One Lacy Rib Sock
I haven’t got much for you today. But here is one Lacy Rib sock, hot off the needles.
I really really like this alpaca sock yarn. Several of you had questions about it.
I don’t think it will felt in the wash, because it’s 20% nylon. Last year I knitted a pair of socks from an alpaca/nylon blend that I’ve machine washed and dried several times, and they survived those ordeals beautifully.
Despite being mostly alpaca, this yarn seems to have a nice elasticity. Well, it is 20% merino wool, so that gives it some springiness.
Also, the pattern I noodled up for it is a particularly stretchy lace rib, so that adds a lot of bounce.
I think this patterns look particularly well in a variegated yarn, too.
Thanks for all the lovely comments on my Asparagus Ribs Socks. This pattern will be available for sale in the near future. I plan on offering up all my Summer of Socks socks eventually.

I am eagerly awaiting the pattern, I have already ordered the yarn for the Asparagus socks. A nap sounds great, perhaps I will join the bandwagon.

Has the little movie star kept you busy answering her fan mail, fielding off the paparazzi and generally tending to her every whim? We can’t let Lucy become Paris so you go get a nap and take care of yourself, Wendy. The little movie star will just have to cool those incredibly cute jets while you get your strength back.
Wendy- I love variegated yarn to the point that I find solid colors somewhat boring now.
I’m sure Lucy concurs, being variegated herself, so to speak.

Beautiful socks, I really think you are truly an artist. All of your socks are wonderful. I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Have a great nap with lucy.

I can’t nap. I don’t have a cat to nap with. It follows that I needs me a cat. Is it true that ragdolls don’t cause the allergic reaction that other cats do?
Beautiful socks. I’m working on a practice/learning sock, the third one, but still have terrible holes at the gusset. I’ll beat it yet.

Lucy - You must work your nap magic more often on your mom, because she sounds beat!
I am of the (very strong) mindset that children have the right idea, and a nap in the afternoon can cure most any bad day.
And booze helps too…
The alpaca socks look wonderful. I did knit alpaca socks last year, and they have been wonderful.They are so soft, and warm.

Lacy rib socks are my favourite kind - feminine and comfortable but not really girly.
Also, alpaca won’t felt no matter how hard you try.
Hope you enjoyed your nap. I also needed one (without feline company, sadly). Really nice looking sock! For the moment I’m happy just to look at it—it’s been so hot here I’d rather not touch anything as warm as alpaca!

Out of curiosity, how long do you normally make the leg of your socks? Do you have a personal rule of thumb for determining this?

Alpaca is one of my favorite fibres and that yarn looks yummy.
Summer of Socks would make a nice book or booklet. So far, I’d like
to knit everyone of ‘em. Note to Lucy: teach Mommy how to nap properly. This is one area where cats are far superior to humans.

I agree withanother commenter, Wendy. You should write a book with all your sock patterns and tips in one place. I actually bought your book based on the toe-up sock instructions, but have not been brave enought to try it yet.
