My current work in progress:

1. Modified Peace Socks knit from Alchemy Juniper in the "Dragon" colorway, on 2mm needles.
2. Various stealth projects.

Wrong Side

frognerju2803a.jpg

Here it is . . . the wrong side of Frogner.

I picked up and knitted the front bands yesterday.

frognerju2803.jpg

And I picked up and knitted the neckband as well.

I haven’t done the button loops yet. The pattern directs you to crochet button loops, but I plan on doing teeny tiny i-cords instead.

Could I Be Any More Senile?

Sometimes I worry about myself.

I knew I had some Dale of Norway yarn stashed for projects I couldn’t remember. This past weekend I hauled them out — two bags of Heilo and one of Daletta. I wrote down the color numbers and amounts I had in each bag.

The Daletta was easy to figure out — Beito, in the blue colorway.

beito.jpg

And I figured out the first bag of Heilo was for Empire Canyon, from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Collection, in the white colorway.

empirecanyon.jpg

The second bag of Heilo was for Norge 2000, done in the deep teal colorway.

Some of you may recall that I knitted Norge 2000 in the Norwegian blue colorway in March 2002. I must have bought the wool for the deep teal colorway at some point before that. I have no recollection of doing so.

Lucy only hopes that I remember to feed her.

I’m Just a Cardi Gal

It was mentioned in my comments on Friday that for a girl who claims she doesn’t like cardigans, I sure have been knitting a bunch of them.

Yes, I have, haven’t I?

I still do prefer pullovers to cardis. But there have been a heckuva lot of cute cardi patterns that I’ve wanted to make!

But for Dale 10903, I’m going to knit a pullover — it’s one of the pattern options. (By the way, Vera, the gauge is 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm on size 3mm needles.)

Which brings me to a question . . .

What Will Wendy Knit Next?

I’ve got lots of projects waiting in the wings! Some have been waiting longer than others. Like Marina (from AS Scottish Collection), which has been patiently waiting since last summer when I bought the Jamieson & Smith shetland for it.

Then there’s the Poetry in Stitches leaf sweater that I bought the kit for when I got my promotion in May.

And Dale 10903 I just mentioned.

And . . . ahem . . . another Dale design I haven’t mentioned yet, because I . . . uh . . . just ordered the Daletta (from the ever-wonderful Bea Ellis) for it.

Lotus.

Oh, did you notice that it’s a cardigan?

Also, I wanna knit an aran out of the blue Cascade 220 I bought last spring.

What’s a girl to do?

Big Sock News!

Last week a knitting buddy in Germany, Sabine Bröhl, translated my generic toe-up sock pattern into German and posted it on her site here. It’s that cool? I’m multi-national! Thanks, Bine!

The German version is linked to from the pattern on my website, too.

Frogner Update

I finished the body.

frogner0727.jpg

And I started a sleeve.

frogner0727a.jpg

I did machine stitch all the steeks on the body, in preparation for doing the front bands, the neckband, and setting in the sleeves. This was the first time Lucy’s seen me use my sewing machine and she got very excited. So much so that she had to take a rest afterward.

Hi Mom and Dad!

My parents left last week on a trip to Scandinavia, to visit my dad’s relatives. Here they are arriving at the airport in Vasa, Finland last Friday.

Have a good Monday, everyone.

One Little Sockie

Ooh! Ooh! Isn’t it cute?

sip072403.jpg

I’ve been on quite a roll with the socks lately. I went through a period of sock doldrums this past Spring, but now I’m back in the sock-saddle again.

As it were.

But after I knit the mate to this little cutie, I am going to knit a pair to give to my dad for Christmas. That would be my dad who has size 13 feet.

The horror.

The horror.

You can be durn sure his socks will be knitted from sport weight, not sock weight yarn.

Knitting Kitty Kuddles

(Sorry about the kutesy spelling there.)

lucy072403.jpg

We’ve had some discussion in the comments about lap cats and knitting. Lucy is the first cat I’ve had who will happily lie in my lap and let my knitting in progress not only touch her, but lay on her, drag over her, etc. It does not phase her. Given an opportunity, however, she would gladly chew on my prized ebony needles.

She will never be given that opportunity.

Oh, I forgot to show you — look what I got:

daletta10903.jpg

This is Daletta, ordered from the wonderful Bea Ellis, to knit this, the design I mentioned in my blog a couple of weeks ago.

dale10903.jpg

This is design #10903, from Dale book 109.

Don’t you all think this looks like a Solveig Hisdal design? I bet she designed it. I mentioned that to Bea, who told me that Hisdal did design for Dale, and that Dale doesn’t credit individual designers, so it’s not mentioned in the pattern book.

What do you guys think?

Have a great weekend! See you Monday.

And the Word of the Day is . . .

Barf-glob
/’bärf-gläb/ noun (plural -s) A wad of tangled yarn that comes out of the middle of a center-pull skein of yarn when you are attempting to knit from the skein.

Do you all think I should notify the Oxford English Dictionary?

This word came into being in my comments on yesterday’s post. It seems that I am not alone in my hatred of and disgust with barf-globs. There were some good tips for avoiding and dealing with barf-globs in the comments. Thanks, guys!

Frogner Update

I’m at the point where I am doing the neck shaping. At last!

frogner0723.jpg

In answer to Caroline’s question in yesterday’s comments, I’ve not yet found any problems with the pattern for Frogner. No errors that I’ve noticed.

So far, so good!

Lucy likes to lie in my lap while I knit on Frogner. One rather large, very furry, warm kitty plus the entire body of a wool sweater plus my continuing low-grade fever equals a somewhat warm and uncomfortable atmosphere in which to knit, even in my air conditioned home.

And that slows things down a mite. But there’s no way in hell I’m going to shove Lucy off my lap. As soon as she sees me pick up my knitting, she makes a mad dash for me and happily curls up in my lap, purring loudly. Sometimes she even sighs in contentment.

Sometimes it’s tough being a mom!

Lucy Sez

Have a great day and may all your skeins be barf-glob free.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Must we have these battles, over and over again?

Apparently we must.

In case you are wondering, I’m talking about the skein of Opal I’m using for my current SIP. I am of the opinion that it’s a center-pull ball and it thinks it isn’t. I am pulling yarn out of the center in great big globs that I have to untangle and wrap around the outside of the skein.

Doncha hate when that happens?

Uusually this phenomenon just happens at the start of the skein. You are groping around in the center of the skein, looking for the end, and you wind up pulling out half the skein. Which you then have to untangle and wind around the outside of the skein.

This ornery skein of Opal has barfed up a messy glob of yarn from its center four times so far. The only other skein of yarn I ever remember this happening with was . . . uh huh . . . another skein of Opal.

sip072203.jpg

I’ve been told that you have to pull out the end from the top of the skein (which can be determined by the direction that the label is put on the skein) for the yarn to come out smoothly, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference sometimes.

Thank goodness my Daletta is behaving like the well-brought-up, refined yarn that it is. It allows me to find the end, pull it out, and actually knit from it, drawing it neatly out from the center of the skein.

New! Improved!

Just because I’m such a sweetheart, I’ve posted some revisions to my Generic Toe-up Sock Pattern. I added some tips and put a bit more detail in the instructions for the heel. I did this just for you!

Now . . . don’t you feel special?

Lucy is jazzed.
