Wingspanning

Here is the state of my Wingspan Scarf as of this morning, spread out as much as possible on my desk at work:

Wingspan022312 240x144 Wingspanning

I am on the 16th triangle and am thinking about how many more triangles I can make. I have this much of the skein left:

Yarn022312 240x144 Wingspanning

Before I started the 16th triangle, I weighed the skein. It weighs 29 grams. This yarn comes in a 150-gram skein, so the first 15 triangles took 121 grams of yarn, or just over 8 grams each.

After completing the triangles, I need to work 4 rows along the long edge and then bind off. That long edge will be over 200 stitches, because each triangle contributes 13 stitches to the edge.

A variable — I did not weigh my skein before I started knitting. It may have weighed slightly more or less than 150 grams.

So what I think I will do is work a total of 17 triangles then work the long edge.

I did purchase a second skein of Zauberball Starke 6 in this colorway, but I think I’ll be very happy with the length of the scarf worked with one skein.

Would anyone like my second skein to knit their own Wingspan? icon smile Wingspanning

To be entered in a random drawing to win one skein of Zauberball Starke 6 in colorway #2081 (a lovely mix of olive green and black), leave a comment on this blog post by Tuesday February 28, 2012, noon Eastern time.  I’ll choose a recipient at random from the comments left (you must leave a comment on this post to be eligible to win).

Oh me, me, me, please. I love that color way in that wonderful pattern (which I have already downloaded). Glad to see Lucy again at the bottom of your post. She always is a treat to see.

  45. After reading your previous post re Wingspan, I promptly went to Ravelry and downloaded it – cause as we all know, I have no other projects in the wings and all my projects on needles are finished, washed and blocked – at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  46. I’ve been wanting to knit a Wingspan in shades of green for a while now – thanks for the generous give-away!

BTW, I love the drapey-ness of your cowl! It looks so soft & warm & squishy!

  47. I love the way that the colourway and patterning works with the construction of that pattern. I’ve already downloaded it – but only have solid shaded yarn in my stash – and I don’t think the effect will be as good (I have a rule that every year from January I will only knit from my stash until my birthday – mid March is still tooooooooo way far off!!!!!!!

  61. I had seen that pattern in Ravelry and went stash diving, finding nothing (sob!) with a long color change that would be suitable. I sure would love to knit it in olive – which happens to be one of my better colors.
