Even though I still have quite a lot of knitting to do on my denim jacket, I’ve been thinking ahead to my next project and have been knitting swatches as part of the design process. Here’s a “big” cable:
Here is a panel of “mini” honeycomb stitch:
And here is a filler stitch:
I’m going to put these three elements together for my next project.
The honeycomb stitch I swatched is a honeycomb made up of 2-stitch cables. I thin k I will instead do a larger honeycomb with 4-stitch cables. I think it will “go” better with the main cable. So I’ll re-swatch that piece and see how it looks with the big cable.
Lucy doesn’t really care.
I agree–the larger honeycomb will balance better with your large cable, and offset the “filler” stitch better.

I have a number of patterns I’m interested in with honeycomb patterns. I am looking forward to seeing this one take shape.

I’m beginning to sense a new ‘Wendy Knits’ book in the offing. Will it be ‘Aran’, or ‘Cables’, or simply ‘Texture’? I have a weakness for those lovely woven cable things – they look so Renaissance to me.
I especially like the Large Cable.
