Pick me!

  52. Would love to win this so I could give it to my twin sister. I know she’d love it!

  53. Wow; that is so cool. I have to learn toe-up. I know cuff down in dpn and in Magic Loop but have yet to try toe-up. Hope I win this to learn some new patterns.

  54. Oh, I have it in my cart at Amazon! Would love to have it from you instead. I have never done toe-up socks, but this was going to be my introduction to them. Love your sideways shawl!

  60. Looks very interesting. Pick me, please. ;~)

  61. Oh I have been lusting after this book but hoping to find a new job first!
What a great idea, socks in a box!
Now, maybe a pedicure to go with it! 8)

  62. Is there a fox in this box of socks?

  63. Ah, commuter knitting! That’s where some of your good knitting time comes from! The only way I can commuter knit is if I learn to knit and drive at the same time, and law enforcement (not to mention other drivers) tend to frown upon that.

The toe-up sock pack looks perfect — tuck a card into the project bag instead of a whole book. Throw my entry into the hat, thanks!

  64. Congratulations on you new “book/box”. Would love to have a copy.

  65. Thanks Wendy, for the opportunity to have my very own “sox in a box”!!! That triangular shawl really looks good too – I just need to finish the Pi shawl first!

  66. Wow, Wendy! Looks fantastic. Living in Florida means not a lot of opportunity to wear warm woolies but socks are a whole ‘nother animal. I’m never without a pair on the needles and have knit several of your designs. Would love to win but will purchase if the randomness does not choose me!

  67. Jeanette McKinney says:

Don’t you just love the excitement that our cats us give when we finish up one project and start another? I wonder what they are really excited about?

  68. I want it!

  69. Fox on socks in box?

Love the color of that sideways shawl!

This like a great publication. Congratulations.

  83. It would be great to win this, that way I could leave my books at home and just take the pattern card with me

  84. Patterns on cards – an excellent idea.

  85. Love the socks-in-a-box idea! I always keep a sock project tucked inside a little drawstring bag inside my purse so I can whip some knitting out whenever I have to wait somewhere. I’ve even stood in line at the courthouse (to get new car tags) and had yarn coming out of my purse as I knitted. Can’t imagine what people were staring at! LOL

  86. laura sequeira says:

I have loved all those ‘in a box’ pattern ideas. Makes it so easy to carry the pattern around–and they are very durable!

  87. It must be exciting to get the advance copies!

Socks in box…sounds like something from Dr Seuss!

  88. So far, I’m less than enthusiastic about the toe-up patterns I’ve encountered (along with the toe-up cast on/increases) so if I don’t win, I’ll have to pick up this box when it comes out. Maybe then I’ll get what all of the fuss is about!

  89. Sylvia Jordan says:

I would love to have your sox in a box!

  90. Oh, that is a great addition to the Wendy Knits collection!

  91. It looks wonderful. But I have a question. I hope you haven’t answered this already and I missed it. If so, please forgive me. What is the difference in the patterns in the box and the book? I understand they are on a more durable paper, but are they all of the same patterns, part of the same patterns or completely different patterns? I believe I counted more in the book, so I was curious. Don’t get me wrong I really, really want the box whether I win it or buy it. Thank you.

  92. Oooooo, socks in a box. I would knit them with a fox. ;0)
.-= Mim´s last blog ..Long Time No See =-.

  93. Lucy is yawning IMHO. who cares about sox in a box, she is thinking, where is that green yarn that smelled so good?

  94. Jane Tullis says:

I’d love to win socks in a box–sign me up! Oh, yeah, I love your patterns.

  95. Always a fan of your patterns; I would love to win this!

  96. The sock box cards would be so helpful! and lucy is way too cute for words!

  97. The Sideways Shawl looks like a fun knit…not too complicated that you would mess it up commuting or hanging with friends.

The ‘Socks in a Box’ is a great concept. What’s next, “Shawl in a Ball”? “Tank from a Hank”?

(Lucy is charming, no matter what her expression)

  98. I would love socks in a box!

  99. Kristi ~ Ohio says:

I love this idea of pattern cards to easily take with you. I’d love to have your patterns in a box!!!

  100. Alicia Howard says:

Considering how little progress I’ve made on sock knitting, a box of socks sounds very helpful!!
