Square C

I completed Square C of my Cornerstone Blanket at the end of last week:

SquareC011313 240x219 Square C

I’m working on Square D now, the 4th of 6 squares.

Thanks to everyone (including Cornerstone Blanket designer Kay) who weighed in on the softness of Silk Garden post-washing in the comments. Apparently it does soften up quite a bit after washing. Go figure! I’m happy to hear this, and I’m very much looking forward to washing and blocking my blanket to see how it is transformed.

New Yarn!

A new yarn was brought to my attention: American Lamb, by Made in America Yarns. (Read more about the company here.)

Yarn011313 240x160 Square C

American Lamb is a bulky weight 100% lambswool. It has 146 yards per 3.5 oz skein. It’s lovely and soft and would be great for whipping up a big cozy scarf or a fast hat.Pictured above, the “Blue Moon” colorway on top, and the “Fog” colorway on the bottom

Extreme yarn close-up:

YarnCloseup011313 240x160 Square C

The company very nicely sent me two skeins to try out. I’m going to keep one and knit a fast hat from it, and give away the other. I’m keeping Blue Moon and am offering Fog (a great color for a guy hat!) in a giveaway.

If you’d like to win my skein of American Lamb bulky wool in the “Fog” colorway, leave a comment on this blog post by noon Eastern time on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. A name will be drawn at random to give away the skein.

Lucy

I took this photo with my phone the other night. Not the greatest quality picture, but too cute not to share:

  2. Lovely knitting – but my absolut favorite is Lucy. I love “Lucy says”.

  3. I love watching your blanket move along. I can’t wait to see the final result. The yarn looks wonderful. I am anxious to see the hat that you knit with it.

    Oohhhhhh, shiny new yarn.

  5. I made a purse out of the Silk Garden and lightly felted it. It did get quite soft, but I also found it kind of itchy where the strap rubbed my neck. I think it was the mohair, or it could just be me. I have no issues with wool, however, and would love to be entered to win that beautiful gray. (I’m sure it would be a great color for a girl, too – me ;D).

  6. The yarn looks nearly as lovely as Lucy in the box. It is about time to make a fog hat.

  7. Pretty yarn! Is it as squishy as it looks?

Silk garden def softens up. It took me a long time to get on the Noro wagon, partly because I shared your skepticism. I think you’ll be quite pleased.

  31. One can never have too much lovely yarn. Thanks for sharing!

  59. I love the idea of American made yarn! I’ve used some Lamb’s Pride in my time and would love to try this; additionally, I owe my neighbor his hat for this year. It’s become sort of a tradition and he asked me about it the other day, I better get cracking!

Lucy looks so adorable in that box. I have to put any box that comes in the house down on the floor for a day or two until Mr. Tux gets his fill. Cats are such marvelous creatures.

  60. Would love to win, Wednesday is my son’s birthday, I can’t think of a better gift than the promise of a new knitted hat from mom.

  61. I need more yarn in my house like I need another hole in my head, but that’s never stopped me before! Please enter me in the drawing, and thanks for sharing. I promise if I win I’ll make a hat for someone. (I love to knit hats but I never wear them myself. Go figure.)
