Lucy

I am saddened more than I can say to have to tell you that my Lucy died earlier this week.

Lucy093012 240x215 Lucy

Lucy came to live with me in May 2003 when she was two years old. She died at the age of 12 — far too short a life.

Something I never shared on this blog is that Lucy had a number of fairly serious health issues. I had successfully managed her health problems for the past few years with a lot of help from a caring veterinarian, and up until this week she did very well. She was a happy and loving kitty living a good life. But I knew this time would come sooner rather than later, and when her health declined, it did so very quickly and suddenly. I said good-bye to my baby two days ago.

I am trying to take comfort in knowing that she had a wonderful ten years with me. She was such a special kitty and I’ll never forget her.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know how hard these days have been for you, and how lonely your home will be without her. I remember when you came to Virginia Beach to teach a class, and wanted to get home to her. Please know thoughts and prayers are with you.

  2. Penny Bowen says:

So very sorry, I know she is a part of your family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. I am so sorry, Wendy. I always enjoyed seeing the pictures of Lucy at the end of each of your blog entries. She was a lovely cat and a great friend to you. It’s so great she had her special cat bowl these last few weeks to enjoy laying in. You gave her a wonderful life — you can tell from her photos she was one happy kitty. But this is a sad time for you. Knitting can help maybe, as you can enter your thoughts and memories of Lucy as the needles do their work.

I am sure you will never forget Lucy. After a while you will be smiling when you recount one of her behaviors. I still do that about animals I lost 20 years ago.

Our pets give us so much love. We just need to be grateful for their sharing our lives.

  45. I am so sorry on the loss of Lucy. I know every day you had with her was more cherished due to her health issues, I know this as my 16 year old guy has shown his own health issues lately so we do the best we can to make their lives happier and easier.

I have great sympathy and understanding for your loss. I lost my Claudia after 13 years in May. It was a tumor in her throat. Blessedly she went quickly when it was time. We still miss her and always will. I was just finishing a knit blanket for her at the time. It is now the property of her sister Kitty, who is 8 years old. Time will help heal the empty space with wonderful memories. Thoughts with you.

  55. Wendy TC says:

The first line of your post brought immediate tears to my eyes. I share my life with cats and over the years, have gone through the grief of losing two of them. Both had health serious health issues too, so I can imagine the loving care and dedication you had taking care of your Lucy. Animals give us so much unconditional love and bring so much joy to our lives. Go through your grief and let the tears flow freely. Imagine that your dear Lucy is butting your face with her head to wipe the tears off.
