My current work in progress:

Seaforth designed by Alice Starmore, knit in British Breeds 5-ply Guernsey Wool on US 3 needles.

Is that a Leprechaun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

After yesterday’s post, several of you mentioned my purse. Here it is, in all its glory.

It’s an Isabella Fiore purse and I love it. Truly. Madly. Deeply. The style is the “Knight Terry Frame” in brown.

And eagle-eye Allison noticed that my sock-in-progress was sitting in a little clear tote bag from The Loopy Ewe.

Good eye, Allison!

That bag is a perfect size for a sock-in-progress, plus a pattern and a couple of notions. For commuting, though, I usually take a larger tote bag because I always have other “stuff” to schlep.

In the Alert the Media Category

I finished the second sleeve of Cromarty! I finished the second sleeve of Cromarty!

Yesterday I took time out from knitting to sew the first sleeve in, so I’ll be sewing sleevo numero dos in tonight. Then starting on the neckband, which will not take too long. Cromarty will be completed tomorrow evening.

In celebration of this, I have something plummy to give away:

A lovely hardcover copy of The Celtic Collection by Alice Starmore, the book that contains the pattern for Cromarty. Reader Shirley in PA kindly sent it to me to offer up as a contest prize.

Wanna win it? Send an email to blogcontestATcomcastDOTnet before noon Eastern time on Sunday March 18, and I’ll use the ubiquitous random number generator to pick a lucky recipient. As usual, anyone with a mailing address on Planet Earth is welcome to enter the drawing.

And Now For Something Completely Different

Here is a music video that tells a lovely little story. With knitting content!

And I know the “secret” of how the scarf was made. But I’m not telling. Hee hee!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Well, there must be a “secret” as to how that scarf was made. It certainly was not made by that guy in the video. At the rate he was knitting, a scarf that long would take approximately 200 years to knit!

  2. I know I not the “hippest” but just don’t get the video. Nice to see a gentleman knitting though. Now where can I get me a little green man?

  3. I’m sure that it’s not as long as they imply; it looks like simple garter stitch to me. I’m obviously missing some key element – the “secret” is safe with me!!! LOL

  4. More importantly, who’s the band?
I’m not sure I get the message, but I like the song!

  5. Lucy looks kinda disgusted about something. Did you brush her today perhaps? I don’t know what the secret is, but I was sad to see the scarf bedraggled through the lake.

  6. Ooooh, I love Isabella Fiore!! My little happy flower-fob keychain is Isabella. Her bags are gorgeous, but I’ve never been able to decide which one I want. (Always keeping an eye on the Neiman’s sales tables!)

Is that the Loopie Groupie tote? I just got mine yesterday! ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. I’ve enjoyed watching Cromarty grow. Congrats on being so near the end — particularly with a chilly sweater weekend practically upon us!

  8. Interesting video. I’m more interested in your contest, though!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait to see Cromarty all put together.

  9. If you liked that video, you’d probably like this one as well:

  10. I just sent my email to try and win the book!
But it’s okay, I guess, if I don’t get it.
Just don’t change! I am looking so forward to seeing Cromarty finished. It is such a beautiful sweater! Our temperatures are dropping this week-end too.
It would be a good one to finish and wear.
    Please pass on your tenacity.
I want to knit like you do! Reading your blog encourages me to keep trying!

  11. Lucy has such hauteur in her expression I can only guess she’s saying “I told Mommy the secret, however I will NOT tell you!”

Cromarty is beautiful – I sit here in awe each night ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Hi Wendy!
Cute video – who is the band? Good song and my favorite length for a scarf!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Scarf? I love the mitts!!! Cromarty is gorgeous, that color should be terrific on you

  14. I noticed your lil sock sacthel right away cause I have the very same one as my go to bag for “waiting” knitting. I have the medium and large sizes for all my other knitting…I know, tote bag challenged AND absolutely no trace of the spinning gene whatsoever. Do I have to hand in my Knitter’s Secret Decoder Ring? ๐Ÿ™‚

    Loved the vid, so sweet!
I’m watching The Big Tease this weekend! Have you seen Saving Grace too? Prepare to laugh your heiney off!

  15. Ooooo Cromarty is soooo close. I am excited to see the finished product.

Cute video. Maybe the scarf was knit by you????

    Have a Great Weekend.

  16. That handbag is fabulous! I say that like Stacy London of “What not to Wear” fame. Seriously, I covet it. I’m going to have to go to Confession now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cute video. Was the scarf computer generated? Maybe it’s just me, but the actual knitting part looked a little off. Although since I knit so differently that could just be my perspective.

Yay on finishing the second sleeve. The worst is over and the best is near.

  17. I loved that little video. It’s just what all knitters do when they create something for their loved ones: try to maintain the connection. Knitting is so personal, and so close to the skin. Every stitch runs through my hands and then sits close to the body of my loved one.

  18. Oh how do I love cromarty
    let me count the ways
    I love cromarty enough to
    enter this contest and try
to win the heart of cromarty

  19. Hope there was some Eucalan mixed in when that scarf hit the water!

  20. Cromarty is so beautiful – the design, the colour, everything about it. I am in awe.

Loved the video and music, thanks.

have a great weekend with Lucy!

  21. Is it me or does that first pic of cromarty look like a scud missle plane thingy?

  22. anne marie in philly says:

OMG, that first pix reminds me of the KOARC.

    could be that ear-to-ear grin…

(confidential to wendy – “mature”? who, me? never on your life! LOL)

  23. I like the video – maybe I’m weird but to me the symbolism of the scarf is the closeness of the couple in a relaionship even when they’re apart. And of course the secret of the scarf is (as I always tell my children): Movie Magic. Even better than a magic scarf… I love her little mitts! They do look crochet in the little glimpses you get of them.

    FUN contest prize Wendy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Cromarty is beautiful! Can’t wait to see the fully assembled product.
And the video was fun. Can you tell us who the band/singer is?

  25. Thanks for the video; it is remarkably sweet.

What a gorgeous purse … and that from a woman (me) who for some reason gets a hurly feeling when looking at purses. For whatever reason I am not a purse woman, but that one is a beauty to behold.

  26. Shirley, in PA says:

I love the video, but I don’t completely understand it. Knitting is love, and closeness, and sharing? I also love her gloves, are they knit or crochet?

  27. Wow! Cromarty looks beautiful. I’ve entered as well! I am saving this post as new so I can watch the video later.

  28. Congratulations on (almost) finishing Cromarty! I am most of a sleeve away from finishing my 1st Starmore design, I am so excited- I hope it’s still as exciting when I have finished as many beautiful sweaters as you have…

  29. Man, it must feel GOOD that you indeed had enough yarn to finish cromarty mmmm cromarty. Are you seaming with the Koigu Kersti? If not, what?

Lucy clearly isn’t a plastic chewer the way Matisse and Picasso are…..

  30. Cromarty is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the video, it’s really cute, doesn’t the beginning of any scarf seem to be that long?

  31. Beautiful story. He found her by following the trail of her scarf. Very nice. I love it.

You can’t say the word “secret” and not expect us to HOUND YOU until you spill it!

Curiosity and alla dat (won’t finish the phrase lest Lucy turn around and smack me with a hairball!) HA!

  32. I like that video…I have to say it’s nice to see a woman despondent and the man knitting! But if she had that scarf wet in the pond, wouldn’t it wick the water and make her a sodden mess? LOL

    Cromarty looks delish!

  33. I love Starmore’s Celtic Collection, unfortunately the sweater I really want to make, Rowan no longer makes the yarn for. Any ideas on where to find a color card so I can make substitutions for the color work?

  34. Wendy: I can’t let St. Patrick’s Day pass without a joke.
What do you call an Irishman, with no arms and legs, laying in your backyard?

    Patty O’Stone.

  35. David Wilson says:

The band is the Gena Rowlands Band. Song (and video) are on their upcoming album.

  36. Secret? What secret? You have to tell now – you’ve got us all in suspense and everything!

Cromarty is looking very, very yummy. Can’t wait to see it finished.

  37. Do share the secret of the scarf! Pretty please?

  38. Ah, so the “sweater curse” doesn’t apply to guys knitting . . .

  39. Please tell the secret. I would so tell you if it was driving you crazy!

    Cromarty looks great.

  40. Cromarty is gorgeous. I think I’ll have to spend today organizing knitting so I have projects at the right point. Everything that’s on the needles is at the ‘wrong’ point (need to focus, to count, to seam or other such) and so nothing is progressing, unlike your wonderful work.

  41. I love the fingerless gloves. Keep watch as a knock off may show up in my web store! Grin!

  42. Lucy is likely poised to get after that leprachaun…he really does look a bit on the creepy side!

  43. Cromarty is awesome.

Did anyone else notice that she wrote with her left hand at the beginning of the video, and her right hand toward the end? Maybe she’s ambidexterous, or maybe she’s just confused.

  44. Nagasaki says:

very catchy tune… and there was lots of knitting, looked like a dish rag on the table and lots of stuff on the couch… loved it.

and now I have to check out the gena rowlands band. and if you don{t share the secret with us.. may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your stash….
