My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Thank You!

Thank you for all the comments and emails about my book. I am so very excited about it — I guess it is real, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚

I do think it’s a tad mean of Amazon not to be shipping it out yet when other places are, but no doubt there are Reasons. I’m assuming they will do next week on the 25th, as they say they will.

Psst! Wanna win a copy of my book?

Send an email (one email per person, please) to The Official WendyKnits Contest Email Address by Thursday, April 20, 2006, 5:00pm EST telling me you’d like a copy of Wendy Knits: My Never-Ending Adventures in Yarn. I will select an entry at random and send that individual a copy from my book stash.

I Turned the Heel — Alert the Media

Yes indeedy, I turned the heel on my alpaca sock. So it is on to the feather and fan! Perhaps at some point I will incorporate a different lace pattern into my socks, but for now I am still feeling the feathery-fan love.

And Lookie Here!

Kerry! Comin’ down the home stretch! Wheeeee!

So there’s just a bit left to knit on this, then the blocking and the seaming and then — presto-chango — FO City, baybee.

I’ve been musing about what to knit next. Hmmmmmmm . . .

I’ve got another cabled design lurking in the mists of my brain, so perhaps I’ll swatchy swatchy swatchy for that.

I’ve also got this lovely stuff waiting to be spun.

Today Lucy demonstrates the proper position for “kitty rug.”

She also demonstrates the positon for “Hey b*tch! Feed me!”

  1. Ah, the kitty rug. At my house, we call that “splutkitten”.

  2. I’m sure Lucy doesn’t talk like that!!

  3. Love that kitty rug pose!

  4. I’m having Amazon send my book to Cindy so she can get it signed for me! Weeeee. Lucy does look a little annoyed about the food thing, but she’s too sweet to talk to her mom like that. The sock and Kerry are looking great.

  5. Sherilan says:

I remember you purchased a number of patterns from Heirloom Knitting last summer. Any of these on the horizon?

I got a gift certificate to B&N so I am watching for your book there. I’ll try to be patient.

  6. Hmm. Instead of “kitty rug,” we use the term “pussy-flop.” Which is admittedly pretty rude-sounding…

  7. Hee hee…my Grace has demonstrated both of those poses many, many times. “Kitty rug” and “splutkitten” (both excellent names) are known as “flumpy” around here.

    That sock looks so cosy!

  8. Can’t wait to see Kerry completed. Quick question: Is there any *good* way to increase in seed stitch? I’m working on an aran now myself that has increases in seed stitch for the beginning of the sleeves. Just wondering if there is a smoother way of doing this than knitting into the front and back loops of the stitch, which is what I’m doing now.

  9. Oh, nice rug pose indeed. I don’t think Chaos can do that pose. Probably needs to take more yoga or something.

  10. Becky in South Bend says:

You all have such cute names for the pose our kitties call, simply, “Road Kill”.

  11. Does Lucy ever play soccer kitty or bowling kitty? If not I’ll send my pumpkin over to teach her.

  12. I just love Kerry. If you ever get tired of wearing her, I can volunteer to come and pick her up. I love my Lendrum but I don’t have that super fast winder, Woolee Winder? Do you think it helps your spinning stay more even?

  13. I don’t know which I love more – your knitting or you sweetums kitty cat. I take pictures of my silly furry guy all the time and of course show them to anyone who gives me 5 seconds to whip my phone out. Now I have a puppy dog and of course, take thousands of pictures of him as well. I love looking at Lucy and your knitting!

  14. Surely stemmed crystal place setting for Miss Lucy!
Will the winner of the book contest get a copy signed by the Author, Miss Lucy and The King of All Remote Controls?

  15. The face may be saying, “Hey B, feed me!” but the tail is saying, “And bring it on a sterling silver tray, in Waterford crystal stemware with my initials monogrammed on it. And puh-leese – would two minutes in the microwave kill you?”

  16. I pre-ordered your book a month ago, I’m hoping against hope I’ll get it early!

Are you doing a book tour for it? Don’t suppose you’re coming down to Charlotte, are you? It’s not that far….

  17. Please tell your publishers to force the local bookstores around the Portland, OR area to order more of your books. I’d been stalking my borders for when they got the shipment. There were other people too. I literally had words with another woman in there, and she grabbed the book and ran. *sigh* A week is too long for Amazon to start shipping. I’m not above flinging myself on the floor and throwing a two year old hissy fit!

  18. We call it “flat cat” position! She’s a beauty, that Lucy. Now I must try the feather and fan sock leg…. only I have two single socks waiting for their (boring) mates with K3,P1 ribbing…..dullsville, but good when you need mindless knitting. I also started a Potomoka=whatever! sock which is quite fun, so I may have 4 individual socks before I get a pair…

  19. Oh, I’m so excited! You’re going to be at Holly Spring & Yarn Lounge, my 2 favorite stores!! If I go into total stalker mode, I could finally make it out to Knitting Sisters, too. Of course, I’m not sure what I’d do with 3 copies of the book…

  20. My cats use language like that, too. It’s shocking the first couple of times, isn’t it?

  21. In the mists of your mind? I’ve been looking in all the wrong places for design inspiration!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. We call that pose “dead cat” or “flat cat.” Seems kinda sick typed out like that. I have a weird family.

  23. Hi,

I spent a few hours this afternoon looking through your archives and I am absolutely amazed at your work. I am in awe and mostly speechless. Thank you for sharing on this blog.

    ps. Lucy is adorable. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. “Kitty Rug” is a “Loaf of Kitty” at our house, and of course, the pretend ‘cutting’ of the loaf into slices, and annoying the (happily resting) kitty…

  25. Yeah – I’m waiting on Amazon for my pre-order. Trying to get all my other “reading material” done so I can focus!

  26. Looking forward to meeting you at the MW&SF. I’m driving down from Toronto and will make a point of stopping by to say hi!

  27. Wendy, I just lurve (as our yarn a go-go friend says) that Kerry sweater. Can’t wait to see the “bathroom shot”. Best wishes and congrats with the book. Gotta go…need to send that e-mail. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. They must learn that Hey B8tch pose in kitty school. Bu does it the same way, WITH the attitiude.

  29. Did a pre-order from Amazon and they seem to think they’ll be shipping shortly. Hope your publisher hasn’t underestimated your fame and fans!

  30. See, it was a good thing you didn’t bring Kerry to KH the other night for me to spirit away because I am a little slow on the finishing. Now, maybe when you’re done…

  31. Pat Hellhake says:

    Hi Wendy,
Just wanted to tell you that I got your book yesterday at Borders in Northern California. Santa Rosa to be exact. Would you believe it was bound upside down and backwards. Oh well, that makes it even more of a collectors item.

Keep up the good work/knitting and give Lucy a pet for me.

  32. Still no book here in Indiana. Bah Humbug. Question: are your alpaca socks really hot (as in warm) to wear, and how do they hold up to wearing and washing. I tried your search for prior posts on it, but couldn’t come up with anything; sorry if this is a repeated question.

  33. Wendy Knits turns into Cat Vocabulary Trade!

We call that position “Flat Cat On The Mat.”

  34. At my house it can’t be ‘kitty rug’ because I have a Schnauzer. I call it ‘speed bump’.

    Congrats on the new book!

  35. just wanted to say that i just got your book today at my local independent bookstore and that it provided to a much needed boost to my otherwise stressful morning (involving a very messy dog bath). i was reading it at an outdoor cafe and the patrons were wondering why i was laughing so hard at a knitting book.

thank you so much for the book!

  36. I am waiting for France to turn up on you book tour page (that and for to get its act together!)

  37. Well I do want a copy of your book, but I think I’ll just buy it, afterall, then you’ll get some royalties and Lucy needs kitty treats, or so she tells me.

  38. Yay! I can’t wait to get my hands on and then devour your book! If I’d known earlier that Borders would already have them out, I’d have dashed on over there. But I ordered one from Amazon. =)

  39. Hi Wendy. I thought that you might like to know that I picked up a copy of your book yesterday morning at Books-A-Million here in the Charleston, SC area. It’s been an interesting read so far. Thanks!

  40. Damnation!!!! The one contest I WANTED to be included in ๐Ÿ™
I’m gone for a few days and I’m chopped liver That’ll teach me!
