The Printemps Shawlette pattern is complete and available for sale on Ravelry, here.

Like Miss Woodhouse, it’s a “more than a triangle shawl.” You work double the increases on the outer edges as you do on the inner edges to get this shape.

To make it a more open and airy design, the lace motif for the body of this shawl features a double yarnover – you wrap your yarn around the needle twice in a row. As you work back on the wrong side over these two yarnovers on the wrong side, you will purl the first yarnover and knit the second yarnover.

The unblocked shawl measured 44” across the top and 16” down the center back.

Blocked it measures 56” across and 25” down the center back. These measurements are approximate, of course, because they depend on how severely you block your piece.

Yarn requirements — approximately 400 or less yards of fingering weight. The shawl pictured was knit with 1 114-gram 390-yard skein of Dragonfly Fibers Dragon Sock yarn, with 14 grams left over.

The shawlette at hand:

It has the somewhat uninspired working name of “Chevron Shawlette” due to the fact that the body pattern features a chevron motif. This one is a triangle shawl, just for a change.

The yarn is MadelineTosh Tosh Sock in the “Clover” colorway — such a soft pretty green, don’t you think? And it’s a dream to knit — so soft and springy.

I’m nearing completion on this, but the pattern won’t be available immediately. I have an idea for another shawl using the same pattern, but in a different shape. I’ll start on that when I complete this baby, and then offer both in one pattern.

Everyone loves a two-fer, right?

Lucy sez:

“If it is a two-fer of salmon treats, then the answer is yes.”

My new work in progress is being knit from Handmaiden Mini Maiden yarn, in the “Periwinkle” colorway. It’s a single ply wool/silk blend, fingering weight, with approximately 550 yards per 100 gram skein.

I bought two skeins of this somewhere along the way and rediscovered it in my stash room recently.

Here’s what I’m knitting from it:

It’s a shawl, and it’s another different shape. It’s based on a hexagonal shawl, where the shaping is done in 6 wedges that form a circle. I didn’t want to do another circular shawl, so I am doing fewer wedges and knitting back and forth instead of in the round. I didn’t want to do a half circle — I wanted it a bit bigger than that. So I decided on 4 wedges.

Here is a close-up of one wedge:

So far, I am loving this. The yarn is fabulous. I am particularly fond of wool/silk blends and this one is a keeper. I’m knitting it on a US size 6 (4mm) needle and love the look of it.

The pattern is my own, winkled together out of my fevered brain. I created a wedge chart in Excel and just started dropping yarnovers and decreases into it. I’ve revised it a couple of times so far as I knit, and may continue to do so.

Because it is 4 out of 6 wedges that make up a circle, it’s a Two-Thirds Shawl.

And that may become the final name of the pattern.

Meanwhile, Lucy is just lounging around. Ah, the life of a cat!
