Another glorious week is rolling along.

Wait. Did that sound sarcastic?

In case you didn’t notice, I removed the tag-board. It causes problems when my page is viewed in some older browsers, I checked my stats and a number of people do view my site using older browsers, so out it goes.

You can still leave feedback by using the comments (link beneath each day’s entry).

Let us take time out then to enjoy today’s . . .

Guest Kitties!

Meet Morgan

and Bridget.

These beauties are 15 1/2 years old and belong to Caroline F. Don’t tell Izzy, but I think they’re gorgeous!

Izzy sez “eh.” I think she misses being the center of attention.

Hank 8

It’s progressing. I was pleased to discover that the colors in “real life” are richer and more intense than the photos in the book showed them. It is great fun to knit. I love all the scrolly bits! As a pattern repeat is 64 rows, it’ll be a while before I have one repeat done. I didn’t do a whole lot last night because of really really tired eyes. I’m spending inordinate amounts of time staring at a computer monitor at work these days and when I get home my eyes are burning.

The Manly Art of Knitting

And lastly, this is for Jerry, from When Knitting Was a Manly Art. I swiped this photo from an ebay auction description a few years ago when I saw this book being offered for sale. I would have bought it but the bidding went way high and made it prohibitively expensive. I understand it’s full of useful projects for your average cowboy — like a knitted horse blanket for his trusty steed.

I actually found a copy of that book in a used book store not too long ago and couldn’t resist it. I was going to do a blog entry about it someday. (Scooped!) It’s a hoot.

Phew Wendy! We thought maybe you didn’t want to talk to us anymore!! LOL! :) Hank looks so beautiful!! And believe me, I totally understand on the tired eyes thing. That mixed with Max waking me up daily at 3:00 am makes for a very tired girl on a daily basis.

Thanks for sharing Hank with us! You make such progress so fast!!!

Wendy, wow! Henry VIII have not been this popular with women for decades I suspect…
And your knitting is a work of art. I am a Wendy-fan. If you make a button saying that I would definitely wear it.
Greetings from a sunny Sweden.

OK here’s my question! I have the yarn for both Irish Diamond and the ‘Sheep Shawl’ from the same designer as the Peace and Pacific NW shawls. Which would be better for a first lace project, do you think?

My kitties are honored to be on your blog! Tell Izzy we all still love her!

5 Wendy 03.18.03 at 8:18 am

Caroline, the Irish Diamond is easier, but the Sheep Shawl is smaller. With Irish Diamond you have a mostly repetitive pattern and once you bind off, you’re done. The Sheep Shawl pattern has more changes, and a knitted on edging, so it’s a more challenging project.

Izzy is relieved to hear that you all still love her! :-)

I will probably do Irish Diamond first, then, it will also help that the yarn is more substantial. Are they really so easy? I noticed that you finished some of your shawls in a week. Or were you on vacation?? ;->

I find lace easy. I think it’s because I have a photographic memory and memorize charts with no problem. For some reason, lace goes really really fast for me. Nope, I wasn’t on vacation. :-)

In case anyone is curious, The Manly Art of Knitting is available through the inter-library loan network. Just ask your local public library to try to order it for you. The author is Dave Fougner and it was published in 1972. have fun!

Hank is gorgeous. I love the colors. Like you said, much more vibrant than in the book.

Okay, Wendy, you’ve gotten me to the point of checking out the Hank colors on my color card. Temptation is creeping in! Now, admit it—you got rid of the tagboard because of our singing, right? Were we that offkey?

11 Andrea 03.18.03 at 9:43 am

Wendy, that is a gorgeous sweater! I’m so jealous of your speed. As for my progress on PW, another round or two last night, plus I’m about to turn the heel on my sock. (I would have done it while stuck in traffic last night, but I left the directions at work. Grrr.) And I adore the pic of the knitting Marlboro man — I’ll have to show that to my dh!

I think you nixed the tagboard because you didn’t want anyone to see that the Opal Royal yarn is on e-bay! ;-) No one else should have such royal socks but you, eh?

Hope the tractor maniac hasn’t affected your day or commute!

Wendy,
Echoing all the others, Hank is gorgeous! You are certainly prolific! I know you strand both yarns in your left hand. I’m doing 2-handed but would like to train myself to strand 2 in the left. Any tips, tricks, or recommendations?? Yo! Izzy! You still ‘da woman!
You’ll just have to start showing male guest cats–sort of a “bachelorette” thing so Izzy can pick and choose!! Ha

13 Kathy 03.18.03 at 10:25 am

All these photo’s of such beautiful cats - makes me wish I weren’t allergic to them :(

14 Karen 03.18.03 at 10:32 am

Andrea, I must confess — I succumbed to the Opal Royal Yarn on Ebay and purchased two skeins yesterday under the “buy it now” option. Sent off the check today and now must wait patiently for it to arrive. It looks lovely on the screen! I can’t wait to make my own pair!

Wow! Wow! Wow! Did I say wow enough? No? Let me say it again…wow!!!

Hank is absolutely stunning. I am in *LOVE* with the colors. It looks so much better on my monitor than it does in my Tudor Roses book. I’m really looking forward to more WIP photos on this one.

Who’s the lucky recipient? I’d be tempted to keep it for myself…LOL :)

I started a list a few weeks ago of links by cat name to the various knitbloggers. Of course Izzy has her own link from my page, so she shouldn’t worry about being dethroned by guest kitties.

17 Jessica 03.18.03 at 12:08 pm

I’ll have to take some new pictures of Liberty & Dumbledore & maybe they can be guest kitties here.. they’re both boys (but will be neutered on Thursday)…

18 CarolineF 03.18.03 at 3:47 pm

OK Wendy, I’m taking Friday off to upgrade to XP! Wish me luck!!

19 Wendy 03.18.03 at 4:42 pm

Good luck! Hope it goes as well for you as it did for me!

20 Lisak 03.18.03 at 5:22 pm

Beautiful sweater Wendy! Love the cats! Putt thinks they are cool too.

21 Jerry 03.19.03 at 11:32 am

Cool… Now, at least, I know what the cover looks like. I *really* need to find a copy of this book…
