My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Oh No I Di’n’t

Contrary to what most of you who voted in the poll believe, I have not yet started my next knitting project.

(Though I gotta say, it’s heartwarming to see that the majority of those who voted believe I am a lying sack of sh*t. I must put that on my resume. It should help me with career advancement. *snicker*)

The correct answer will probably be that I will start my next project after I’ve finished Deli completely. I will likely finish knitting the edging at some point tomorrow, Friday, so I’ll have plenty of non-commuting time to sew lace. The only reason I would start the tennis sweater early would be if I needed it for commuter knitting, but I won’t need that ’til Monday.

Last night I set in the sleeves on Deli and this evening I sewed the side seams.

So far, so good. There were a couple of questions in the comments asking how I was attaching the lace edging to the sweater. Just plain ol’ mattress stitch, using the yarn. I’m very pleased with the results. And it looks even better after a gentle steaming with the ol’ iron. The photo I posted yesterday was apres steam iron.

Stephanie in NZ (nice to hear from you again, btw!), I didn’t do anything to the lace before seaming — just pinned it to the edge, being careful not to stretch it.

If I remember, I’ll try to get some “action shots” over the weekend of lace sewing in progress, but it’s really nothing special. Just mattress stitch.

By the way, I bought this dress to hopefully wear Deli with:

On sale at Ann Taylor.

Oh, and in answer to Andrea about who designed Deli, I checked the pattern book and it says “12 designs in Cashsoft and Cashcotton DK by Martin Storey.”

Vogue Knitting

In the comments, Susan mentioned the bolero in the new Vogue Knitting. That pattern is the reason I decided to buy the magazine. I have four skeins of La Luz in “Vanilla Bean” that will be perfect for that pattern.

But I do have to point out that I was busily picking out four more skeins of La Luz at Knit Happens before I remembered that — duh — I already had a bunch.

Tomorrow (April 1) is my blog’s three-year anniversary. I think I need to break out the dark chocolate and margaritas in celebration.

  1. Happy Anniversary!! Thanks for all the knitting, stories and kitty pictures! Here’s to continued blogging!

  2. Lucy looks like she started celebrating early. Smart girl. πŸ™‚ Congrats on the blogiversary!

  3. Happy anniversary, you’re a veteran in this new world! I read your blog every day and love your knitting Wendy. Can’t wait for your book.

  4. Happy Blogiversary, Wendy!
I’m thinking about starting one of my own. Any advice?

  5. Funny how I think three years in blogland is a looongg time, but three years in real life is like a few minutes to me :-). I must be getting old.

  6. Happy Blogiversary, Wendy! Your new AT dress is tres jolie!

  7. Happy Blogiversary! I really love the color and style of Deli. Can’t wait to see her in action. Plus that dress you picked out for it is beautiful!

  8. happy blogiversary πŸ™‚

  9. Three years–wow! I have to say that your blog has been one of my biggest inspirations since I discovered the world of knitting blogs, so I hope it keeps going for many more years!

  10. Happiest of Blogiversaries! Break out some champagne and cashmere!

  11. …runs in and grabs a ‘rita….

    To the blogiversary!

    Bottoms up.

  12. Happy anniversary! I am so glad your blog exists! Your light touch and clever remarks always bring a smile to my face. Thanks for keeping it going! Tell Lucy to use TINY margarita glasses! Remember the alcohol-to-body-weight ratio for kitties – sorry, I don’t know what it is, but I do know that my siamese (no longer around, but fondly remembered) used to try to lick the plate on which we had marinated the steak when my dad used his Jack Daniel’s marinade recipe. No, we did not return the steak to the same plate after grilling, and it was not a regular part of her diet! Oh, and happy birthday to my mother-in-law, who is such a good sport about the teasing she gets for being born on 4/1!

  13. We should have known your persistence would win the day! Speaking of which – a very happy blogiversary and many happy returns!

  14. Stephanie says:

Congratulations Wendy – reading your blog is a very happy part of my day. T’you for answering my question. I shall begin sewing the lace on tonight.

    Gorgeous dress.

  15. Happy anniversary!

Thanks for all your inspiration, Lucy pictures and everything else.

Although I visit you every day, I rarely make any comment ‘cos it would always be the same – see above!

    Love and Kisses

  16. Happy Blogiversary!!! It has been an inspiration to start reading your blog every day. Deli is looking great. Can’t wait to see the finished sweater. Keep on blogging, you are the best.

  17. Jennifer says:

    Happy Anniversary!

Have a margarita for me, as I’ll be stuck all evening at the Spaghetti Dinner for my son’s baseball team. But hopefully I’ll be able to get some knitting in while I’m there!

  18. Happy Blogiversary Wendy! Thanks for keeping it up.

  19. Today’s the day! Happiest of blogiversaries, dear. Glad to know you.

  20. Happy Blogiversary, Wendy! I read you every morning, at work, with my coffee in hand.
    Take care,

  21. Love the dress, and the sweater is looking great.

    mmmm…. dark chocolate….hapy blog-iversary!

  22. Best wishes on your anniversary, Wendy!

Goodness knows your work has helped turn me into a more assertive, creative and energetic knitter!BTW, given how you revile the sewing part, why didn’t you knit the lace onto the body? I haven’t seen the pattern, but could that have been done?

See what I mean? BWB(before Wendy’s Blog) I never would have thought of that!

  23. Happy 3rd Blog-i-versary!

  24. Valerie says:

Happy Blogiversary, Wendy! I read you every week day when I arrive at work. Most days I have to try to contain my laughter, as I sit in one room with 3 other people. (None of them knit, so they just wouldn’t understand.) But where is Lucy’s party hat for the big celebration?

  25. Three years! Hooray for you, hooray for your blog, and most of all HOORAY for the WENDYCENTRIC worldview πŸ™‚
xox from your horrid lil pals in Austin

  26. jessica says:

In my defense…I do not think you are a sack of anything…but I wasn’t given another choice on the poll! ( You set us up!) The truth is I just think you’re a knitting wonder woman and was sure you were probably knitting some Γ…S fairisle in your sleep or something!
    ; )

    Have a great weekend!

  27. And another thing:

Happy Anniversary! I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your blog, for the times you have emailed me tips and information, and for the world of knitting you have opened up for me vis a vis the internet (Knit Happens, Skinny Rabbit, etc.)

I send you lots of warm wishes!

    Your fan,

  28. Susan Maurer says:

Happy Blogiversary! I’m so glad you’re out there! Your knit wit is such a joy to visit, and I really love your gallery! It’s an inspiration and keeps the rest of us out here spending more dollars and keeping the (knitting) economy pumped! Can’t wait to see Deli in the gallery and also your new La Luz bolero! Vanilla bean, huh? White is a good choice for that. Goes with everything. Kind of like ‘ritas! Nice dress, too! Are you gonna pose just like that for the photo with Deli? Better put the dress on for that pic! Happy blog-versary! Better go buy yourself something. Let’s see… what could you buy….? πŸ™‚ Haven’t spent much at Knit Happens lately, have you? Hmmm…Not today! Run! Run!

  29. Happy Anniversary, sweet Wendy!

  30. Happy Anniversary! So glad you didn’t stop blogging back then…
By the way, I voted correctly about when you would start your next project – not because I really believed you would wait until the edging was done, but because there is no way I would ever call you a lying sack of, well, you know. If you had phrased that option differently, though…

  31. Happy Anniversary x 3! And Bravo! It’s a pleasure to read your blog every day – you write with such wit, love and conviction. In these difficult times, you make a world of difference. Here’s to you and your blog!
    Love to Lucy,

  32. Wendy – thanks for answering my question. Storey does some nice designs, but I still miss Hargreaves. πŸ™

Happy blog birthday! Maybe you’ll get that lace sewn on in time to wear Deli and that FAB dress out to celebrate! πŸ˜€

  33. Wendy,
Happy 3rd Anniversary! Thought I’d let you know that not only are you an inspiration to me in all things knitting but also in blogging. Yours was really the first one I had ever read that actually had usefulness AND humor. As a new knitter, it was like sitting down with a cup of coffee and watching someone with knitting skills right next to me. And it was fun to read about how knitting fit into your life everywhere! Amazingly, Wendy and Sponge Bob (has he been on vacation?) were worked in and rounded out a reading experience that sometimes just makes me giggle.

I decided it was something I wanted to learn how to do too. Since that first leap, I’ve learned some HTML, how to post pictures the hard way and the easy way, and how to tweak my page template. Expanded posts still are a challenge. I’ve found KAL’s where I’ve learned how to do new things in knitting and have had questions answered while sitting at home in my PJ’s. Your blog was a huge first step for me in finding other things to knit, to read, to write about and to do!!

So, thanks Wendy for making my morning cup of coffee fun and a learning experience. And tell Sponge Bob to come back.

  34. Oh, chocolate, margaritas….I’m on my way.

  35. Happy Anniversary, and I can’t stress this enough Deli is SO gorgeous, and it is going to look HOT with that dress!! Good work!! πŸ™‚

  36. Happy anniversary! Here’s to many more years (and margaritas) in blogland! (Love your Deli)

  37. That dress is awesome – you’ll look gorgeous and what a great match to the sweater.

Happy anniversary to my favorite blogger (don’t tell the other bloggers I said that). πŸ™‚

  38. Happy anniversary!

I’m glad you’ll be posting some ‘action’ pictures of the sewing on of lace. While you say it is ‘nothing special’ I look forward to learning how to accomplish the attachment that looks so wonderful!

Thank you for your blog and your sharing of your wisdom. It is greatly appreciated!

  39. Susan Maurer says:

Kim brought up a good point, Wendy. Your blog is not only so much fun because of the humor and the knitting, but it’s so well-organized. It’s easy to maneuver and has all the necessary ingredients (links and webrings, search function, anally organized archives :-)…

I for one am particularly grateful for how well you’ve documented items in your gallery. Since it’s your 3rd blog-versary, if it’s not too much trouble, I for one would be interested in knowing some pointers about getting started on blogging. I’ve visited blog-sites where you can just sign up, but I think yours is far better than those formats.

I know how to access the code beneath your page, but it’s really more helpful to know from one’s own experience what works and what doesn’t. If you feel so inclined at some point, would you share with us some tidbits about how you got it all set up and what you’ve learned?

  40. Great site! Wonderful sweater, but it will be even more awesome combined with your AT dress. Very impressive! Congratulations on your blogiversary! Three years, Wow!

  41. Thanks for three years of morning coffee with your blog. You’ve inspired so many knitters and made bloggers of many. Congrats!
I had my dark choc. w/ a shot!

  42. Claudia W says:

Happy Blog-iversary and wishes for many more years.

Wendy, the AT dress is beautiful. What a great color match to Deli who is looking fantastic.

  43. Lucy: Celebratory Roll!
