For My Secret Pal

The most excellent Heidi sent out a newsletter for participants in Secret Pal 2 and suggested we post some info about ourselves on our blogs to help out our Secret Pals.

1. Are you a yarn snob (do you prefer high-end/natural fibers)? Do you avoid Red Heart and Lion Brand? Or is it all the same to you? Yup. Yarn Snob.

2. Do you spin? Crochet? Neither.

3. Do you have any allergies? (smoke, pets, fibers, perfume, etc.) None that I know of, but I do have very sensitive skin.

4. How long have you been knitting? Since the Dawn of Time.

5. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? Not at the moment.

6. What’s your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.) Light florals and citrus.

7. Do you have a sweet tooth? Don’t eat sweets but once in a blue moon. Don’t snack, if I can possibly avoid it.

8. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Um . . . nothing, really. Big help, huh?

10. What’s your favorite color? Or–do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? My favorite color is green, but the only colors I really don’t like are yellow, grey, and navy blue.

11. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? Single, with one pampered cat-princess.

12. What are your life dreams? (really stretching it here, I know) To become the Empress of the Universe.

Noro Silk Garden

Marta asked for my opinion of the scratchiness of Silk Garden. I have no problem with it. That is, it’s soft enough to make me happy. But you opinion counts. What do you think? Scratchy or not? Help Marta out and leave a comment!

Speaking of Noro . . .

I finished the back of L&#246vlund and started the front.

Okay, it’s annoying me that I have to remember to type “&#246” instead of “o” every time I talk about L&#246vlund. so from now on I’m calling it Lovland.

The Return of Spongebob Stashpants

Spongebob would like to know if you missed him. Hard to believe that days went by without Wendy enhancing her stash, huh? I did do some enhancement on Tuesday at Knit Happens — just haven’t been home long enough at any one time to offer photographic proof.

The AbFab kit in the new Nightfall colorway. When Kristine got the new color cards from Colinette she pointed out that Lucy needed this throw. By gum, she’s right!

Kristine, Lauren is moping around at home because she misses you. I attempted to cheer her up by photographing her.

By offering her a Harry Potter Acid Pop, sent to me in her honor by L-B.

I even unwrapped it for her, for gosh sakes.

But all she wants to do is sit at the computer and gaze at Digital Yarn.

Lucy sez:

Geez! What a baby!

  1. Single?? What happened to Ian??

  2. Silk garden: I personally find that the mohair content means that I can’t wear it next to my skin (then again, I even find Rowan’s kidsilk haze too itchy) – if you don’t have a problem with mohair, you will probably be fine.

  3. Thank you so much Wendy for your opinion about Silk Garden – and for telling to leave comments about it! I am really grateful for it.
I am happy to see that Spongebob is still fine. I definitely missed him.

  4. I do love Silk Garden, but if you are very sensitive, you might not want it skin to skin, other than at the arms! Every once in awhile, you will find “a little bit ‘o the heath” spun into it. I don’t find that objectionable though.

I had just gotten the same colourway of the Collintte throw. I’ve done the “Meadow” colorway as straight stripes and liked how unfussy it looked, but think I’ll go wavy for “Midnight” – deep blues to “dive” into.

The silk pull looks sinfully luscious.

  5. I’m a little confused here: your questionnaire says you don’t like yellow, grey or navy blue, but you have just bought a navy/grey Colinette throw kit? Am I missing something?

  6. You need to adjust your monitor! My Colinette through kit has no navy blue nor grey in it. Colors display true on my monitor.

  7. I miss Lauren too. ::sniff::

  8. Lauren! Turn off the computer and go OUT for heaven’s sake. It’s FRIDAY.
I personally think Silk Garden is aptly named. A little silk, a little garden….if you are sensitive, wear a silk tee shirt under it for *protection*.
We missed SpongeBob….glad to see him swimming in luscious fiber!

  9. Yay, Spongebob! I missed you and your cute l’il smile.

    Lovland is purrrrrrty.

I love your answers to the SP questionnaire, Wendy. What exactly does one get the once-and-future Empress? I see tiaras and scepters in your future…*grin*

  10. I just like to follow Greta and Em in commenting.

    Digit says Lucy’s cute.

  11. Hi Wendy,
Lauren looks fab! I love the color and the sheen. I bet she feels nice to wear. Have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. patricia says:

I vote for not scratchy; I’ve only experienced it in a hat.

  13. Wendy,
I consider you to be the Empress of MY knitting universe! Have a great weekend. Love to Lucy!

  14. I’ve only used Silk Garden for one scarf, and I didn’t love it while knitting. However, it does make a nice fabric, and the colors are great. (Although I didn’t really love the colors of mine as I knitted it as much as I did in the skein.) OK, maybe I’m a tad ambivalent about SG, but I’m not joining in on Klaralund, so who cares what I think? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a great weekend — can’t wait to see Lovlund finished.

  15. Who lives in a storage bin under the yarn?
    SpongeBob Stashpants!

New sweaters and throws and ponchos so far
    SpongeBob Stashpants!

If Colinette goodness be something you wish
    SpongeBob Stashpants!

Run to the shop and build up your stash
    SpongeBob Stashpants!

  16. your secret pal says:

Hi Wendy and thanks for the informations, Iยดm am thinking back and forth how I could surprise you. :o)

  17. So wonderful to see SpongeBob back amongst yarn! Now I have got to get me one of those Harry pops. I love the AbFab Throw color!

  18. —>Single?? What happened to Ian??

    Inquiring minds want to know!

  19. I’m glad Marta asked the question. I’ve wondered about Silk Garden too. I’ve been to the LYS twice since deciding to knit Klaralund. I handled the SG both times.

Marta, it didn’t feel particularly scratchy on my hands but it definitely didn’t feel smooth. It was not rough, just a little “textured.”

I’m still wary but if your skin isn’t really sensitive, I think you’ll be okay.

  20. enjoyed the look and color of silk garden, but cannot wear it against my skin(even bothered my hands). i second the motion of a little tee shirt for protection.

  21. I’m voting for scratchy. I started a multi-directional scarf which was lovely, but, oh so scratchy! I ripped the scarf and ordered more yarn for a vest! I’m intrigued by the Klaralund sweater, but afraid of investing the money and time in a sweater I may not be able to wear!

  22. loveisallaround says:

Yarn snob, you? Never would have crossed my mind. One word: retirement. Hope you got some. Kisses Wendala

  23. The sweater I’ve made which gets the most mileage is a raglan crewneck made of Silk Garden. I dont find it scratchy in general (I would say I have moderately sensitive skin) but like all mohair I have, I find it is prickly on my skin if I am sweating a bit. Is that odd? I dont know. Anyway, the solution is obvious: if I am warm enough to be sweating, I can probably take the sweater off!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Hey Wendy, I thought you would appreciate this: Lucy can have her very own webshrine! My cats are linked from

  25. You asked for comments about Silk Garden, well here is mine: I once used the yarn for a scarf, that turned out just wonderful referring to the colours. But I am very sensitive and definitely couldn’t stand it around my neck. (The final recipient, a friend of mine, liked it.) So: Klaralund – not for me, definitely to scratchy :-((

  26. Welcome back, Spongebob! Glad to see you again. i didn’t realize that Spongebob could only hang out with new stash!

  27. I knit a sweater in Silk Garden, knowing that I have sensitivity to wool, especially mohair. Yep, the Silk Garden is itchy, so I only wear it with a turtleneck underneath. Wendy, that Nightfall is gorgeous.
