My Day in Photos

I slept late!

(Yes, that’s late for me on a weekday.)

Lucy had breakfast:

While I sent a happy birthday email to Margene:

I trimmed my bangs — can you tell?

And I knit a little on Cromarty.

Then I went down to my car.

I obeyed all traffic laws and stopped for all red lights.

My sock-in-progress rode in the passenger seat.

I went to the dentist.

I was praised for my good dental hygiene. ๐Ÿ™‚

I stopped for groceries.

Then back home to Lucy, who was happy to see me!

But I had to go out again. It was so warm I opened the sunroof!

The price of gas in my area:

Ooh! A Doritos truck!

Went to have an eye exam:

(I had Lasik 6 years ago, but as time marches on, my vision has deteriorated a little. Getting old sucks.)

Then back home to Cromarty.

And back to work tomorrow. Cripes, where did the day go?

  1. Like your purse! Hope you had an enjoyable day ‘off’. It’s nice to get those things done and out of the way without rushing from work. Bet Lucy like seeing you more today.

  2. Dude.
The dentist and the optometrist in the same day. You deserve a medal. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Wendy- I swear, time goes faster as you get older.’
Not that your “older”- you know what I mean.

Lucy looks ecstatic to see you- did you buy some cat treats at the store?

  4. Shirley, in PA says:

I love your purse, can we have a close up, please. Congratulations on getting lots done on your day off work. Oh, and I bought gas over the weekend and it was 20 cents a gallon more.

  5. Dang girl, I’d give my eyeteeth ๐Ÿ˜‰ to pay 2.48 a gallon! I just filled up my Taurus, paid OVER $40.00 @ 3.09 a gal and THAT was a bargain in my area… SoCal, SoCal… the land of high gas prices and congested freeways!

The Cromarty and the Lucy are just gorgeous! luv.m.

  6. Christine says:

    Did you eat breakfast?

How about a picture of you knitting on your commute ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. lol….looks like you had a busy day.
Our gas went up here but we are only at $2.39, not to bad but it just had to go up right before I’m getting ready to take a trip. :~)

  8. I love seeing people’s days documented like this! Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hee! That was fun!

So is the current sock in progress behaving? Or has it been listening to that naughty finished sock?

  10. I know I’ll sound totally dumb, but I thought the traffic lights strung over the road were only in the movies. And after conversion, here in Sydney, Australia we’re paying $1.25 a litre for petrol, or $4.73 a gallon!

  11. $2.62 here for the premium stuff. And it’s completely frightening that I was up before you were.

  12. You were a busy little beaver! You’ve inspired me to do a day in photos. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Wow, your gas is so cheap! We’re paying $2.80+ in Seattle…

  14. Ok, no more griping for me when the alarm goes off at 6:50 am.

However, I am still not a morning person.

  15. Oh, the price of gas where I live has hit $3.11 ($3.15 in the more expensive places). That’s for regular unleaded. Sigh…can you send me a couple gallons of unleaded?

  16. $2.48 a gallon!! We’re paying $3.14 up here in Northern California. ๐Ÿ™

  17. Why, yes! That IS a Doritos truck in the gas station.

It just proves the old adage, “Eat Doritos; get gas!”

  18. Gas is 40 cents per gallon more expensive here in western Washington. Nice to have all the maintenance behind you isn’t it. I like to make appointments all in one day so that the maintenance doesn’t eat up two days.

  19. Even with the dentist, it was fun spending the day with you Wendy ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Wendy, this is one of the cutest blog posts that you have ever done, I just love it. And Lucy of course, well, she is just the most adorable kitty!!! Have a nice evening knitting!

  21. Oh no, is that a Giant food store I spot? Oh how I hated the Giant chain when we lived in Maryland. Worst produce year round that I have ever witnessed. And the checkers were sooooooooooooooo slooooooooowwwwwwwwww I would have anxiety attacks.

  22. Patricia says:

    Where do the days go?

Gas price report: $2.53/gal in eastern Washington.

My cat gets suspicious when I get up or go to work late, or come back during the day. She thinks she’s going to the vet and hides. I guess Lucy had no worries about that as she went tothe vet recently!

  23. $2.37 here in NW Ohio. I would have loved to have been off work today… nearly 70 degrees! And my knitting has been neglected by this being the busy time at school – registering for next years’ classes. I’ve been bringing home paperwork every night this week.

  24. Juliette says:

    I don’t envy the weather..but the gas prices…sheesh

Today I paid $3.14. Which is also the date. And Pi.

    -SF area

  25. Marianne says:

I miss hearing your (mis)adventures of the naughty sock(s)! I do hope they are doing ok. Cromarty is gorgeous!

Your day in photos is cute. Our gas here in mid-Michigan, as of a couple of days ago was $2.59 for regular.

  26. The doritos depot is right down my road. Bummer, especially at 8 am when taking the kis to school.
2 Dr. appointments in one day! WOW! Our gas is $3.29…yours is cheap!

  27. Hi Wendy,
Do you think sometime you could email me personally so I can get your email address to write to you sometime.
I have spent alot of time this evening looking at all your knitting again. I just love all of your knitting stuff….can I come and visit you sometime…just kidding…you probably live on the otherside of the country from me who lives in New York….
Hope to hear from you sometime.

  28. Oh by the way…I have made Cromarty years ago. I have to say it is one of my favorite pattern design of Alice Starmore. I do like your choice in yarn alot. Mine is in a darker blue with a tweedy effect to it. Yours looks so crips. What kind of yarn are you using to make yours.
I wonder how many people out there that have a favorite sweater design that they might make again because they really like the design. This is how I feel about Cromarty Sweater Design.

  29. When I first quickly looked at the obeying traffic laws photo, I thought those were socks on a line. I think it’s time I get myself to the eye doctor.

  30. You started your day off with me? Thank you! And you had my birthday off!? Oh my lucky you.

  31. Looks like a bag from the loopy ewe that your sock is in. You started me there and now I’m a groopie too

  32. Hey, I live in Northern Virginia (like Wendy does) and I also hate Giant supermarkets. The real reason the produce is bad is because it’s NOT California. But our gas is cheaper. Hi Lucy!

  33. gas price? what gas price? I don’t own a car and get wherever I need to by public transportation – $2 per trip – and if I only have to go from one end of town to the other, that’s all it costs …

must be something positive to be said about the big apple, eh? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  34. Angeluna says:

Now that was just plain fun! Thanks.

  35. It was fun to follow you through your day and you have the beautiful Lucy to come home to. Your haircut looks really nice.

  36. Wow you had a full day that is for sure. Glad that you got a clean bill of health at the dentist.

  37. That was a fun post.

    Thanks for sharing.

  38. If you enjoy reading about historical knitting techniques (1800’s) and sock knitting in particular, you may find The Encyclopedia of Needlework by Therese de Dillmont a worthwhile read. I found it yesturday online at copyright-expired ebooks). She takes sock knitting to a whole different plain. ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. have you ever made socks for Lucy?

  39. Loved the photo commentary! I hope you had a great day off. ๐Ÿ™‚

  40. Busy day! I love your purse too. Very nice.

  41. Hilary McDaniel says:

Do you tote your socks in progress around in a clear baggie? I like the handbag. Are you in a condo? Your garage looks like a concrete parking facility. Just curious. I always thought you lived outside DC in the burbs. Love reading your adventures. Would love to see more of your knitting video. I’m still trying to figure out how you knit. It seems quite different than I’ve ever encountered.

  42. I enjoyed your day vicariously. Sometimes it is nice to have a break in your normal schedule even if it is to go to the dentist! Like others have said…your gas is cheap! $3.10 here in California’s capitol! (And the oil is refined 100 miles from us!)

  43. Hey! I know where that gym is!!!! It’s so tempting to go the Maggie Moo’s for ice-cream isn’t it? And the food at the Atlantis restaurant is yummy too!

  44. $2.48 for gas!?! I’m jealous! Sounds like a great day. And how nice to have someone happy to see you when you walk in the door!

  45. Oh my, I guess I vaguely knew you lived near my old haunts, but this post hit home. I used to live in your neighborhood. I recognized all the places in your photos, even the dentist office. I sold my condo in Parkfairfax last year and moved to Holland. I miss NOVA so much, even these everyday places.

  46. Kewl.
We have a lovely weekend March 9-10th, which was good as my brother was visiting from England…BUT, now it’s pouring w/ Rain in Israel…oh well, rain can’t last too long it is Israel after all.
Loved the concept of a day in photos. What is it about you 2nd of Jan capricorns that you love Doritos ? my husbands loves Doritos. You two share a birthday. When ever my brother comes from England I have him bring Ed a Cool Ranch falvored bag, we can’t get that flavor here.

  47. Let us have no more complaints about petrol prices. In my fairly typical corner of England we’re currently at 87p per litre, which is about ยฃ3.29 per US gallon, about $6.30. It hit 97p a litre last month…
    Go Cromarty!

  48. Hey! That’s my Giant! Hey! I used to get my hair cut at that salon!

  49. Oooo, a Doritos truck… I had laser eye surgery 3 years ago, one of the best things I’ve ever done!

    Cromarty is looking great!

  50. sleeping in for my husband is 430. he has to be at work at 6, and he hates to rush, so he usually gets up at 330. he’ll drink a pot of coffee, and then get ready, then, afterward, he sits and watches the news until time to go.

and i always hated when days off got away from me like that.

  51. Well, hey, dentist & eye doctor…at least there wasn’t the lady doctor visit! (I know your photos would have been tasteful.) That’s still a lot in one day, and whoa-nelly on getting up before 8 on a day off! (I need a day off.)

  52. I love your bangs! What a nice haircut…I’m surprised Lucy wasn’t totally confused by your mid-day visit. When I run home at lunch it throws my gals off completely!

  53. It looks like a great day!

  54. Ooh. Ooh. I recognize the Sunoco and the shopping center with the eye doctor. I live near there….

  55. I love it when fluffy kitties show their tummies. Gas in 2.48 in Kansas City. I like your traveling sock bag. Might have to get one like that. You have beutiful hair. And thanks for the explanation of pooling—I felt a little out of it there for a minute. I LOVE pooling!

  56. You had yesterday off!!!! YOUUUU DOOOOGGG!

It was so gorgeous – – lucky, lucky you.

    Loved your blog today.

  57. Love it. ‘Oh, a Doritos truck!’ That is so something I would say.

  58. I would say I’m jealous but….eye doc and dentist….well…..I’m NOT hahahahahaha!!! I admire your courage to even show up at the dentist’s!

About your day – I hope you had to at least wait a while in one of those waiting rooms, so you could have some knitting time!!

I’m on ‘light-duty’ today – my left hand is numb from knitting so I’ve shut my door and I’m not typing today….shhhhhhhhh…….don’t tell….

  59. you southerners are soooo lucky. up here in frozen northern Canada,(-20c this morn) we’re paying $1.02 A LITER. times that by 4.54, you get $4.63 a gallon!!
ps. my 1st pair of socks was your great toe-up pattern,,thanks

  60. Dentist and eye appointments? Waste of a perfectly good day off, if you ask me! Of course, you could be going to see your tax preparer, like I did today. I’d rather have a root canal.

  61. Cromarty is so lovely. Now that I have the book, I can really think about making it. Are you modifying the neck at all? It seems like an odd shape in the book. But those cables, mmm!

  62. Now that’s a busy day! Did you stalk the Doritos truck and ask for samples? LOL! Yum!
