My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

He and Katarina are getting to know each other.

Single drive, scotch tension. What a concept. I fiddled with it, spun some practice fiber, fiddled some more and ding! My moment of zen. The light bulb turned on. Lenny is quiet, smooth, and debonair. My singles were looking quite even and nicely twisted in short order.

The Perfect Margarita

Sara asked:
What is your favorite flavor of margarita?

As far as I’m concerned, this is the ultimate margarita:

1 ounce tequila
1 ounce cointreau
1 ounce key lime juice

Served over ice. No salt, no frozen crap. YUM.

Except when I make ’em, it’s usually 3 ounces tequila, 3 ounces cointreau, 3 ounces key lime juice. Saves having to get up and make another one. Ya know?

By the way, shortly after posting last night, I saw an advertisement on FX that they were doing a 24 hour marathon of Jingle All the Way Christmas Eve into Christmas Day (as mentioned in the comments by Kim). Upon hearing that, I felt woozy with horror. Why would a television network want to torture their viewers?

By the way, I have nothing against A Christmas Story (though I will admit it’s not one of my favorites). I just don’t “get” showing the same movie over and over and over for 24 hours.

This is my last post until after Christmas. Thanks for all the good wishes, fun, and friendship. Happy Holidays to all!

  1. Happy holidays to you too !
Lenny looks fab and seems to be settling in just fine. :0)

  2. Happy Holidays Wendy! Enjoy the next few days.

  3. Would that pattern be Lucy? Merry Christmas!

  4. Hi Wendy,

I just want to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas. Thank you so much for your entertaining and wonderful blog. I really enjoy and learn much from it. Your spinning is amazing…it looks like you were born knowing how to spin. Hugs to Lucy too.

  5. Wendy: Shhhhhhh. Don’t tell Jen, but I don’t get the appeal of “A Christmas Story” at all. I saw it once, and thought….meh. This’ll be our little secret, k? K.

  6. Here’s wishing you a happy Christmas holiday and many warm wishes for a New Year full of love, happiness, knitting, and spinning, in what ever order seems good to you!

  7. Happy holidays to you, too, Wendy! Thanks for just being you! P.S. I’ve just discovered the delicious joys of raspberry daiquiris. Tee hee hee!

  8. I had to go Google “A Christmas Story”. I’ve never heard of it! Our commercial channels in Australia are being very low key this year. Hardly any purely Christmas movies. We have Hunt for Red October on Christmas night, along with Sleepless in Seattle and (another unknown to me) Christmas Lights. Christmas Eve? That old Christmas class Bridge on the River Kwai. Or I could watch some folks called Nick and Jessica (??) or The Simpsons. The choice is just too much! Wine and knitting, I think it will be. Peace and happiness to all. Let’s all return safely next year to knit some more.

  9. Margarita’s Wendy style! Thats what I need. Have a very, very Merry Christmas!!

  10. “He and Katarina are getting to know each other.

    Single drive, scotch tension.”

You know my eyes are working funny when I read that as “He and Katarina are getting to know each other. I gave them a SINGLE MALT SCOTCH”

    Merry Christmas!

  11. Happy holidays Wendy! Those beautiful wheels are almost enough to make me want to learn to spin. Almost. :::grin::: For now I’ll continue to live vicariously through you.

  12. Merry Christmas, Wendy, and happy spinning!

I’m with Jenn. I read lots of whiskey in the early part of the entry and was completely thrown by the Margaritas at the end.

Mixing drinks like that makes me woozy!

    Another Wendy

  13. Oooh, Lenny is a cute little man! Congratulations on the purchase of your second non-furry child!

Merry Christmas to you and Lucy!!

  14. Merriest of Christmasses from me and the crazy kits! MWAH!

  15. Thank you Wendy for entertaining me with your blog all year and inspiring me with your knitting and now spinning!! Have a very Merry Christmas and a Spinningly Happy New Year!! Love Jacinta xxx

  16. Dear Wendy,
have wonderful holidays – and thank you for the margarita receipt! It is my favourite drink, too.

  17. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Ian and Lucy!

And thank you for the enjoyment and entertainment yo have provided us with over the year.

  18. Merry Christmas Wendy! Have a safe and happy holiday

  19. Do I recognize Lucy in the knitting? Or am I getting daft as I get older?

    Happy Christmas to you, Wendy.

  20. Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas, Wendy!!!

  21. I think they run one movie over and over so that everyone can go home and have a nice holiday, except for the poor schmuck who has to make sure the tape keeps running! I’m with you – why not make it a classic, like Miracle on 34th Street, White Christmas, or Christmas Carol, or even The Grinch (ha, ha)? Oh, well. Pass me that other glass of wine, will ya—

Happy Holidays to all, whichever your Holiday may be!!!

(Wendy, you’re making me want to spin again—maybe I’ll oil up the Wee Peggy and get going)

    Mary Lou

  22. Merry Christmas, and happy spinning and knitting in the new year!

  23. Merry Christmas Wendy! Looks like spinning is settling in!

  24. Congrats on adopting Lenny.

Another question to go along with the Christmas Story, Jingle all the way was filmed here, & I am still curious how the same cop could be stopping our hero in two different counties. Only in Hollywood.

Have a merry Christmas. Tell Lucy that she needs to learn to spin.

    Kathy in Mpls

  25. God Jul, Wendy!

We are having a “small” smorgas tonight – meatballs, mashed potatoes, korve, cheeses, sausage, knackebrod, lingon, pepparkakor, three other kinds of cookies, and champagne. And a salad – nontraditional, but this IS California. All this before we all troop over to church (we’re all in the choir). My friend who is co-hostessing will being me rice pudding for breakfast – my tomte is on Pacific Standard time.

  26. Merry Christmas Wendy!! Thanks for all the knitting knowledge and laughter…I appreciate it!!

  27. The woman who taught me to spin has had almost every wheel imaginable in the past 29 years. (At present she has 8). Her favorite? The Lendrum.

  28. Just finished the last of my wrapping for the kids, and finally had a chance to see Lenny! How wonderful! And you’re already working so well with him! It was nice to end my early morning work by checking in with you. Thanks for keeping up my spririts this year. It has been a little sanctuary to come to and think of fiber and the comfort it brings. Have a wonderful holiday and last few days of 2004!

  29. Congrats on Lenny Wendy!! He and Katrina could make such beautiful babies!!

    Happy Holidays!
