My current work in progress:

1. Woodfords, designed by Elizabeth Doherty, knit from Madelinetosh Merino Light in the "paper" colorway on U.S. size 3, 5, and 7 needles.
2. Myriad stealth projects.

Two Happys, a Sad, Another Happy, and a Shocker

I was happy to see that the pirate site that was illegally displaying copyrighted material belonging to others shut down so quickly. There was certainly a lot of discussion about it in the comments. To clear up a couple of points:

One commenter posted that the site was completely automated. While this is true of a lot of illegal sites, that was not the case with this one. Yes, it was automatically set up to pull in and post RSS feeds from my blog and others, but the posting of patterns was not automatic. Some patterns from Knitty were arbitrarily selected posted, along with a single selected photo for each pattern. Not every Knitty pattern was posted. A few other free patterns from other sites were posted as well. The patterns were organized into categories. (Incidentally, none of my free patterns were posted there — but my RSS feed was.)

When I emailed them and told them to remove my content from their site, they immediately removed the links to my blog content they had stolen (and links to other blog content) and rearranged the homepage. But left up the patterns.

There was advertising on the site from several large well-known knitting supply companies. Those companies were not making a conscious decision to advertise on that site. The ads were supplied by Google. Here is a wikipedia article that explains how the system works.

There are other sites out there illegally displaying other peoples’ work, but at least we found and took down this one.

Another Happy:

We have winners for the KnitCircus pattern collection! They are: Timmie, Eileen B., Orli, Lenore, Amanda U, Melissa, Kamilla M., “I’m Just Lori”, Gloria, and Meg. All of the winners have bene emailed a link from which they can download the pdf of the pattern collection.

And here is the Sad:

Rowan Yarns is planning to discontinue Calmer. Calmer is one of my favorite yarns, so this makes me extremely sad.

But . . .

There is a petition out there: Save Rowan’s Calmer Yarn!

Click on the widget above to go to the petition and sign to let Rowan know you want them to keep producing this yarn.

WIP Happy

I’ve managed to get most of the front of Filey done.

A Shocker

Teddy somehow got it into his head that he is royalty and was recently crowned King Rowan:

However, trouble was lurking — he was quickly deposed and lost his crown!

I don’t think he would have been a very good king anyway.

  1. LOL, Kitty was just being darn sure not to be dethroned! By a BEAR!
    Cindy´s last blog post ..Post #510… wow….

  2. Win one for all knitting bloggers out there! I love Rowan calmer too. Lucy wasn’t taking any chances with a teddy bear king.

  3. Everyone knows the ball bands belong to Lucy!

  4. Sweet little teddy, he probably knew it wouldn’t last but bless his courageous heart for grabbing the crown while he could. Sad indeed about Calmer.

southparknitter´s last blog post ..Detour to the frog pond already

  7. All hail King Teddy!!!
    I am still loyal……

  8. Maybe Teddy knew that Lucy owns all ball bands and chose abdicated the throne…pretty big crown for such a tiny King…Lucy was just helping out.

  9. I signed the petition earlier in the week. I’ll admit I haven’t used most of the Calmer I’ve bought, but I have definitely bought a fair amount. It is wonderfully squishy and would be my go to yarn for my friends allergic to wool.
Seanna Lea´s last blog post ..walking my way back to better health

  10. Thank You!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! 8*)

  11. Poor Teddy! How could he not realize that Lucy is queen?
janna´s last blog post ..Well, hello there!

  12. You can also go to Rowan’s Facebook page and post a comment about Calmer if you ‘like’ them.
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rowan-Yarns/114826272423?ref=ts&sk=wall
But I don’t think they’ll leave it up – I can’t find what I wrote earlier, though I just posted another, milder comment.

  13. Hi Wendy,
I know this isn’t as good as getting them to not discontinue Calmer, but…there is a woman in the UK who specializes in discontinued Rowan yarns. Her website is http://www.jannettesrareyarns.co.uk/ She has excellent service and very fair prices. Right now she has a large list of Calmer colors for $32.50 for a full bag of balls. She will also try to special order colors for you. I can’t say enough about how great her service is. So I wanted to pass this along to any others mourning the loss of Calmer — stock up from Jannette while you can.

  14. Lucy is making sure she’s the only royalty in the house! LOL

  15. Your email saying I won really made my day!

  16. Does Lucy ever steal yarn? This is a new behavior with my little Clyde. He walks off with skeins of yarn. Bonnie doesn’t do this, but Clyde does. He brought a skein of Lornas Laces into bed this morning. He is very naughty.

  17. Love the pic of Lucy dethroning Teddy. Made my day so much better!

  18. That is really sad about Calmer. I will sign the petition. Give teddy my condolences on being deposed.

  19. Poor teddy….Butreally he should have known better around Lucy… She is the Queen after all:)

  20. Poor teddy, perhaps a less “noble’ yarn for his crown and Lucy won’t mind.
Signed the Calmer petition, one of my favourites too.

  21. Apparently the country that is your home is ruled by a Queen and not a King. Oh, well he could always be her court jester. He just needs a new hat with bells on it.

  22. Have followed your blog for the past six months and enjoy it a lot. Glad to see that you were able to get the bad website taken down.
I love your designs and wondered if you are working on another book. Please keep them up.
I did the KAL in the Spring and am sorry to say that I did not get my project finished after I dropped a stitch and did not get much help to fix it at my LYS. But after laying in bed and thinking about it for a time the other night, I figured out something. My problem is how to fix a dropped stitch, when there are yarnovers in the mix. I am new at lace knitting. I think that I can pin my work to a square of cork, and then go through the lines to figure out where the mistake can be fixed. I hate to tear out a bunch of rows, but maybe I will have to, to get this done. Meanwhile, I loved the project, and am hoping that you will do one again after the holidays.

  23. Rowan may discontinue Calmer? O.M.F.G. I signed the petition. Even though I have two sweaters worth of Calmer in my stash, I weep to think I may not be able to replace them.
