My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Greetings From Sleeve Island

I’ve spent the holiday weekend on Sleeve Island.

I finished the first Liam sleeve on Sunday. And made one heckuva good start on the second sleeve yesterday — see?

The end is in sight, mes amies! Just gotta finish this second sleeve, put this bad boy together, and knit a neckband. Then Liam is finis, finito — stick a fork in him!

September Contest

Judging from the number of entries I’ve received already, you really, really want this calendar! And yes, all you have to do to be entered in the drawing is to send an email to the address listed in Monday’s blog entry. Anyone can enter. No matter where you live. No, wait — there’s one restriction. You have to live on Planet Earth.

Labor Day

. . . was spent laboring. Laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning. Yuck. And of course, the afore-mentioned Liam-sleeve-knitting. And, there was a What Not To Wear marathon on! I confess to having the television on and tuned in to it from noon til 8pm.

Lucy Loves Her Catnip Cigar

Oh my gosh — this is her new favorite toy!

Critter Knitters Raffle

Liz has sent me the list of winners, and will be posting said winners today, I believe, so check her blog.

Now it’s up to me to mail out all the prizes. This is a huge, huge task, so I’ll have to ask the winners to please be pateint with me. Matching up the winners with the prizes, packing prizes for mailing, and schlepping to the post office are all time-consuming tasks, so it’ll take me weeks to get all the prizes mailed out. But I will mail every week, and as I mail, I’ll email those whose prizes I’ve mailed so you’ll know they are on their way.

And once again, thanks from Liz, Sage, and me for your participation in this project. What a huge success it’s been!

Back to Work?

Nah. I took today and tomorrow off. Guess where I’ll be? If you said Knit Happens, you would be correct.

  1. Freudian slip, perhaps? Winers (whiners) or win(n)ers? Thanks for the grin!! I’m looking forward to reading about your Klaralund sweater.

  2. I hope the cabana boys were good to you and served you lots of fruity drinks ๐Ÿ™‚

Congrats to the winners, and good luck on getting all those packages sent out. What a task! [Wendy rocks, friends.]

  3. Hi there !
to avoid “hollidays on sleeve island”, i always knit both sleeves at the same time, on the same needle, with 2 different skeins.
I like it this way, but i remember that Claudia (Igor’s mum) wrote about that some monthes ago, and she dislike it, so………
Good luck for packaging , and tell Lucy tobacco is not goog for health !

  4. My competition email was returned as undeliverable with this message:

I’m nt quite sure what is going on!

  5. I’m with you. I took an additional day off so I don’t have to return to work today with everyone else. And Wednesday is my regular day off… hey, no work for me until Thursday. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a couple of rounds to go to finish up my sock and then onto my Wendy-inspired Colinette Poncho. Oh yes… and Handpaint Heaven’s sale… have to see if there’s more there for me as well.
    Enjoy your day off!

  6. Hi Wendy,
Just wanted to tell you how much much I enjoyed your “guest hosts.” Loved all about knitting but REALLY loved your Mom’s 2 beautiful kitties!! They remind me so much of my Teakie and Soonie (except Soonie has only 1 eye). Please pass along meezer hugs to both and to Lucy too – of course!!

  7. Wendy.. there is a special post just for you on August 31st of my blog.. you were out last week and didn’t get to see it on the original day.. but I LOVED the quest bloggers. It was fun.

  8. Hooray for taking another day(s) off after the holiday. I am sooooo glad to be on vacation this week.

Too bad I don’t have a LYS to sit and knit at this week. I really have to get out there and find another one that I like.

Loved the picture from Knit Happens while you were away, they missed you.

You have this thing for Sponge Bob, and so does my pup Asio. I’ll have to post a picture of him with his Sponge Bob toy.

Enjoy your time off, and happy knitting.

  9. Hi Wendy! Have a nice time at KH today (and tomorrow?). We’ll hold down the federal fort for you until you get back. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Hey Wendy! well, we were going to get another rescue Siamese, but I’m sure Lucy will understand… My friend rescued 2 3-wk-old babies last week (some idiot locked them in a box in a apartment building’s basement storage locker – grrr) and we took one.

His name’s Spike, and just yesterday, his ATTACK THE KNITTING instinct kicked in. He curled up on the item I was making, batted his paws at the circs (the moving tips, no less) and the yarn, too.

    Here’s my boy being good:

My blog’s broken, btw, so I can’t read comments, but wanted to share our newest yarn-lover with you!

  11. I watched What Not To Wear all day yesterday too! Now I don’t feel so goofy about it knowing I wasn’t the only one.

  12. Welcome back! Welcome Back WELCOME BACK! I enjoyed reading your guest bloggers very much. And it’s good to have you back. Also, congratulations on being written up in the POST’s great knitting article. When are you teaching the lace class? Love to Lucy,

  13. I also indulged in the WNTW marathon. It seems that it is quite common for middle aged short people with big boobs can’t find anything that fits – hello, clothing manufacturers!

  14. I’m so glad Lucy likes her cigar! I had been originally planned to send a bunch of napkins (since I know she loves to play with them!), but I decided to take the chance. I don’t know what kind of catnip they put in these toys, but my cats go nuts over them!

  15. Wendy, I thought of you tonight when my three year old daughter came home from preschool and showed me her SpongeBob Squarepants underpants. Only problem is she doesn’t own any SpongeBob underwear! It’s just a little strange that when my kid comes home in someone else’s underwear, I’m immediately struck that it’s your favorite cartoon character. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Hey Wendy- If you need any $ to mail out the packages (because there are SO many prizes!!!) I can probably send you like $10.
