My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

That’s right. I’ve abandoned Abalone. I hate it. It sucks. It’s ugly. It’s boring. Yuck, yuck, bleah, bleah, pooeys, pooeys!

Nah . . . just kidding. I still love Abalone. But I have abandoned it, though only temporarily.

You see, last summer Matt of Threadbear Fiber Arts asked me if I’d test knit a fair isle pattern for a teddy bear sweater, and I agreed. The project heated up a couple of weeks ago and I received the yarn:

Late Sunday night I received the pattern, so I started knitting it today. So Abalone is on hold until I finish the teddy bear sweater. I’m knitting the largest size (for a bear with a 19″ chest) so it’ll take a little while. Hmmmm . . . it looks like it might fit Lucy . . .

No, that’s a bad idea.

Also today, I felted my last Booga Bag that I finished a week or so ago. Pre-felted:

And felted:

This one’s going to my mom’s friend and neighbor.

Lucy had a busy day as well.

Back to work today. Have a bitchin’ Tuesday!

  1. love the colors for the teddy sweater.

  2. Hey!!! I was just about to say that!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. poor Lucy, too much work ! she is a slave indeed ?
Aren’t you ashamed Wendy. I think calling the ASPCA !
And not a little sweater for her. Life is struggle indeed, for all the cats.
Mine is very anxious : i go away tomorow for a pol, she discover the suitcase this morning. So, she is sick everywhere, and try to enter in my suitcase. Scuse me for this sentimental cat moment !!!
Have a good day. I am impatient to see the teddy bear sweater !

  4. Being a bit naive, I really thought you were abandoning Abalone. I thought maybe the pattern repeat wasn’t challenging enough. So gullible! Have a great day.

  5. Hey! If you abandon Abalone, I’ll take her in! heehee

  6. Good one! I thought “why the heck is she abandoning it – it’s beautiful!”. I should have known ; )

  7. *grin* As guckly as you knit, you should be back to Abalone by Friday. Maybe we should start taking bets on it in the forum! *cackle*

  8. Way to go with the teddy sweater! I do a lot of knitting for bears and am anxious to see your pattern.

  9. Pamela, it’s not my pattern — I’m simply test-knitting it for someone else. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Go Bears!! (Get it? Huh? Huh? Cal Berkeley Bears? Wendy’s Bear Sweaters? Go Bears!?) Um. Nevermind. I think *somebody* has had too much coffee. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. I hold my breath, abandone the lovely Abalone, the I could breathe again, it was just on hold.
The Abalone is a very nice thing, but I really like the teddy bear sweater. I would like to make one too, or a couple!

  12. I hold my breath, abandone the lovely Abalone, the I could breathe again, it was just on hold.

  13. I was taken, too. Nice bag, btw!

I’ll be interested to see the bear sweater — those colors don’t kill me, but I’m curious to see them in the pattern. It’s always interesting to see how colors change when they are arranged differently. (Like when you knit Amphora, I couldn’t believe it was only 4 colors.)

Stay warm! (Boy, I’m getting tired of saying that. Brrrr!)

  14. Add me to the list of dupe-ees. I read your first paragraph and thought “Wendy is going to join Alison’s ripalong! Wow, who would’ve thunk it???” It certainly would’ve made the headline of The KnitBlog Ring News. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. P.S. The headline being “Wendy Rips One!” *teehee*

  16. I am so glad you are working on the ThreadyBear test knit! I am so looking forward to doing this project- my first fair isle.

For all of you who are admiring the knitting so far, but don’t love the color, fear not. Matt (of ThreadBear) is going to sell the kit in 32 colorways!

  17. hi, I’ve been reading your blog occaisonally for awhile, n now I must ask…what are you blocking the Booga Bag on? I had so much trouble finding anything to block mine with..Tina-

  18. Put a little fur on the collar and cuffs and the bear sweater would go perfectly with Lucy’s bed.

    However, my cats disagree. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. I just finished a bag that is exactly like yours!
I blocked mine on a shoebox. It was a perfect fit.
Love your blog Wendy…love your pretty cat.
    You are very talented…wow.

  20. You had me for a second there! I really thought that you had lost your mind and abondoned that gorgeous sweater…whew!
