Rip It Out? Not Likely.

by Wendy on January 28, 2008

No, I will not be ripping back and fixing the blooper in my mitten.

It’s funny that I never noticed it. It wasn’t until I was uploading the photo that I spotted the error on the photo. I even went back and looked at the mitten because I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t seen it. But no, I didn’t.

I must have moved my place marker up the chart twice at that point because my chart is correct. And it occurred one full repeat after I tried the mitten on for the photo last week, so that had nothing to do with it.

Will I knit the left mitten to match? Nope. I’ll endeavor to knit that one without error.

Anyhow, thanks for all your name suggestions for this mitten. There were so many good ones that I was hard pressed to select just a few for the poll. But I did, and here they are:

I’m not starting the second mitten right away. I’ve started something else, being knit from these two yarns:

Yarn 012808

Yarn 012808

That’s Socks That Rock Lightweight in the Shadow colorway (from the Raven series) and Wollmesie in the Campari Orange colorway.

Wait’ll you see what those two beauties are being knit up into! I’m loving it so far . . .

I’ll show you tomorrow. :-)

Lucy Is Up To Something

Lucy has been muttering to herself the past few days. I finally got close enough to hear what she was saying without her realizing that I was listening. It was “Four legs good, two legs better.”

That explains this behavior, caught on digital film by the KOARC.

She’s practicing walking upright.

And then, last night I saw a stack of these in my printer:

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

My dogs have been trying the two legs thing with mixed results. As far as what you saw on the printer, at least shes making hundreds and not any amateur twenties or tens.

I admit it, I’ll vote for just about anything that has the word “monkey” in its name. :)

Lucy’s taking over the world?! I hope she’ll be a benevolent dictator. Is she susceptible to catnip? That could work in our favor…

3 Courtney 01.28.08 at 7:33 pm

Oh No! Call the kitty police! Lucy’s making counterfit kitty-dollars! Hehehe. Okay. I voted for the Monkey Pattern name. I like monkies. Wait. Monkeys. Yeah.

4 Molly 01.28.08 at 7:42 pm

Those cute cats are always up to something!

5 Ria 01.28.08 at 7:42 pm

*explodes from cuteness* That is adorable! :3

6 Jo 01.28.08 at 8:04 pm

Damn! Lucy for President!
She’s certainly cuter than any of the candidates we have now,
plus, she would be certain not to stick her foot in her mouth (unless it was to daintily wash her face).
By the way, my Havanese also walks upright…does Lucy need an Hispanic running mate? Chica would be more than happy to serve!

7 Dave Daniels 01.28.08 at 8:09 pm

Um…Lucy also has internet access. She EMAILED Miss Lulu some of those bills to print out, so Miss Lulu could rendezvous with her in Manhattan. Beware the kitty on 2 legs, it’s only the beginning…

8 Sherry 01.28.08 at 8:15 pm

You guys are too funny. You keep us so entertained. Lucy money … why wasn’t that thought of before? OK, I’m crazy, I’m thinking you need to somehow distribute Lucy money (maybe with your patterns), then the Loopy Ewe needs to have a contest aound the money.

I love the word Millefiore. I voted for it, then looked it up. Not only is it a nice word, it fits the mittens perfectly.

9 Tracy 01.28.08 at 8:15 pm

Ok, I vote that for all birthdays and anniversaries this year you send a lovely card and a $100 bill of Lucy money ROFLOL

10 Gibson and Neuroknitter 01.28.08 at 8:24 pm

Gibson: A party in Manhattan!! I got some of those kitty bills, too!!! Yippy Skippy!!

NK: Hmmmm, me thinks there’s a conspiracy afoot!! Lovely mittens! I can’t wait to see what becomes of the Campari Orange/Shadow combo!!! :)

11 Sheila 01.28.08 at 8:31 pm

I love the mittens, and you barely can tell the mistake. I think they look great, if you didn’t point the mistake out, I bet we wouldn’t have noticed that much. I love Lucy and her actions. Every time I read your blog, all my son wants to do is look at Lucy. Thank you for sharing the pics.

I would rather trust in lucy than anything else out there.

think she found a website with superstrong catnip for sale? or new techno dance music?

hmmmmmm… ;-)

13 Lee Cockrum 01.28.08 at 9:13 pm

Lucy is so great! and I am excited that Caviar is in the running! I did not read other comments, I thought of it just from looking at the mitten. So I am happy! Small things for small minds!

14 Suzann 01.28.08 at 9:59 pm

Lucy Money is just so scary/cool. I hope my cats don’t get wind of this. They will be off buying treats for themselves.
My older cat Lucky stands up for treats.

15 jacqui583 01.28.08 at 10:00 pm

The mittens look wonderful regardless. If it’s really bothering you, you could just duplicate stitch over with the correct colour. Easy-peasy fix.

16 MaryO 01.28.08 at 10:00 pm

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It can only mean one thing: She’s figured out how to knit, now she’s printing up money to spend at the Loopy Ewe. Lucy is about to challenge Mom to a knitting contest! ;-) luv2lucy&Wendy.m.

17 Sock Knitter 01.28.08 at 10:01 pm

OMG, how ADORABLE that Lucy Kitty is!! Lucy money, oh dear! Wonder what that is all about? Think you can get it out of her??

And I can’t believe you’re making us wait until TOMORROW to get a glimpse of you newest project — that’s not right! ::gg:: But I CANNOT wait to see those yarns together!!! You’ve done it AGAIN — can’t wait to see what you’re up to now :)

18 MaryO 01.28.08 at 10:02 pm

A P.S.
The new yarn is delicious! That campari orange is the most luscious orange color I think I’ve ever seen! De-light-ful! Made my mouth water for an orange! luvagain.m.

This is an inexcusably long comment, but your stack of Lucy money prompted me to tell you a story just related by #1 son. He is home for a short break right now in the middle of his stint being a volunteer teacher in Chiapas, Mexico, where the indigenous peasants have declared their autonomy from the Mexican government. His students are in the 8 to 14 range, with a few older folks thrown in.

One of his students asked, “Is it true that in America they teach you in school how to make money?”

#1 didn’t quite know how to interpret the question because the kid used the Spanish verb hacer, to make, instead of ganar, to earn; the latter would have been the usual way to phrase the question. Turns out the kid really WAS asking if American schools teach us how to make, i.e., print/draw, our own money. Apparently that’s why all Americans are so rich.

love the Lucy bucks. so fun… me wants some :-)
so glad to hear you aren’t reknitting that gorgeous mitt. You’re a girl after my own heart !

21 Rabbitch 01.29.08 at 2:32 am

Hell, I’d accept that as legal tender.

22 Theresa in Italy 01.29.08 at 6:03 am

Lucy money has got to be worth more than the old Italian Lire (fortunately long gone, thanks to the Euro, but the old folks still work out the cost of everything in lire).

I can’t believe how perfectly the Wollmeise Campari Orange captures the colors of a glass of Campari with an orange slice in it. Pass the prosciutto.

23 Leslie 01.29.08 at 6:26 am

Lucy money? Perry P thinks it’s a grand idea! Where’s the money exchange please?

24 Liz in IN 01.29.08 at 8:08 am

I’m with Jo–Lucy for President! Okay. Nuf sed.

Gorgeous mittens (”design element” and all). I love that style thumb gusset, starting at the wrist instead of simply tacked on halfway up the hand. Beautiful + practical = Perfect.

And that Wollmeise Campari! What a spectacular colour! Looking at it actually made me a little light-headed–the good way. Covet, covet, covet.

25 Anne 01.29.08 at 8:54 am

Lucy has discovered the Meerkat thing! When we adopted Duchess, my (petite) female cat she spent most of her time on two legs trying to see everything. two years later she still spends lots of time trying to reach or see things that just are available to her on four legs.

I love the Wollmeise/STR yarn combination! I can’t wait to see what it will be.

26 Danielle from SW MO 01.29.08 at 9:19 am

The only time my kitties are on 2 feet is when the Boys are fighting, LOL! My little boy kitties love to see the Luy pics and am sure they would love to vote for Lucy as President/Dictator etc :-) The Lucy money is really cute, so cute that I bet it could be passed off as real because the clerks would be oooohing and awwwing over it to much to pay attention. You better watch that little cutie :-)

27 firefly 01.29.08 at 9:27 am

I haven’t been by in a few days, so I missed the reveal of the completed mitten(s). Looks quite warm and scrumptious. The little flowers in the design are so cute and handsome at the same time.

Lucy Money … now, that would definitely resolve the recession issue. Lucy, I say fire up the presses.

Warm hugs from me and a curious lick from Blu,
firefly

28 Marianne 01.29.08 at 9:58 am

now that’s funny!

29 Anne 01.29.08 at 10:18 am

The first time you posted the mitten photo, I couldn’t see it…this time is just jumped right out at me — but really, who would know? Of course, everyone who reads your blog, when meeting you, will check to see what you have on your hands, and if it’s this mitten (as you only have one) they’ll be pointing it out LOL!!!

30 Michelle 01.29.08 at 10:35 am

Okay, I’m coming out of hiding to say that those colors look amazing…..cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve, or possibly pantleg, as it were!

31 Ann in CT 01.29.08 at 1:14 pm

ah! The revolution was just underground all this time. I surprised she didn’t make a move when you were down for the count from your back.

32 Carol 01.29.08 at 2:08 pm

On no! They’re rising up at last! No I know what Linus has been mumbling about…

33 Carrie 01.29.08 at 3:08 pm

I really only skimmed the other comments, but I can’t tell if I’m the only one who caught the “Animal Farm” reference… Seriously though, that book scared me.

Those yarn are b-eautiful! Can’t wait to see what will become of them.

Tell Miss Lucy to keep her widdle nose clean!

34 Wendy in Cambridge 01.29.08 at 3:32 pm

If Lucy is plotting world domination, she has my vote!

Ooh, those orange and black yarns. What is it???

35 KarenM 01.29.08 at 4:22 pm

You’ve made me excited for tomorrow….
If Lucy runs for President, I’m behind her….
Very pretty mittens– everything you make is pretty….

36 Mary 01.29.08 at 6:29 pm

Make the other mitten to “match”……hence, no mistakes! By the way, they’re beautiful as they are!!! You rock!
:-)

I LOVE LUCY!

A Random Image

Meet Lucy, my sealpoint Ragdoll kitty and knitting supervisor. She was born in February 2001. She was a rescue cat: I adopted her from Capital Animal Care in May 2003.
