First Monday of the Year

And it’s back to work for me. Sigh.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes expressed on my blog and emailed to me — I really appreciated them. And thank you very much to those of you who sent me birthday cards too!

I had a good birthday — presents, seafood stir-fry for dinner, and champagne. Can’t get much better than that! Lucy gave me a birthday kiss:

But she quickly grew bored and wandered off.

I had a good weekend. We went to the mall, watched some movies. And I did some knitting on Abalone too:

I keep comparing my work to the photo in the book — this design is more vibrant in real life — in the book, the teals and green appear a lot more grey than they are in person.

I’ve done absolutely nothing on my Feather and Fan scarf for a week. But now that I’m back to commuting, the scarf will be completed quickly, I think. I’m more than halfway done with it, so a few days of riding the train ought to do the trick.

Also this week, I met the fabulous Kristine for the Official Great Stash Redistribution Project Box Hand-off. Kristine was kind enough to offer to bring the Cable GSRP box to me, the next recipient, so we met for coffee over the weekend. We met at a coffeshop in the mall, both whipped out our knitting, and had a nice chat. As you know from reading her blog, Kristine will be opening a LYS in a couple of months, so I wanted to hear all the details she could give me at this point.

I’ll blog about the GSRP box and my contributions to it tomorrow. right now, I gotta think about going to work.

Hope you all have an easy Monday!

  1. happy belated birthday! my computer’s on the fritz and i must have missed it ;-( abalone is really gorgeous!

  2. Glad you had a nice birthday and holiday time off. It’s always nice to have a vacation from work, but if you like your job, it’s always nice to return to the normal routine when it’s over too. Your Abalone is gorgeous, and the colors come across really nice with your new camera.
What a neat thing that you and Kristine got to meet up and exchange knit chat over lunch, and lucky for you, you’ll soon have a new yarn shop to visit.

  3. Somehow I missed that it was your birthday — happy birthday Wendy! :o)

  4. Happy belated birthday! The colors of Abalone are gorgeous. I hope your first “back to work” day goes smoothly.

  5. Those are some pretty fancy pants you’ve got there, Miss Lucy.

I’ve loved the pattern of Abalone but the gray colors in the picture just never appealed.

Did you you look at shade card and see how different the real sweater would be?

  6. Wendy, Happy Belated B-day! I’m quite taken with Abalone….this coming from someone usually lukewarm on fair isle designs….

  7. I’m jealous. Truly, I’m jealous – you’re so much far along on Abalone than I am. My project has been in the going for over 5 years and I’ve only just about gotten beyond the first pattern repeat, I think. Gee, I can’t remember – I’ll have to poke my head into the bag when I get home.

  8. does Kristin have any concerns having her shop so close to Springwater Fiber Workshop? Her shop really sounds great just seems the location is a bit “off” maybe.

  9. Happy Belated Birthday. Any time I want to be amazed, I just visit your site! Glad you had a good one. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Hi Wendy,
I didn’t see it mentioned, but are you doing Abalone as a cardigan? I know you have converted several cardigans to pullovers in the past and was interested to know. It would be kinda neat as a pullover!

  11. Happy Belated Birthday Wendy!! I can’t believe I forgot after the big Wendy Month last year. I hope you enjoyed it.

Abalone is looking very nice, love the colors.

  12. Morning, Wendy! Welcome back to Fedland. Looking at your knitting results, I’m sure you were much more productive at home!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And shame on you for giving me yet one more place to spend money on yarn. I’m looking forward to the grand opening of Knit Happens!

  13. Abalone is gorgeous! I think it would also be smashing in VY Hebridean colours! I hope it appears on Starmore Classics one day!

  14. lucy is SO stylin with those bellbottoms shes got on! ๐Ÿ˜€

  15. I think it’s a good bet, L-B, that Abalone will turn up on the VY site soon; Wendy seems to have a psychic link to what they’re kitting up next!

    Happy Birthday, Wendy!

  16. Chandra,I went home last night and tried matching up my VY Hebridean samples with the Abalone colours and it looked very promising! I was unsure about two of the lighter colours, though. I’d love to see the magic Alice could work with Abalone in Hebridean!
