My current work in progress:

Happy Publication Day to Me

Today is the publication day for my Toe Up Socks in a Box. Wheeee!

box110210 180x240 Happy Publication Day to Me

Would you like to take a look inside?

cards110210 240x180 Happy Publication Day to Me

As you can see, it is in card format, and there are six categories of cards:

  • Tools
  • Techniques
  • Lace socks
  • Gansey Socks
  • Cable Socks
  • Sportweight Socks

The tools and techniques cards have information on — you guessed it — tools and techniques for toe-up sock knitting. Here’s a peak at the heels technique card:

howto110210 240x180 Happy Publication Day to Me

As you can see, it folds out, so there’s lots of information on every card.

The pattern cards are similarly formatted. A photo on the front:

Knitting instructions inside:

Pattern110210 240x180 Happy Publication Day to Me

And the chart on the back

Chart110210 240x180 Happy Publication Day to Me

The patterns included are:

  • Dead Simple Lace Socks
  • Lacy Ribs Socks
  • Diagonal Lace Socks
  • Butterfly Socks
  • On-Hold Socks
  • Ribbed Ribbons socks
  • Trilobite Socks
  • Sheri’s Posies Socks
  • Rosebud Socks
  • Diamond Gansey Socks
  • I Heart Toe-up Socks
  • Traditional Gansey Socks
  • Mock Cable Socks
  • Bavarian Cable Socks
  • Heart to Heart Socks
  • Manly Aran Socks
  • Bob and Weave Socks
  • Vandyke Socks
  • Labyrinth Socks
  • Serpentine Socks

So you get 20 sock patterns (taken from my two toe-up sock books) along with cards that advise you on tools you need, techniques for knitting on different types of needles, how-tos for toes, heels, and bind-offs, advice about knitting to fit, and my slip-stitch heel template with instructions for knitting this heel in 6 different sizes.

So that’s it in a nutshell — I mean box. Sorry I have none to give away — I have only one box myself (I gave my other copy away in a give-away a few weeks ago).

But I can tell you the winner of the Knitting Wild Animals book — it is Karla. Karla has been emailed and has responded. Thanks to everyone who left a comment.

Tomorrow I have another book review with a giveaway, so be sure to tune in then!

Lucy is resting up because we have special visitors coming to stay tomorrow. icon smile Happy Publication Day to Me

  10. Oh my! Thank you for listing the included patterns. When I first saw this box online I just LOVED the format but kind of assumed it contained the patterns from the TUS For Every Body because of the cover picture, & they’re a little too advanced for me still. But now I see that my assumption was wrong, so this great little box is going to find its way to my home soon! Love it – hope you will do more installments of patterns in a box. It’s great!

This is such a great value! I had pre-ordered six boxes a few weeks ago and just heard from Amazon that they are shipped and on the way! What great Christmas gifts these will be. For my sister, I’m even going to wrap a box up with a skein of Dream In Color Smooshy yarn and a pair of needles and get her casting on Chrsitmas day :-) Thanks Wendy. You have made knitting socks my favorite thing to knit.

  16. I bought Socks from the Toe Up last week to knit my first pair of socks ever. I figured a little more practice and I would buy the second book. HOWEVER, I think socks in a box is a lot more fun and easier to tote around just the cards I need. It goes on my Christmas list!

  17. wonderful and very cute!

  32. Hi Wendy!

I got my sock box from Amazon today. I love the format… I wish all knitting books would be published this way. I rarely carry whole books with me, but it would be so much easier in this format. I think that’s one of the main reasons why I HAVE so many knitting books, but rarely knit from them. They’re a pain to lug around. This format is perfect for sock knitters. What a cool idea!

    Dear Wendy,

Your new Box o’Socks is gorgeous, and such a great idea. Congratulations on yet another publishing accomplishment. Can’t wait to find out what the stealth projects are when you unveil them.

    Best, and cheers!
    Natalie

  38. MaryEllen says:

Great job, Wendy!! I received my “Boxes” this morning and am blown away with how thorough and well organized the cards are. All the info a new or experienced knitter needs is there and much easier to find and use than it would be in book format. I’m going to give my best friend her set now instead of waiting for Christmas as I know she will use the patterns for making gifts for her family. Thank you!

  39. Congratulations Wendy! I still want to purchase the Toe Up book of yours…I’ll get it eventually here. Hope the Toe up box does well…we are all so proud of you!

Lucy is certainly tucked in there tight…must be getting chilly! Kibby is still losing fur despite the cool weather turn.

    Smiles, kathie

  40. Congratulations Wendy :-)

Have fun with the visitors and hugs to all
