My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Such Good Timing

Timing is everything, ya know?

As I was nearing the finish line on the Ribbed Sweater, I was thinking about future projects, getting my knitted ducks in a row, as it were.

I’m going to the Knitter’s Review Retreat the first weekend in November, and L-B and I are planning on casting on for new projects right beforehand for retreat kntting. So I don’t feel like starting anything major right now.

Then I read the Sky Queen’s blog and find this:

A mitten-along! How timely!!

So . . . I forsee some mittens in the near future.

Hmmmmm . . . perhaps a two-color Scandinavian design . . .

Speaking of the Ribbed Sweater

I finished it. Yay!

The Official Bathroom Mirror Self-Portrait.

I love this sweater. I love this sweater more than anything else I’ve made in recent memory. Even though it was close to 80 degrees when I tried it on, I can well imagine how comfy and warm and happy I’ll be wearing this come winter.

I actually used two more skeins of the Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk than the pattern called for. Well, one skein and a bit of the second. I knit exactly to gauge and didn’t alter the pattern a bit. I was a little surprised, as I usually use less yarn than a pattern calls for. Your mileage may vary, but that was my experience.

Can Anyone Guess What This is For?

Lucy knows, but she’s not saying!

  1. Ugg booties? It’s gotta be ugg booties.

  2. With those colors, it looks like you’re going to knit Lucy. All that’s missing is some blue. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. What Emily said.

  4. I think the Ugg booties is a great guess. My daughter (9) is knitting a doll blankie with that plush, and it is sooooo sooooooft! Bonus: hugely forgiving, for a new knitter.

  5. I am dying to do those Ugg booties one day!

  6. I would guess Ugg booties too, but I’m *so* glad you posted photos of that yarn because I’ve been “dreaming up” a purse pattern all day, and that white plush yarn would be perfect for the part I couldn’t figure out a yarn for! Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Mary Beth says:

Ugg booties gets my vote too!

  8. Yep, ugg booties. Or the hat thst goes with ’em. I like the thought of knitting a Lucy, though!

  9. LOL! OOh ooh how about Ugg booties FOR Lucy?? Like she would ever allow anyone to put shoes on her precious paws…would take a buncha Greenies to even aproach speaking terms after that, LOL!

  10. Miss Wendy, I wanna see the neck! Also, I’ve always wondered…who is L-B?

  11. A vest? (with more yarn of the same color)

  12. Wonderful sweater! Looks warm and comfy!

  13. I would have to guess a hat, since it doesn’t look like enough yarn to knit booties, unless they’re for babies!

    Or maybe gloves.

    Or maybe a scarf.

    What do I know? Heh.

I love that sweater, it looks so warm and comfy! I’m seriously considering making one for my mom, since she recently tossed this huge, nasty yellow cardigan she’s been wearing since the 70’s (it’s about time, heh!)

  14. Strange, the first thought I had upon seeing that yarn was that it would match Lucy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. I’m guessing they are Uggs for Lucy. Winter being on the way and all. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. A companion for Lucy. One that won’t eat her Greenies!

  17. I was going to say what Jenn said! Looks like a Lucy to me — just need a dab of blue for the eyes.

  18. Definitely Ugg Booties….I’d love to see the neckline on your sweater!

  19. Love the sweater, simple, warm and cozy. And I like the idea of a mitten a long, I could use a sock break…

  20. I love the sweater. It looks super comfy!

  21. I think that you might be knitting another Lucy…

  22. A bed for Lucy?
Totally agree with all the comments about the sweater. It rocks.

  23. I gotta warn you about the Uggs: too fiddly to live, too cute to die! Darling darling though. xox Kay

  24. I love your sweater – beautiful! And Alpaca Silk – meow! As for your pile – I do believe those will be Ugg Booties!

  25. The sweater looks super comfy. Congrats on another job well-done!
I’ll be interested to see what mittens you decide to cast on for. I’m looking through my Folk Mittens book for a Scandinavian design myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. I was going to say Ugg Booties, too. But not for Lucy! You wouldn’t do that to your precious cat.

As for running out of yarn, I’ve been told that either DB patterns understimate the amount of yarn needed or that the amount of yarn in the DB balls is short! I’m not sure which is the true problem. But the sweater looks good!

  27. The sweater looks great from what I can see. I do appreciate you doing the self portrait, but I would like to see how the neck etc look…I think Lucy or The King of Remote Controls should learn how to use your camera! LOL (Don’t they make camera remoes?!) The chocolate brown color makes that sweater look luxurious!

  28. One of the things I love about Dale patterns is that they often include accessories to match the sweaters. Maybe one of your gorgeous Dales needs a pair of mittens to go along with it? ๐Ÿ™‚ I was thinking about trying some of the mittens and/or hats for practice before taking on a whole Dale sweater. Some of them are quite pretty.

  29. Yep, gotta be the Ugg booties. Sometimes I miss having a wee one to knit for. Baby things go so fast.

And where is Torino fitting into the knitting schedule? I’ve ordered my Falk for it. With all the interest, maybe we should have an Olympic Knitting Event. Would you call that a Lympalong?

  30. Absolutely. I made the Ugg booties and earflap hat from Candy’s book last year. It was a fun project, and too, too funny and cute to see on a bebe’.

  31. Mitten along you say? I’m going to be brave and try some mittens from Folk Mittens for a Christmas gift. I may have to join for moral support. The Ribbed Sweater looks great.

  32. Judging by those colors, it looks like you’re planning to knit another Lucy!

  33. If it isn’t Ugg bootees, it could be. I have the same yarn in the stash right now, destined for just that (those?).

I joined “Warm Hands”, too, and have several pair of mittens percolating along in the back of my head. I do want to make more from “Folk Mittens”, but the pattern for the first pair I knit had some problems, so I’m a bit leery. I just got “Favorite Mittens/Fox, Geese & Fences” from the library. Several patterns in there look good.

  34. Great job on the sweater, Wendy. I hope you’ll get someone else to take a pic, though, so we can see the neck — it’s an intriguing design with those crossing (or nearly so) raglan seams.

  35. YOur knitting 4 ugg botties for LUcy. Won’t she look cute.

  36. Contrary to the pattern instructions, it’s one ball of fluffy yarn short for the Femme Hunter earflap hat pattern ‘Amelia’ from Berocco #229 Adornments. I discovered that when I made it last January. So maybe it’s not that.

  37. Susan Maurer says:

Not Ugg booties. A toy for Lucy – either a mouse or a groundhog. Don’t ask me why I came up with those. Maybe cuz Wilma’s headed our way here in Florida (maybe). Brain drain today. At least it’s not named Bam Bam.
Hey, if it is Ugg booties, since that’s what the majority is thinking, can you name a source for a pattern? I lived Down Under once up a time and their sheepskin Ugg booties are the BEST! Would be fun to knit a pair.

  38. Ugg boots.
    That’s my guess.
I’m glad you are joining the mitten fun! And YES to 2 color scandinavian design!
