I have started said stole and here it is.

This is more Madelinetosh Tosh Sock yarn, this in the “logwood” colorway. The stole will take more yarn than the shawlette, so I bought two skeins. But it is great fun to knit. The rows seem to zip by quickly because they are not growing. They are all x number of stitches, so I know exactly how long each row will take me. I find that somehow comforting.

All the same, I don’t think we are going anywhere soon. There have been reports of 18″ of snow in my area so far and we still have a few hours left to go for this storm.

Lucy doesn’t mind.

If you are in the path of a storm, I hope you are warm and safe. We are snug at home, I’ve got the heat on so Lucy is happy, and we’re well-stocked with all the necessities of life, that is, food, water, and yarn.

Thanks for all your good wishes. I’ve been to the spine doc and have an order to get an MRI, and a boatload of pain meds. So we are hanging in there.

Lucy sez:

“Come play with me?”

The Wollmeise is a lovely big skein — 575 yards. For this shawl, after you work the set-up chart, you can repeat the body chart as many times as you like (it is a 24-row repeat), and then work the edging chart. So I can sort of eyeball how much yarn I’ve got left as I work and decide when I need to stop doing repeats and work the edging.

I’m confident that my one skein will make a lovely good-sized shawl.

That is assuming I actually have time to knit on it. I’ve knit on the train the past two mornings, but was not able to get any lunchtime knitting in for one reason or another. And the trains have been too crowded for me to knit on the way home. I got an hour or so of knitting time in last night and expect to get about the same tonight.

It’s funny, the more I want to get something done, it seems like the less time I have to actually work on it.

And I won’t be knitting tonight — a botched blood donation (thank you, Red Cross) has left one arm bruised and throbbing.

So don’t expect much tomorrow.

The green is Madeline Tosh Lace — (colorway called “Grove”) .It’s 100% merino (superwash) with 950 yards per skein.

The variegated is their Pure Silk Lace, which is 100% tussah silk and has 1000 yards/skein. The colorway is “Wren.”

I have purchased these yarns purely for research, honest.

Oklahoma, OK!

I’m off to Oklahoma City tomorrow for a weekend of fun at SWAK in the City. I’ll be teaching toe-up sock toe and heel techniques, but will also be debuting my new class on things to do with leftover sock yarn. Here are a few of the things you can do:

“How can you go away and leave this?”

On the edge of my shawl, that is. At this point I’ve got almost two-thirds of the edging done.

I put the shawl down on the floor for a photo-op.

Lucy immediately went into spokesmodel mode. She wanted to demonstrate the size of the knitted piece for you.

She also spent a few minutes inspecting my work.

So the rest of today will be spent in edging-knitting, laundry, and other various household tasks. Oh, and I will start my next project.

I will likely not finish the Order to Chaos Shawl edging today, because I need to get this next project started so it is in a state where I can take it for commuter knitting tomorrow. And once I get started, I’m not going to want to put it down.
