Knitting Meetups!

You may have noticed that there’s a new button in my blog sidebar — for Knitting Meetup. Check it out! There’s going to be a meetup in the DC area on November 20. I’d really like to go to this. Right now there are three venues being voted on for the meetup. Two are in DC proper and one is in Alexandria, VA. I voted for Alexandria. While I work in Washington, I’d rather the meetup was in Northern Virginia because (a) it starts at 8:00pm, and (b) I get up at 4:15am on weekdays.

So the bottom line is, if the Alexandria venue wins, I’ll go. Otherwise I’ll have to skip it.

Any other Northern Virginia knitters out there looking for a knitting posse? Register with the Meetup site and vote vote vote! I’d love to have a local Stitch ‘n Bitch group to hang out with. There are some in this area but are in very inconvenient locations for me.

Stash Enhancement

Ooh! Ooh! I got yarn in the mail yesterday! Yep, my sock yarn from Wool Needlework Discounter. What nice people to deal with! They sent samples and some patterns for a vest, a hat, scarves, and a holiday ornament along with my order. Fun!

And speaking of socks . . .

Here is my Regia Stretch sock in progress. The color on this photo is a little truer than yesterday’s photo.

And last but not least . . .

I swatched for Fulmar. Here is my swatch in progress. I got the stitch and row gauge using size 3mm needles (the size called for). I’m going to make the smallest size of Fulmar and I’m using 5-ply guernsey wool.

Oh! I almost forgot!

A photo of Izzy. Of course.

  1. Caroline F says:

I almost ordered some Regia yesterday from WNW – was shipping really expensive? I’m glad to know they were nice to deal with, maybe I’ll order a little myself (as if I need to stash anything more…). I think I have the one on the bottom right of your picture. The other thing about WNW that I wondered was whether it was run by immigrants as the English in some of the pages was a little unusual!

  2. Caroline, for 8 skeins of Regia shipping was $7.11 (to U.S. from Canada) — my total payment for this order was $37.43. Pretty good I think. Comes out to 4.68 per skein with shipping included. And a couple of days ago they emailed me a 5% off coupon that’s good til November 20.

I’ll have to go back to the website and read — don’t remember the English being unusual (but then I probably didn’t read any of it the first time I was there!)

  3. Hi Wendy…
Your photos of Izzy inspired me to post a picture of my Nimmie to my blog. I linked to your site, hope that is okay! Check it out when you get a chance. Just take the link to Knitting Blog at the top of my homepage ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The Meet-Up thing is a great way to use the web to get real live people together. I signed up for a Knitting Meetup in my area last month but it was cancelled due to not enough interest. I’ve signed up again…ever hopeful! Hope your’s is a go!

  5. Hey Wendy! How is the Frangipani to work with? Scratchy? Soft? I’ve been holding off placing an order until you got started. It’s hard to tell for sure from the samples. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!

  6. Hi Wendy – love the Izzy pictures as always! ๐Ÿ™‚ About WNW… how long did it take to get your order? I just placed an order this morning and am wondering how long I have to wait! Thanks!

  7. Jann, the Frangipani guernsey wool is pretty much comparable to all other 5-ply guernsey I’ve used (which I think consists of Wendy brand and Poppleton brand) — it’s not what I would call soft, but it’s not scratchy either. It’s . . . uh . . . firm, if you know what I mean. I find it very pleasant to knit with.

  8. Amy, my WNW order took 6 days to get here — that was to the U.S. from Canada.

  9. Only 8 skeins Wendy! LOL, I ordered 19 skeins of Regia from them!! I just couldn’t control myself.

  10. Hi Jenny,

    19 skeins? Now I feel better. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Wendy – great to hear. I got an email that they shipped just today and since B.C. is close to Calgary, it will probably get here soon! Yay!

  12. Thanks for the tip Wendy! They have Noro Silk Garden at half price! I love your website. Regards to Izzy.

  13. hi Wendy!

I finally had a second to google Stitch and Bitches in Virginia and found you through there. I signed up for the NoVA meetup as well. I’m hoping for a NoVA suburb because I live in Leesburg and go to school at Marymount, and don’t really want to drive into D.C. just to knit.

I’ve just taught myself how to knit and finishing up my first ugly scarf. I’m so proud! ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for the meet up tip!

  1. Joliet meetup group

I just learned, via Bogga J, that there is a Joliet, “knit meetup group”. I signed up to receive information here.

Evidently, they meet the third Wednesday every month. Which means, I missed yesterday’s meeting. Drat!

    The existence of th…
